Taerrin

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

╫Main Information╫

Full Name: Taerrin
Bloodline: Ranger
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Nation: Sol Solis
Land: His family was a pack of nomads that wandered around Sol Solis, but now he resides in Aqualiis
Title: Etlys's guard

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

╫Equipment Information:╫

Weapons: An average looking bow that is just as average as it is average looking. He made it himself as part of his ranger training. On the top, there is a bushel of bright red feathers from his father's cloak. A few of his arrows also have these feathers on them. He prizes these above all others.

Armor: Taerrin has a pair of leather vambraces, a leather shoulder guard that goes over his right shoulder, and a pair of leather greaves.

Clothing: Taerrin is most often found wearing a slightly fancy high collared poncho, beneath which he wears a generic white shirt and some generic dark pants that probably used to be blue, but are now simply a mixture of mud, dust, dirt, grass stains, and anything else you can think of. He is also nearly always wearing his older brother's dark brown cloak, which falls pretty much to his ankles.

What else do they have on their person?: He keeps a pouch on him at all times that usually contains little more than a bunch of dried out, salted meat, which he will munch on randomly. He keeps any money he has in his left boot, and any other items he has to carry will find themselves carelessly thrown into his quiver, except a small knife, which stays in his belt, and a simple rectangular pendant made of stone, which is representative of his nomadic family, and is worn around his neck, under his tunic and shirt.

╫Fighting Style╫
Taerrin, like any other ranger, prefers to fight from quite the distance away. The less a chance the monster has of storming up and bashing your head in, or the head of your dear friend hiding behind the rock over there, the better. He tries to kill as quick as possible to keep both himself and his best friend from the danger that often comes with not killing rampaging monsters fast enough, and his favorite place to shoot from is a tree, a rooftop, or any other relatively high location. If he does, however, find himself anywhere within head bashing range of some random angry monster, Taerrin will not hesitate to grab his green-haired Slyph friend and high tail it out of there.

╫Character Description╫

Personality: Taerrin's a rather quirky boy. Having grown up with a nomadic people, he tends to either forget, overlook, or completely ignore common social norms (one example being his love for being on rooftops, when clearly most boys his age simply don't belong on rooftops). If anyone points out this strangeness to him, the boy will simply stare blankly, and continue on with whatever it was he was doing before. The tree most important things to him are heights, Etyls, and animals, and you can't hurt heights, but if you dare lay a finger on Etyls or some harmless little beast, you'll find an arrow through your chest before you can even blink. He's extremely protective, both of his friend and of nature, and while he's usually a rather happy kid, he won't forgive anyone who even thinks about harming either. But really, though, it's hard to catch this guy without a smile. Taerrin craves motion, and feels incredibly uncomfortable staying in one place for long. He fears the underground and locked doors more than anything, but he will face them for his friend. He will hunt and kill animals, unlike some other rangers, as the nomads sometimes had a difficult time gathering enough sustenance from plants, especially in areas were plants were harder to find, but he will try his hardest to so do as sparingly as physically possible, and will always treat the death with the utmost of respect, even if it was a monster that was trying to make both he and Etlys its noontime snack.
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 133
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Black
Talents: Taerrin is most skilled in archery, climbing, and running away from things, but he also has talents in navigation and tracking. Also, recently as a result of his friendship with Etlys, he has developed a certain talent for giving piggy back rides.
Theme Music: to be updated
Companion: A little tern named Runn that likes to take his fish.

╫Background Information╫

Taerrin was born to a family of nomads, a pack of ten to twenty rangers who wandered the lands of Sol Solis. He was the second child of four, always tailing behind his older brother, Ruid, more like a shadow than a child. The nomadic life was a simple one, with simple ways and simple enough rules; don't wander off too long, don't upset the gods, and never plant your roots in any town, unless you're willing to get left behind. Taerrin was raised on archery and motion with a steadfast love of nature splattered somewhere in between. He knew the feel of a bow before he could even say the word, was up and running while other children his age who lived in the cities were still struggling to stand on shaking legs. His father taught him to shoot, his mother taught him to aim, his brother taught him how to climb, and the clan elders made sure the boy had a strict understanding of their nature based religion. Life for the child was...nomadic. He saw little of cities and towns, always happy to stay behind with his brother when it came time for some of the clan to travel in and gather supplies, waiting excitedly like a dog at the door for his parents to wander back to the little cluster of bonfires and sew their children tales of what was going on out there, in the world that stood still. It all sounded like stories to him, politics and whatnot. His people cared little for the conflicts of kings and queens and kingdoms; they were wanderers. That's just how things were.

Taerrin's first glimpse of the world that stood still' came about when he was five. Something had gone wrong he was too little to know about, someone'd gotten hurt, and it wasn't anything they could wrap up with some cloth and ignore for a while. They had just crossed over the bridge on their way out of Aqualiis and were setting up camp for the night when Taerrin's father came to him, and said they turning around, headed back into the country, to the Slyph temple. The boy was confused, they'd never turned around before, but when he opened his mouth to question it his brother shot him a silencing look, and that was the end of it. His mother rolled up rolled up the beds and his father stomped out the fire and they joined the small cluster of rangers, headed back over the bridge in the dead of night.

His mother was part of the small group of three that actually went into the temple, the rest of the clan huddling around fires on the other end of the bridge, and for the first time in his life, Taerrin left his brother to follow her. The temple itself was boring, but inside the black haired ranger boy found himself suddenly face to face with another child, a green haired Slyph kid named Etlys. It was then it occurred to the dear five year old Taerrin that he had yet to meet another child his age. There were only two other kids in the clan besides himself, his brother, and his younger twin sisters, and one was an infant and the other nearly a man, and all at once the young ranger child suddenly felt very, very lonely. But lucky for him, the wait in the temple was long, and the Slyph kid named Etlys was kind, and the two made rather fast friends.

In a day or so, the rangers left Aquialiis once again, and for the first time, Taerrin actually found himself saddened by the notion of leaving. As the years went on and his family traveled, the growing boy looked forward to the days they spent in Aqualiis with more and slowly more anticipation. When people traveled in to town to head to the markets for supplies, he stole away to the temple to find his green haired friend, and when they left the water land, he spent every step of the way thinking of new games he could play upon their return. But eventually, as time waned on, and the child grew older, that suddenly wasn't enough.

Etlys was a slyph. Slyphs weren't good fighters, defenders, runners. Aside from their incredible abilities at putting broken people back together, they were horrible at taking care of themselves. And yet, Etlys was the kind of kid that often (though accidentally) got himself in trouble, and this worried Taerrin greatly. He knew about death. He knew about losses of loved ones, but he didn't know what he would do if he showed up at the temple one time and Etlys simply wasn't there. No, the boy needed a guardian, a protector of sorts, and he was just the kid for the job, at least in his own mind.

One evening, as the clan was setting up camp for the night and his father sat alone by a fire, Taerrin approached the man with a very serious question on his mind. They were, once again, in Aqualiis, and plans were being made to leave soon. Taerrin was convinced he was old enough now, surely by now, to live on his own. He could fire a bow almost as well as his brother, who was a perfect shot, he knew how to hunt and prepare his own food, mend patches, read maps and watch the stars. He could run laps with the wind and climb any tower, and nothing scared him. Not one thing. Not at all. Or at least, that's what he told his father.

The next morning, as the nomadic rangers of Sol Solis were making their way out of Aqualiis, Taerrin wasn't with them. From that day on Taerrin and Etlys were inseparable. Taerrin protected the boy and kept him from getting too lost, and Etlys was a friend for the ranger who'd grown up, more or less, alone. Sure, Taerrin misses the nomadic life. He finds it odd to have stayed in one place for so long, and would very much love to leave, go traveling across Sol Solis once more, but he has his duties to Etlys, now, and those are much more important. Or at least, that's what he told his father.
