For once, she had nothing to do.

It was a strange feeling, considering the feline was usually up to her neck in paperwork. Today, however, Riyo woke up to a bare desk... And it had stayed that way. Now, into the evening, she found herself with no drive to play the violin or patience to read a book.

There was a pleasant view of the campus from her window, but it defeated half the purpose of why she had enrolled in the first place...

To learn how to deal with people. She knew it. Jericho had reminded her of it...

So instead of her usual view behind the safety of the glass, Riyo had a seat just outside on a rigid bench. It wasn't comfortable, but neither was putting herself out in the open for any a*****e to come up and start asking her questions... She was a better person for doing it though... Right?

Well, no. Probably not. No matter who came up to her, the cat demon would probably still tell them to get lost, but she was certainly learning more ways to do it!

Sighing at the sight of different boils and ghouls passing, Riyo pondered what went through their minds. Where were they going? Who were they meeting? How would the day end for them? A great way to feed the imagination she usually neglected...

And since it was bound to happen, just who the hell would be bothering her today?

Cat had planned to take today off. Really, honestly and truly, he had planned to take the day for himself to watch and listen as students ambled past, hidden away on a tree branch, without any ribbons wound around himself to show he was there at all. But the bench, underneath his tree?

Well, he never had been able to ignore someone who wilfully came and sat within his range.

Especially a ghoul.

Especially a ghoul with a black tail and cat ears.

Huuu hu hu~

A white crescent cracked into existence up on the tree branch, followed closely by two white orbs blinking on as eyes and swivelling down to focus, ever so intently, on this fascinating new person. This cat-ghoul.

"Lovely day out, isn't it~?" He was still invisible, save for his eyes and Smile, but that was how he liked these sorts of meetings to go. It was almost storybook perfect.

Though the question still hadn't been answered, she hadn't expected

Riyo's ears immediately stood to attention as an unidentified voice in close proximity spoke out. That had come from above, hadn't it?!

Head jerking up, it took the ghoul a moment to spot the two white eyes and crescent smile among the foliage. What the...

Her own eyes narrowed on the mostly invisible observer, obviously unimpressed by the sudden disturbance. "Yes, as lovely as being creeped upon by three disjointed shapes in a tree." The sarcasm practically seethed out of her mouth as she readjusted herself on the bench to keep an eye on the figure. Never let someone out of your site... If you can help it.

"My, yes," Cat's grin only widened.

"What brings such a fine lady to such a lonely bench~?" He responded coolly, blinking his eyes at her with no intention of revealing himself completely just yet.

What luck, what chance! Of all the times he had rested up on a perfectly-positioned branch, of all the times he had been completely invisible, he now had this opportunity. He hoped, of course, she wouldn't just run for her life. Quickly he formulated a plan for such an occasion, without so much as a flicker on his expression, and was unable to contain a distant chuckle at the very thought.

Ugh. What the hell was he getting at? Fine lady... Whatever...

"Oh, I just thought I'd give the lonely bench company. It's not because I like the aspect of an empty bench or a peaceful evening." She spoke in a matter-of-fact tone, though it was obviously sarcasm again. "So... Are you just going to sit up there and stare at me while making small talk... Or what?" At the very least, he was up there and she was down here. There was a nice distance inbetween them. Maybe she could deal with this... It didn't have to be long. Maybe a couple of hours or so and Riyo could pat herself on the back for increasing her tolerance level.

The chuckle that hit her ears caused the feline to raise an eyebrow, her slender black tail twitching behind her. What was he up to?
PostPosted: Mon Aug 08, 2011 5:09 pm

And there it was. Sooner then expected, yes, but no less welcome.

His signal to make his proper appearance.

The glowing orbs blinked. The grin widened. Both dropped suddenly from the branch. The shadows nearby perked a little.

All at once, the shadows shot towards the falling shapes of light, whipping about and wrapping up every which way until they formed a complete and well-practiced silhouette to encompass the abstract facial features. Just in time for him to land neatly beside her.

"Or what, indeed,"

He smirked, leaning back on the tree branch, the very picture of self-confidence. "Small talk, however, is just as important as big talk. It hopes, one day, to grow nice and tall after all."

As the grin widened, Riyo's expression became more suspicious. She knew that grin. He was about to do something.

Though she would never have guessed just what.

As the shapes fell from the branch, Riyo's immediate response was to recoil onto her side of the bench as much as possible, wide eyes watching as the shadows formed a humanoid shape.

After a few moments of staring at the newly formed figure, the feline's expression changed to unimpressed (even if she kinda was).

"I'll bet you've practiced that a lot." Riyo wasn't about to feed what she assumed was a boil craving attention.

Reaching back for her now bristled out tail, the ghoul kept as much of a distance as she could between her and the boil. "Mm. You're one of those people." A smirk ran across her own face as she tried to comb down the fur with her claws. "A metaphor here. Some personification there, toss in a simile or two and there's everything you're capable of saying."

Satisfied now that her tail was smooth again, she released it. The feline's now free arm rested on the back of the bench, propping her head up in a smug fashion. Battle confidence with confidence, after all. "So, small talk is like a child, is it? Or is it a tadpole? Or could it be more like a fashion trend that's only important because everyone else thinks it is?" Riyo certainly wasn't a fan. She wasn't a fan of talking to people at all, actually.

Cat was impressed. He hadn't expected such a smart response, and while he could see that he had frazzled her enough to set her fur on end with his appearing act, it was obvious he would have to do better with the verbal show.

"Oh, come now," He pretended to scold her.

"So quick to judge. Just what are you hiding in that pretty head of yours, that you jump on assumptions of another so quickly~?" His expression and stance didn't change in the slightest -ever smiling and staring- but his voice was rich with some sort of admiration. She was smart, he'd picked up on that much.

"Perhaps a flower in bloom, from bud to petals, before it withers into incessantly dull talk of Great Importance. Dancing the fine line between adulthood and old age? The small and innocent versus the big and corrupt." He added, unable to resist the string of metaphors she had slung at him.

"Flattery will get you nowhere." Riyo immediately pointed out, his 'pretty' and 'fine' comments grating on her. He was like Deacon, only with a brain. "And I'm not hiding anything." Now there was a lie the size of their campus. She hid MANY things, especially her history. "I simply don't care for people." At least that was the truth.

Oh great. More metaphors. As the boil continued to spew comparisons to an intangible idea, the feline rolled her eyes. "Or, you could realize it's all semantics and that anything can be compared to anything else with the right words." Some were, however, more appropriate for the occasions they were used, but she wouldn't mention that. "I take it you dislike talk of serious matters then. More concerned with sitting up in a tree and secretly watching the people that pass by?" For Riyo, serious talk was an important matter. Not a working day went by that lacked discussion of an important factor in their company. It was something the demon was accustomed to, though she couldn't say it was enjoyable either. It was... Necessary.

It figured a few moments after she mentioned watching people pass by that a couple passed in the distance, causing those crimson orbs to stray from her new acquaintance and follow the two students on route to wherever their destination might be. Her smirk faded as she wondered where they were heading, long thin tail swaying soundlessly behind her.

Cat responded with a larger smirk as she spoke, still unmoving aside from a slight sway in his shadowy tail. She was complicated, he could tell, but no protest could get him to diverge from being as flattering as he so pleased. Certainly he liked it if a ghoul blushed and giggled herself silly at his words, but it made no difference if it made her cranky either.

Soon enough he would worm some more details out of her, but she made it clear in every way that this would not be easy.

"That is the entire fun of it," He replied brightly as she seemed to become annoyed with his metaphorical banter, "Seriousness is like- oh, pardon me~!" He stopped himself with a tittering chuckle, as he almost dived into further comparisons.

"Let us just say, shall we, that high places are favourable for a Cat. Observing everyone as they go by, and pouncing when they catch your eye. Surely you know this~?" He eyed her ears and tail pointedly, daring her to retort as she herself was distracted by her own curiosity.

Ah, yes. Fun. An almost alien concept for her anymore. Her idea of fun was the majority's idea of work. "Seriousness is a necessity. Otherwise you end up as some joker that everybody walks over." Which was why she stood tall and kept a neutral, if not somewhat intimidating demeanor at all times. When people pushed her, she pushed back. When they tried to make a fool of her, she proved them wrong (... Sometimes).

The chuckle managed to receive a glare from her, attention pulled away from the other students blissfully unaware of being watched. Though, she was angry overall at how calm and pleased he seemed to be with how annoyed she was. What was with every cat boil she came across trying to push her buttons? "I don't pounce." She couldn't deny that she did observe, however. Leaning back into the bench, the cat demon folded her arms across her chest. "I have no desire to interfere with the lives of others, and I wish most people would offer me the same courtesy."

Now how could she get this jerk to leave her alone? "Though, I bet you couldn't survive without some poor sucker to bother, could you? That's the difference between an independent cat and a codependent cat. I won't die if someone doesn't feed me attention."

"Nobody walks all over the joker~" Cat corrected when she was done talking, with a wag of one finger. "Indeed, the opposite."

Without warning, the ribbons that formed him shot back into the shadows, tearing his visage into literal shreds. There was a beat, a rush of cold air, and equally as suddenly the shadows whipped back up to form the boil once more. This time he appeared seated beside her, reclined comfortably with one leg crossed over the other, tail swaying happily. "Independent, codependent, omnipresent, incandescent- oh, I do apologize, how rude of me~"

He tittered cheerfully once more, utterly delighted at her willingness to react badly to his teasing. "But I do I assure you, being alone is just no fun at all. It makes one quite-" He resisted saying 'mad', "-dull. Don't you agree? Of course you do, look at you."

Far from insulted, he practically craved more of her snappy observational anger. More, more!

Yeah. Riyo had to wonder how true his statement was...

Though, wondering was set aside when the boil disappeared and immediately reappeared right next to her. The feline jumped only slightly, and for seconds her red eyes widened before she once again regained her composure and scooted as close to the end of the bench as she dared.

He was doing it on purpose. She knew he was doing it on purpose. What was so fascinating about making her angry? Was she really that interesting?

... Apparently not. "Dull?" Riyo repeated, her eye giving a bit of a twitch. He thought she was dull? "There's nothing wrong with the way I look." Though she couldn't help but look down at herself to make sure. Yes, this was in good taste. She was well clothed, and her fashion sense, in her opinion, was impeccable.

But... Dull? "If I'm so dull, then why are you interested?" By this time, she was borderline pissed off. It may have been what he wanted, but she couldn't hide it. Riyo was an angry person, after all...

"Oh, mystery of mysteries~" He crooned, his voice dripping with contentment. For effect, he stretched a little, using the motion to inch closer to the fuming ghoul. Was he capable, he might have even purred.

Oh, he saw her check herself, even as she dismissed his statement. And oh how it made him tingle with glee. He had her on that fine little line that he loved so dearly. Between remaining calm or counting to ten, trying to bat away his cheerfully teasing banter and clearly building up the urge to hit him inside of them.

He dearly hoped she would hit him; it was ever so much fun when they did.

(Even more privately, he hoped she wasn't capable of damaging ectoplasm with her Fear. Or worse, any natural skill her race held. That didn't happen often, though)

"Perhaps it is the lure of a young ghoul by herself on a dreary afternoon; eyes that say 'do not bother me' and clothes that say 'I hate you, whoever you are.' Is it not obvious why or how I am entertained?" He positively beamed at her, broad crescent doing nothing to hide the fun he was having.

Riyo knew he was scooting closer. It was something that made her more uncomfortable than his words. There were ghouls who wanted to be close to boils. She was sure he knew that. They would probably find his musings charming, and his strange way of walking swoon-worthy. So why her?

Why she hadn't expected his explanation to be somewhat cryptic was beyond the feline. So, what he was saying is, he bothered her because she didn't want to be bothered?

Hand reaching up towards her head, she rubbed her temples and glanced at him sideways. "Okay, so what you're saying is, you want to disturb me because I look like I don't want to be disturbed?" Jack... What a ******** up thing that was. "What, does this entertain you? Does my frustration towards all things both living and undead tickle your fancy? I'm not some book you can enjoy while waiting for the author to spill a few candy-coated secrets amongst it's pages. Things don't work like that." Riyo grumbled angrily. Riyo didn't like being toyed with. "So you know what? Yes. I am dull. Dull and boring. Nothing interesting about me." Maybe that would take the big, dumb smile off his face.
