User ImageLaelius emerged from the shallow waters near Bateau, shaking himself off to rid his coat of saltwater. Satisfied with his fur being.. eh, partially dried, he looked around, investigating his new surroundings. With a short sigh, Lae' made his way on over to a nearby slab of stone, backing up a bit and crouching before leaping up onto it. Letting out a soft yawn as he stretched himself out, he flopped down, belly first, onto the sun-warmed surface.

With another sigh, this time a little... confused? sounding, he rested his head down onto his front paws, simply resting in the sun. For now. He'd probably go explore this new place after a nice afternoon nap.

...It was strange, being a little more away from home than usual.

Aelin lay gracefully on a stone, her front legs crossed at the ankle as she dried off in the sun after a long swim. She didn't have gills, but the Water Elemental's finned ears and life in the water had given her advantages over other foxes in that department. She was enjoying the peace and silence...until splashing alerted her to another's presence. The vixen heaved a small, tired sigh and cast her eyes in the direction of the noise. A younger male with a very patterned coat had emerged out of the water and was now sunning himself too. Charming.

She considered ignoring him, but Aelin had talked to few after her old tribe had disbanded. If nothing else, she wanted to see if this male knew any news about their world. She had been out of the loop for too long.

"You, down there," she called out, her voice soft like a gentle stream but as demanding as the hard waves eroding the shore. "What is your name?"

Eyes half-lidded, Laelius peeked one open at the sound of another's voice. A very feminine sounding voice. "Mm?" Looking in Aelin's direction, he gave a blink of surprise. Oh! He hadn't even noticed her. How.. rude? Yes, that was rude of him. Hm. That wouldn't do. "My name is Laelius." The male replied, raising his head and sitting up properly, in order to be a bit more polite. "Ah, some people find it easier to call me Lae, however." He nodded his head just a tad, giving a slow wag of his tail in greeting. Adding onto that, Laelius gave a lazy smile. "You can call me that if you'd like, miss."

Laelius then tilted his head, curiously looking her over. Why, she had fins! How.. neat? Curious? Fascinating? Well, finds were definitely out of the ordinary, that was sure. Then, realizing that he might have intruded upon her napping or simply lounging, he gave another smile, sheepish this time. "My apologies for just... popping up out of nowhere."

He then lowered his head back down, crossing his front paws and plopping it down on top of them, lounging just a little. "Did I.. disturb you? I can make my way to another spot if you'd like."

"Good afternoon, Laelius," she greeted, not really meaning it but minding her manners. This young male meant little to her, the same way an unfortunate creature being dragged under a current meant little the ocean. He was just a means to an end. "My name is Aelin."

She noticed him eyeing her fins but paid it no heed; she had been stared at since the day she was born. The Elemental stood and easily descended won to a rock closer him, although still far enough away that she could leave with ease if he turned out useless and as dumb as a post.

"You may stay," the finned vixen murmured. "Tell me, Laelius. Do you know any news about the happenings of our kind? I have seen few in severla years now, I find myself behind on the times, you might say."

"Aelin?" Oh. That.. was a pretty name. Very pretty. "It's a pleasure." Laelius tore his eyes away from her fins, finally, seeing as that was.. well, staring was rude. Adjusting his chin to make himself a bit more comfortable, the male gave a slow wag of his tail. "Alright then."

When she asked him about the news, it caught him.. it caught him a bit off guard. Did she really not know that much about their kind? "Well.. Okay, let's see.." Was it possible not to know what was going on, with all the tribes and clans and such? How curious. "I've heard that Kousetsu - up north, y'know? - was hit by a pretty bad snowstorm or two. Last I remember, they lost quite a few members." His brows furrowed as he tried to think of other major events, tail giving a light thump against the stone he was laying upon. "I think Bamboo, that tribe in the midst of.. uh, well, a lot of bamboo, was dwindling down and.. possibly disbanding? Not too sure about them, really, since I come from Bateau."

Then, all of a sudden, he thought of something. "Do you happen to be in a tribe, Aelin?" Maybe that was why she was so.. out of the loop? Maybe, if she was in a tribe, it had been a secluded one or.. something. Something like that, perhaps.

Aelin considered this news Laelius gave her. "So many of the old tribes..." she mused, although more to herself. Her tribe was already gone, and now another was on the brink and another was badly injured. Could the Modeities be up to something?

Well, she was no Elder. She couldn't fix such matters; Aelin focused her attention back on Laelius when he spoke to her.

"You are a member of Bateau? I have never been." She had concidered visiting the water-oriented tribe before, but hadn't been keen on seeing other tribes since hers had fallen apart. She had worked hard to protect her watery territory, and hadn't appreciated being taken away from it. Besides, from what she had heard of the Bateau Elder, she would have to bend her will to another, and Aelin was not yet ready for such things.

He asked her if she belonged to a tribe, and Aelin's fins twitched slightly. "No," she said quietly. "I did once, a very long time ago. Elementum Gens, it was called. It housed all of the Elementals, the embodiments of the elements." She shrugged lightly. "We disbanded years ago, and I have been on my own since." Perhaps for the better, part of her reasoned; they had never functioned cohesively.

Laelius gave a nod when she asked if he was a member of Bateau, giving one last wag of his tail before curling it around himself, setting the fluffed tip by his face - a flick or two of it an easy way to entertain himself absently. When Aelin mentioned that, yes, she had been in a tribe, his ears perked. "Elementum Gens.." Why did that sound so familiar to him? Had he heard of this tribe before?.. Hm. If he had, it must have just been little comments or quick little tidbits from foxes passing by Bateau. "I.. think I may have heard of it? 'M not so certain, however."

His smile lessened just a little as he realized that she had said disbanded. Disbanded. What on earth were you supposed to say to someone from a disbanded tribe? Sorry? Maybe it wasn't meant to be? I'm sorry that happened? Hm... "Seems like a lot of tribes are disbanding nowadays." Well, that was.. eh.

Lae' looked over her once again, this time taking note that Aelin's hair and tail appeared to.. be like water. Like, actual water. Interesting. "Do you happen to get.. lonely sometimes? Being out by yourself?" Watching that unusual hair and tail of hers - along with those fins - for a moment, he let out a soft hum under his breath. "I imagine it can get quite.. boring?"
