Dragonets and their newly bonded for the first several days after Impression, as it helped the pair stay close to one another and form a deep bond. This, Lerath remembered.

Weyrlings were assigned bunkmates. This, Lerath remembered.

And best of all, though they weren’t exactly encouraged to do so, hatchlings were small enough to wander most anywhere in the weyr. This, Lerath especially remembered.

It had been some time since he had left the weyrling barracks to trot to the healer’s area to make His see to a wound he’d received at the hatching, or accompanied His to the dining hall, but he still remembered the layout of the rooms when he flew overhead. And, more importantly, he remembered where many of his clutchmates and their bonded had spent their time out of the hustle and bustle of the weyr. It was late evening when Lerath’s bonded, not being able to sleep, went to the kitchens to distract his insomnia with food, and, being so distracted, didn’t think to question his dragon.

Lerath, wings raised from his body and twitching eagerly, walked some distance from his weyr before crouching, great muscles coiling, and leaping toward the newly shining stars. He flew at a medium height over the weyr, circling toward the weyrlings barracks. His midnight-colored wings and pastel underbelly made him look like a pale eel sliding through the sky from the ground. As he flew he kept his eye cocked, seeking out either the color or clumsy movements of the new hatchlings.

Lina and Galith were up to their old haunt, well, Lina's old haunt, Galith's preferred activity. They were seated on the ground, leaning up against each other, staying in their preferred constant physical contact. They were skygazing, Lina not worrying about tracking the comet for the time being until Galith was a bit older and would be able to take her to some better vantage points. Luckily for her, Galith seemed to prefer being awake at night just as she did, and even better, Galith didn't seem to find staring up at the sky all night boring at all. If anything, it seemed to be an activity the young green rather enjoyed, and Lina couldn't be happier with her partner.

She was rather relaxed at the moment, her hair that was normally kept tied back loose and hanging down slightly into her face, though not obscuring the view through her telescope. She was in loose, comfortable clothing, something she didn't exactly anticipate being caught out and about in. Luckily it was much warmer here than in Ruatha, and she was able to wear things like this outside.

Lina frowned, taking her telescope from her eye and glancing with her naked eye at the sky, then replaced her telescope, seeming confused. What is it? Galith asked, sensing Lina's confusion. Oh, I just swear something blotted out all the stars for a moment Lina mumbled. Galith seemed amused. There is a dragon circling above she added to her befuddled rider, shedding some light on the situation. Oh. Well that would explain it she added, returning to her stargazing with no further thought about the dragon circling above them.

The dragon circling overhead did so in a casual way. Lerath did not need to stay very close to the pair to speak to the mind of the little green after he’d spotted her. He arced away, slowly turning as if he meant to pass them by at a wider girth the next time. I am Lerath, he proclaimed to her, as if he were not deliberately intruding on their privacy, but simply exchanging pleasantries with the young dragon in passing. What are you and yours doing out so late? I did not quite think I would find anyone out so late.

Lerath? inquired his rider. It only took the one word to ask many things. Lerath wished he possessed that quality sometimes, that he could only speak a word and be given all the answers he desired. As it was, by the time he had answers to his first question he’d always though of a dozen more and it was exhausting to keep track of them.

I found one of the hatchlings, he answered with pleasure. I do not know why they are sitting out in the night air though.

V’al said nothing in reply, but somewhere across the weyr there was a sigh and the sound of a man scarfing down a sweetroll because he knew he would be needed elsewhere soon.

Lina was somewhat distracted, as she experienced something she hadn't quite put a finger on yet. Galith seemed almost distant for a moment, but then she was right back in her mind where she should be. Before she could even ask, Galith reported, so to speak. Blue Lerath wants to know what we're doing out so late Galith said, a touch of very detached amusement in her tone. They weren't out late - this was normal for Lina, at least, and Galith was finding it quite suitable. The night time was quiet, and quiet was what Galith liked best.

Lina took the telescope down from her eye, trying to find the star-blocking shape of the blue above, and failing. She hoped she'd get better at spotting dragons in the air eventually, the more familiar she got with them. Well, tell him what we're up to, then she replied, almost annoyed that they were being spied on, so to speak. She knew they had a curfew, but they were right outside the barracks. It's not like they were out wandering about. And, thankfully, Galith hadn't said anything about the blue's rider. So, they probably weren't in too much trouble.

We are gazing at the stars. And you're blocking our view she added with a touch of complaint, sounding rather petulant.

Oh, Lerath answered, his tone half-apologetic. However, the blue was too curious about the star-gazing pair to consider that he might have been less than welcome for simply blocking the view of the night sky. Dipping lower as he entered his returning arc to the pair, he backwinged just short of the ground and landed at a perfect halt a short distance from Lina and her green. From there, he approached at a rather slow walk that was further impaired by the blue’s notable way of favoring one of his forelegs. It was difficult to see in the darkness of the night, but scarring from old threadscore laced his leg and foot, making the skin tight and unwilling to flex with walking, though it at least wasn’t painful. Stopping his slow hobble a short distance away, Lerath rumbled a respectful greeting to the pair while his eyes glittered intently. Now I will not block the view, he noted with satisfaction. Why are you watching the stars? Is there something interesting? he questioned, glancing skyward.

Mine knows how they move, and what it means. I just like the quiet Galith supplied, not much of a talker, but not quite knowing how to explain all that Lina knew about the stars. She understood some of it, that stars were actually planets and that she could find amusing patterns in them, but beyond that, she was no expert.

Lina found herself slightly alarmed when the blue landed. Were they in trouble? Despite having Impressed, she still wasn't used to full-sized dragons yet, and found herself a bit intimidated, though the blue didn't seem to bother Galith in the least. Something seemed off about his gait, but Lina couldn't quite put her finger on it, so she just glanced at him politely and smiled hesitantly at his rumbling greeting. Evening she offered, not quite sure what to make of the blue. She wasn't the most socially adept person, much less with someone else's dragon, especially when said person wasn't even here to pull any clues from. Galith radiated a tiny bit of approval that the blue was no longer blocking their view, her form of thanks, something she did quite often - sending emotions instead of actual words. It was a tad quirky, but Lina found it often was more direct and easier to understand. She couldn't think of anything to say to the blue, but she didn't want to ignore him, either. She twisted her head around a bit, looking for one particular star. Ah, there it is!

That's Rigel, my lucky star the girl offered, pointing over her shoulder a bit to the brighter star that stood out from its fellows a bit. She made it seem like she was telling Galith, but of course Galith already knew. She said it out loud for Lerath's benefit, not really knowing what else to say.

Lerath’s wings had tucked against his sides when he’d stopped by the pair, but now they rustled in excitement and he came closer to the pair to get a better angle and see which one the young woman was pointing at. I did not notice that they moved, he answered. For a moment he was silent as he tried to understand a pattern in the sky overhead, but it was hopeless. Rigel was distinct to him once he had made it out, but the rest of the sky was awash in lights and he wondered if he would ever be able to distinguish the meaning. Yours must have looked at them a great deal to remember them all, he said, clearly impressed. Do they all have names? Oh, and what are your names – I should have asked that first.

Just then a second intruder came upon the odd group. His dark, unruly hair had been chopped short in a shaggy sort of style, and hung frayed about his face, which looked grim and perhaps a bit perturbed. He was dressed casually for the evening in a plain tunic and thin hide gloves (despite the hot summer air), but something about his stride suggested him to be a rider. “He probably shouldn’t have asked you anything at all,” he said factually as he approached. “Sorry if he’s interrupted your evening.” V’al actually didn’t sound any sorrier than his dragon had. Lerath didn’t seem very abashed either. The dragon was still eyeing the sky curiously.

Lina startled and rose swiftly to her feet, not that it gave her much height. When she saw the rider, she relaxed a bit. He seemed a little younger than she was, possibly. Still, this little outing had gotten a bit crowded, and she seemed to get a little anxious, rubbing her hands on her pants and looking over at Galith, who seemed to be looking the newcomer over in her typical nature.

I am Galith, and Mine is called Lina Galith informed Lerath, and sent along with that a tone of question - who were they?

He hasn't been any trouble... Lina offered, not quite sure how to proceed. She was rather awkward socially, and this guy was rather intimidating to her, at least at the moment. Lerath simply looked like he was curious, but his rider was nothing but a big question mark to Lina.
