School was a rather interesting affair for Merric. Half the girls knew exactly who he was, and constantly followed him, or watched him, or stalked him everywhere he went. The bass player had gotten used to it over the months and years, especially with Alex buffering the worst of the proclamations of love.

These days, even if it was just going to the school for the odd summer school class, was harder. Girls almost fawned over him and his locker (when he bothered to check it) would be spilling with notes. It was rather embarrassing, for the most part.

Today however, as Merric found his way onto the Meadowview campus for some ridiculous reason (he forgot to turn in library books and they just now realized it) and really wished it was going to be a silent day. He didn't have the energy to deal with stalker chicks today.

Target sighted! Odette jumped from her seat in the empty pottery classroom. He was here. Hopefully it was to return those overdue library books. (Hey. It wasn't stalking...Honest.)

The brunette all but ran to the door of the classroom, though then blinked, running back to her cubby, drawing out a four inch tall ceramic bass that she had sculpted...quite a while ago. The glaze on it was just perfect--or so she though. The blue matched his hair almost perfectly, and the green on the details matched her eyes....(Not creepy, not creepy at all.)

Taking a deep breath, Odette slowlly made her way to the library, going inside the book filled room, and heading to the History section, waiting for her pray--erm...For Merric to come in.

It was going to be one of those days.

Merric stood at the counter, having rung the bell four times in the last ten minutes, his face morphing into a familiar scowl of annoyance. The librarian either needed better hearing aids or a louder bell. This was ridiculous; he had a gig in less than three hours, and he had to drive half way across the city in rush hour traffic to get to it from here.

He muttered a string of very fowl words in his deep bassy voice under his breath, impatiently tapping a guitar pick against the stack of four books. He didn't even care if the pick made a hole in the cover; he just wanted to turn the damn books in and move on!

He noted off hand that that's how a lot of his days went these days... huh.

Merric rung the bell again. As loud as he could.

"Oh come on woman..."

Odette watched the male for a few moments, before stepping out of her oh-so-clever hiding spot. She had a book clutched in one hand--Something about the crusades, whatever. The book was of no importance to her at that very moment.

Slowly, she crept to the check out counter, stopping behind Merric, looking around innocently for a moment, before clearing her throat. "Ah, you seem to be having problems...I'm a volunteer library aide...is there something I could do to help you...?"

Oh great. Lie to him about that. ...Maybe he wouldn't know any better...

The guitar pick flew almost across the desk in panic. Yes, the pick flew. Hush. Merric himself jumped at least four feet in the air (okay only like four inches) at the voice. He took a moment to get his heart to stop pounding so horrendously hard in his throat and took a breath. Nothing to be worried about, Merric, nothing at all...

Merric turned his head to look at the owner of the voice who'd TOTALLY SNUCK UP ON HIM startled him. Goldy Locks with green eyes, and a book about the crusades (or at least that's what he thought it said; it was hard to read with her arms over the cover so he could only see "CRU---DES") in her arms. Kay. She looked sorta like he could help him.

"I need the librarian. I have books to return apparently," he said, groping behind him to try to find the dark blue pick with the silver crescent moon on it that had previously gone flying at said Goldy Locks' voice. He was just sorta creeped out by the girl (apparating girl or some nonsense!) and if nothing else, he could make her cry and he could run like hell out of there if it got too much.

His silver eyes scanned the library and he realized just how... alone he was in there.

Not. Good.

Odette blinked, then let out a nervous sounding little laugh. "Um...are you okay, Merric?" She winced as she realized she said his name, then cleared her throat, going behind the library desk, trying to recover her now...blown cover. (Whoops)

Logging into the computer with the real aide's information, (Come on, she was in the library all the time anyway...) Odette pulled up Merric's information.

"I could tell by your books. You're Merric Hollinger, correct?" That's it, Odette, play it cool. Not creepy. Not creepy. For the love of God.
She glanced back to him, smiling. "You owe a dollar and fifteen cents for your overdue books."

That was it! Cool. Not creepy. Her eyes flashed to the hastily wrapped figurine that was laying next to the computer.

...Ohgodwhywasshesuchacompletecreep.

Definatetly not creepy in the slightest.

It didn't bother Merric so much that the girl knew his name (most did), it was more... how she was acting that put him on edge. He gripped the pick in his hand, pointy end sticking out, just in case. Just in case.

He nodded when she checked his name in the database and fished into his pocket for a dollar and fifteen cents and almost flung it at her in panic. His eyes flicked around the desk and do something oddly shaped like a bass wrapped on the desk. He frowned at it, and took a step back from the counter. Eyes flicked back to her and he slowly came to terms with that maybe possibly incredibly likely this was a fangirl.

He took another step back.

Just to be safe.

Ah. He looked worried! Was she being creepy? Ah! Not good! Not good at all!

Odette flashed another smile. "Is that all I can...um help you with today, Merric...?"

No. Don't let him leave...the gift! Give him the gift! But in a smooth, subtle, NOT CREEPY type way.

The brunette took the money, putting it into the cash box slot, then looked at him. "By the way...Before you go, I have something I made for you..."

Smooth, Odette. Very smooth. Oh well. Cat was out of the bag now. ...Clawing and biting and hissing.

The girl picked up the object and held it out to Merric. "I'm not a creep or anything, I swear. I just...Heard your band play at the last dance, and I have to admit. You're pretty good. I'm normally not into that kind of music. I like old stuff. You know...songs from like, Renaissance days and stuff..."

She laughed, rubbing the back of her head. "I sound like such a stalker right now. I am so, so sorry for that."

Definately, one hundred percent fangirl.

Creeper. Such. A creeper.

Merric took the statue with wary eyes and hands (thankful at least it wasn't a minature version of him, though, you never know, the girl could have one in her room. He shuddered to think that.) and unwrapped it. He didn't even know the chick's name an--

Renaissance music? Oh yeah, the chick was a creep above creeps. Who the hell listens to Renaissance music?

Merric was worried about opening the wrapping, but did so anyway. It was a pretty good bass... for being four inches tall and made out of clay. The blue was incredibly familiar to him, though the green wasn't at all. The blue... he ran a hand through his hair and blinked.

It was the exact same color has his hair.

Where the hell did the green come from? It wasn't even a band color, much less one of his favorites. So where did the green come in? Part of his mind screamed incredibly loudly, in a high pitched scared shitless voice, that it was her eyes, the color had come from, and Merric was hoping he could ignore that and it wouldn't be true.

Ohgoditwastruewasn'tit?

"You know... the band colors are dark blue and grey, not green, right? But, uh... thanks....?" he said, tried to keep his cool and not sprint out of the door (after putting the bass back in her hands off course... oh hell just drop it on the ground and run). He inched towards the door.

The green did match her eyes.

"Ah..." Odette gave a little laugh, shaking her head. "I didn't know, honestly. Like I said. I only heard you guys play the one time. I could just make a new one, if you don't like the colors. It's not that much of an issue."

Ugh. She hated making things so small with that much detail in them, it was a pain, and always took so much longer than making bigger things...with less detail.

Oh. Great way to fail, logic. Thank goodness Merric couldn't hear her thoughts, or he'd really think she was some sort of pathetic loser.

She swallowed, then shrugged. "It's up to you. Anyway, Dark blue and grey remind me of a bruise, kind of....And that's depressing."

...What she was saying, she could not comprehend. Way to go, brain and mouth. Communication. You two need to work on that. There were just things you didn't go around saying.

Depressing.. yeah... okay girl. Whatever you say. Merric inched closer to the door, his grip loose on the statue. He'd drop it in the closet garbage can the minute he got the chance.

He wasn't sure if he was going to get the chance.

He glanced around, silver eyes wary. Well his business was done so he really just needed to get out of there as fast as possible before the chick like lunged at him or something and tried to make out with him or something.

... Yes, it has happened before. And almost broke his bass because of it. HE DOESN'T WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN OKAY? It was tramatic because his bass is like four hundred dollars and its the only thing that isn't tainted with Alex all over it (just one spot at the base of the strap but he won't tell you that) and he loves that thing like a child. NEVER AGAIN.

Merric reminded himself that he had no bass with him and all was well.

"Ah, right then. Well I've got nothing else to do so I guess I should go now..." And get as far away as possible from you as I can. He said with an awkward chuckle like sound as he backed towards the door.

Smooth, Odette. Really smooth. The girl swallowed, nodding, and seeming both a little guilty and ashamed.

"I'm so sorry for making you feel uncomfortable, Merric. I never intended...for that to happen...Though,"

She swallowed, then looked away. "Would you maybe, perhaps...want to go get coffee or something this Sunday...? I'll treat. To make it up for me cornering you like this? If...If you'd want."

Yeah. Apology coffee...Nothing better, right?

...Or so she hoped.

Merric stared at the girl for a while, weighing his options. He could run without saying thing, he could tell her that he had band practice and a gig that night (which was the truth, but if he did that she might want to come to the gig and totally embarase him and he really didn't want that), he could actually say yes (which might end up ending really badly) or he could simply not say anything at all.

"Uh, well... I have band practice that day and a gig that night, but, uh, I guess near lunchtime I have time... to have coffee, though I don't drink much..." he said, scratching his head.

Wait what?

Merric Hollinger did you just agree to go to coffee with some weird stalker fangirl chick?

You did... didn't you?

You did.

It was taking too long for Merric to answer her, he was going to say no…she just knew it. Finally it came. The answer she was expecting. Band gig, yeah, of course he was turning her—Wait.

The brunette stared at the male for a few moments. Did he just say…yes? Odette swallowed, then smiled, nodding.

“Well, they have more than coffee…it’s a whole little café, there’s food, sandwiches, it’s really nice. One of my favorite places to just sit and read at.”

Odette gave a little smile. “What time would you like to meet there? Would Eleven thirty be okay for you, Merric?”

She still couldn’t believe that this was really happening. Best day ever. No doubt.

Merric barely heard the girl. He'd done WHAT NOW?! What the hell was he doing, agreeing to a date with a stalker chick?! More to the point, he hadn't dated in months, he'd sworn off woman entirely, hoping, almost willing that Alex would come back to him. Had he finally accepted that she never was? That perhaps stalker chick-- who he realized had never said her name--- wasn't so bad after all?

Naw she was still a creep, but she was trying not to be... he thought. Maybe it wouldn't be so awkward?

Nah.

Besides the point, it shocked Merric that he'd said yes. How could he, the bass player who couldn't sleep without seeing his ex's face in his dreams, be saying yes to a complete stranger creeper for a date? It boggled his mind. Almost so much he just about forgot she was there.

"Huh wa-- Uh yeah, sure, that's fine. Also do you have a name? You never said it earlier..." he said, trailing off.

His band mates were so going to laugh at him...
