He was still getting used to the whole patrolling thing. Staying up late and getting up early wasn't new for him, but it did wear him down rather quickly. There were still a lot of nights where he would rather spend time with his girlfriend watching a movie or even going out to eat, but with the increase in youma around where he lived, it was a little difficult.

It was a quiet night so far, though. The monster that had alerted him to power up and check out the surrounding area had been taken out by someone else, and since he hadn't heard anything on the headset he'd bought for the knights to use, he could only assume that it was a senshi.

He'd hoped to get a glimpse of whoever it was, just in case he'd met them before, but they seemed to have been long gone by the time he arrived on the scene. Now it was just a matter of staying in the shadows and keep an eye out for monsters that might show up to... do whatever it was they did.

It just to happened that Hesperis was patrolling a few blocks away, having stayed a little far from her... place of residence tonight.

She had a lot to think about, really.

The young girl leaped from rooftop to rooftop before she suddenly stopped, eye narrowing ever so slightly. That feeling at the back of her mind...

Youma.

She hurried then, and eventually found the source of what she'd lovingly nicknamed her page sense - it looked like a huge...

A huge...

...

Oh my.

Suddenly, Valhalla's headset would be the recipient of this lovely message.

"Guys ? Anyone around ? Uh, I found a youma. About a few blocks away from the mail on East Street. It's... I think it's a huge skunk. I might need tomato juice."

It was hard to tell if she was making a joke, or flabbergasted.

Valhalla almost jumped out of his skin when he heard the voice from the headset, fumbling with it a little to return the message.

"This is Valhalla. I'm only a couple blocks away, I'll be there soon."

Wait, a skunk?? He really hoped she wasn't serious. And he really hoped it wasn't like a real skunk. Maybe some... monster that looked like a skunk but wouldn't stink like one??

It didn't take him too long to make his way down the street, and he couldn't help but wonder how much more it would cost for him to get GPS included into their phone plan. Even if it was just voice command, it would be a lot easier trying to find out where to go if someone wasn't familiar with every part of the city.

He came to a sudden stop when he rounded the corner of a building, his face twisting into an expression of disgust. He was usually a fan of animals, but when they were giant and fanged and clawed and smelled... Yeah, that's where he drew the line.

Valhalla glanced around for the knight that had called, looking for a boy that perhaps he hadn't met before? The voice sounded young, so it could be either or.

Hesperis was stalking the thing when the answer came back to her, and she nodded, even through the other page certainly couldn't hear that.

Once Valhalla was there, she would be easy enough to find, thanks to the glow. There were blue lines moving in the distance, and they swerved toward him once she'd picked up his aura.

...Oh, it was the one who got them the headsets ! Yeah, she could remember him now. "Thanks for coming ! Im Hesperis, in case you don't remember." There had been a ******** of people at that gathering. She certainly hadn't remembered all of them.

"And sorry for dragging you into this. Im... not looking forward to this." She made a face. Her civilian self might very well wear clothes way past their prime, but that didn't meant she liked to smell nasty.

It was quite easy to notice the glow and it didn't take long for Valhalla to realize that it was that... uh... girl... boy... knight whose gender he wasn't entirely sure of. No matter!

He grimaced at the monster when she commented about it, shaking his head at her. "It's fine. Someone has to get rid of it," he said, although he didn't sound like he was all too thrilled about having to take it down, either.

"Uhh... Got any ideas? Have you seen what it can do yet? Like... does it attack with its teeth or claws or... uh... oder...?" he added cautiously, although he would much prefer not to have anything to do with the tail end of the creature.

Sometime the super-hero business sucked.

This was looking like it would be one of those times, really.

"I've only seen it claw at stuff so far, I've been following it while you were coming." She said. "Haven't seen any civilians so far, so they might have ran off already..." Which was the nice thing. It would be only them.

...And the stinkbomb.

"Well, at any rate, this thing isn't gonna kill itself." Hesperis sighed, then jumped off, summoned her staff, and waited for Valhalla to follow to lead the charge.

Seriously...

Valhalla made another face. "You've been following it? Behind it??" That was a little risky, wasn't it?? Especially if it did decide it wanted to spray them.

"Maybe we should call for more backup?" he suggested rather meekly as she got up to charge it, before sighing to himself and moving forward as well.

"Take the right side, I'll take the left. Let's try to confuse it and I'll distract it while you clobber it," he suggested, all on the basis that the page of Mercury had something to hit it with. On a whim, though, Valhalla paused to pick up two metal trashcan lids, carrying them with him as he raced towards the creature.

"Hey! You!" he shouted at it, before shifting his hold on the lid and threw it like a discus at the youma to get its attention. Okay, now to hopefully keep things running smoothly and oder-free.

"No, no !" She pointed upward. "Over it ! From the roofs !" Seriously... Did she look that stupid ?

Or rather, that willing to smell of skunk for years to come ?

Oh come on. They could dust this thing on their owns ! She nodded, through, and made her way to the right side as instructed, waiting for Valhalla to have the thing's attention before moving to clobber him, aiming to try to break it's leg first.

"The roofs?" he called, catching her comment a little too late. Valhalla glanced up at the roofs of the buildings around them. He made a face at them, not really liking the idea of jumping from building to building. He happened to like his feet on solid ground.

He was distracted though, when the youma let out an angry, high pitched roar when Hesperis attacked its leg. "Watch out!" he called to her as the monster started to collapse, but not before aiming a powerful swipe at her.

Valhalla pulled the compass from his belt, whirling it over his head and bringing it down like some tiny wannabe mace on the head of the skunk, wanting its attention again, holding the other trashcan lid in his hand for a makeshift shield.

"Get to the roofs if you can!" he called on the other side of the youma, hoping the other page was still okay. "I'll keep it down here. Try aiming for the base of its skull."

Kind of brutal, but hopefully they could kill it without causing it pain...? Wait, what the hell was he thinking?? These were monsters!

It had been pretty much evident that the youma would lash back at her - they all did - so she used her staff to block it, through it nicked at the wood, sending tiny bits of it flying.

Somehow no matter what she did to it, it always was whole and pristine the next time she powered up. Strange...

Hesperis frowned at the initial 'get to the roofs', but then she understood what Valhalla was planning - so she did just that. She'd mastered building-climbing pretty early on, if only because it was awesome as s**t - and ended up climbing pretty quickly.

"Try bringing it just a little closer !" She didn't think she could jump and hit from there...

Yeah, that whole climbing thing... he would probably have to take lessons from someone willing and patient enough to show him. He tended to only climb up and down things when necessary. Otherwise he would much rather stay on solid ground, thanks.

"Yeah no problem!" he called up to her, half sarcastic as he swung his compass around to try and get the youma's attention to make it move. Everything was always easier said than done, but he was going to try to get it close enough for her to attack it. He couldn't do much with his compass, or at least he hadn't found many ways to use it other than swing it around, but she had a staff that wasn't all that shabby.

He probably needed to start carrying a bat with him whenever he transformed... Things would be easier that way.

Valhalla took a few lunches forward at the creature, trying to get it to back up against the wall. It let out an angry growl and tried to swipe at him as well, knocking the trashcan lid clean out of his hand. Well, s**t.

"Close enough??" he shouted, a little desperate. He didn't want her hurting herself, but he was doing the best he could down where he was.

Hesperis was keeping close watch of the situation, and was starting to feel a little useless up there. And if anything, the page of Mercury hated feeling useless.

Then Valhalla's makeshift shield was knocked out of his hands, and she was starting to feel a little desperate herself. "That'll do !"

In truth, she had no idea. She'd never tried leaping down on a youma from a two-story building before. But, well, first times for everything, right ?

Hesperis took a few steps back... then ran, adding some speed to her jump before she finally leaped. It helped that she'd done this before - hell, her favorite powered up past times were jumping off buildings and kicking the s**t out of youmas.

She'd never aimed at anything, through, and now she was. She did hit, and from the pained growl the skunk youma let out, it did hurt like hell. She hit the shoulders rather than the neck or head area, but there was definitely sounds of bone cracking, there.

She landed a little wobblingly, and was clawed for her troubles - four claws hitting her arm straight-on and leaving four little trails of ripped cloth and red behind.

"You ********--" Yep, there came the nasty words. She reared back for a punch, hitting the skunk right where the staff had previously done, and the youma howled and feel to the ground, it's right foreleg finally giving in.

"s**t!" Valhalla cursed, letting his usual goody goody self slip in a time of mental and physical stress. "Are you okay??" he called, hurrying over to the page and grabbing onto her shoulders to pull her out of the skunk's way and to temporary safety in the shadow of a nearby building. "Nice punch," he complimented before looking over the gashes in her arm, glancing up every so often to make sure the youma was having difficulty limping their way.

"You've got one mean hit, you know..." he praised again, wishing he was a little less helpless, himself as he reached down to undo the belt around his waist. "This'll only take a moment," he promised, keeping an eye on her to make sure she didn't run off before he was done. "I can't tell if they're deep or not, but just in case..."

Valhalla took hold of her arm and slipped the belt around, a few inches above the cut, wrapping it around a few times before clasping it into place. He didn't think she would bleed out, but the blood loss would slow her down and right now she was the only one who seemed capable of doing anything between the two of them.

"Okay, ready? How about this time you distract and I attack it?" he offered, glancing around for some kind of weapon to use, before picking up one piece in a pile of broken bricks near the building, probably from a previous fight nearby. Ah, that would do...
PostPosted: Fri Aug 05, 2011 10:38 pm

"Im fi-"

Yep, fine. But before she even got to finish her sentence, Valhalla had focused on mothering the holy hell out of her. He was acting like she'd just had her arm ripped off, which was a little silly as far as Hesperis thought, but... Well, he was her teammate, and she didn't want to annoy him, especially after she'd missed the perfect youma-dusting hit like a derp.

"I think they're just scratches... And well, it deserved that." There was pain, of course, but nothing she couldn't bear with. The youma snarled, tried to get up again, but one good whack from Hesperis' staff, courtesy of her free hand, sent it right back down.

She'd been just about to offer her staff - if there was a knight code that they couldn't use each other's weapon, well, she didn't know about it. - when Valhalla settled on his makeshift weapon on choice.

"Hey, ugly." She poked at it. "Get up."

It snarled, slashed it's valid paw at her, but it was easy enough to dodge. She moved away, and the youma limped along to follow her.

Somebody was about to get bricked !

Was there something wrong with him trying to make sure she was okay?? If Valhalla knew that he was fussing too much the he would have backed off and probably moped about not being able to help for a bit before getting back into the action. And then would have moped about it for a while after the youma had been taken out, but Hesperis could have run off and left him moping all on his own, so there wasn't really anything that should hold her back from telling him off.

And he certainly hadn't heard any rule about not using each other's weapons. He didn't want to leave her defenseless, though. That would be a jerk move.

He nodded as she moved to lead the youma into a good position for him. He thought about how it might give his identity away if he did this in front of the wrong person... But the he reminded himself how many pitchers there were in the city and how no one could possibly narrow him down from seeing a fastball using a piece of brick. There would be no spin to peg as anything he did, characteristically.

He waited and backed up until it was about twenty yards away, before winding up and letting the brick fly from his hand. He winced as released, though, feeling the rough edges cut up his palm, but that was all part of the job.

The brick beamed the youma in its good shoulder, another crack, and it let out a roar and stumbled. Eh, that wasn't so bad. With a brick and horrible footing, he was surprised it actually stayed on target.
