It wasn't surprising, nor did it really need any explanation, that Cat was in the library. He certainly had a lot of musing to do, and he was certain that, had he not walked there himself, he would have been dragged to the library by his subconscious.
The bookshelves were delightfully high in comparison to the boil's old haunts as well, and climbing them to observe all the comings and goings was very quickly becoming a habit. He hoped it wasn't a vice.
So, upon the bookshelves the black Cat perched, his Cheshire Smile hidden away for the time being as he awaited someone...interesting. Someone who would be fun to have all to himself for a short while. Who would it be, he wondered? A new face, or an old one? Either would be equally entertaining. Oh, he could wait all day. Things seemed quiet enough do to so, and he certainly would, given the chance.
Watching, waiting, patiently musing over his plan of attack.

The library was often a quiet sanctuary for Jove, a place where he could relax and satisfy his desire for peace and quiet. When he didn't have any homework, he would pick a book off the shelf at random and pour through it all afternoon. Everything from architecture to medicine, and literature. He didn't understand half of it, but it was still entertaining to read.
So when he came trotting into the depths of the library, it was with a contented expression and a large book on magical creatures clutched in his arms. It had to have weighed at least three times his own mass, rivalling the oldest magical encyclopedias stored in the very back rooms. It would take him all week to get through this one, and he might have stayed there the whole time if not for summer classes and lessons.
He happily sat down in one of the chairs and opened the book to the table of contents. He didn't even notice the spooky presence lingering amongst the books.

What? What was this, now? Cat perked up from his lazy reclining on one of the high shelves, glowing white grin flickering into existence at once. Oh fun, oh what fun!
Cat knew that fluffy little blue and white figure.
The moment Jove wandered into the library he may as well have worn a big sign indicating his readiness for harassment. Remaining deathly silent (to his own ears at least, he had no idea of the capacity of a puppy that could SENSE ectoplasmic forms) he slipped down from the shelves and scooted across to attempt to creep up behind the pup.

Something was not right... Jove could feel it once he sat down and opened the book in front of him. The creeping sensation he was quickly growing to recognize as the presence of someone in particular. Someone who seemed to be both a friend and antagonist in equal measure.
His fluffy ears pressed down against the back of his head, and he turned to scan the area, looking for the black cat ghost. He hadn't expected Cat to be right behind him by that point though! With an embarrassing flail he pulled back, almost falling out of his chair.

Cat couldn't, and didn't even attempt to, suppress an excited burst of laughter at the little frightened spasm the other ghost had.
"Goodness!" He tittered cheerfully, his entire body jiggling slightly with his laughter, "Did I startle you~?"
He took a few steps back to a safer distance, not wanting the pup to flee for his life just yet, and observed with a broad grin and a tilted head. "Oh, don't answer that," He teased lightly, all in good fun as far as he was aware; his tone was entirely pleasant, if not utterly patronizing. "Not that you would, mind, I was simply fascinated seeing such a little boil with such a big book. Are you holding it for someone?"

And it appeared today was an antagonistic day. Jove's ears flattened back and a 'not impressed' look spread across his freckled face. Cat was just all together too happy about the situation, and it bothered the little pup.
He managed to save at least a little dignity when the other ghost stepped back, interpreting it as a tactical retreat based on safety considerations, rather than what it was in truth. Being out of arm's range for the barrage of size-related jabs seemed like a wise decision for someone who might have been ever so slightly afraid of the pup.
With no way of physically retaliating, and no verbal retort coming to mind, he could only scowl and turn back to his book. And try to ignore the creepy crawly feeling that ran up his spine. What in Jack's name was it about that cat boil that was so bizarre?

Cat could practically see the chills he was inducing in the pup, and it only made him grin and giggle more.
Oh, he wanted to play that way, did he?
Jove turning away was only a big shining invitation for Cat to come closer. Much, much closer. Thoughts of keeping his distance to stop the other ghost skittering away in terror vanished as the other attempted to ignore him. He could have taunted from a distance all day, but now?
"It isn't nice," Cat might as well have teleported at the speed he slid up to peer directly over the boil's shoulder, inclining his head so his big white smile and orb-like eyes stared pointedly, directly at the other. "To turn your back when someone is talking to you. Did you know?" Disregarding, of course, how rude it was to scare the ever-unliving out of someone, invade their personal space, and then tease them about it.

When he felt the other ghost's presence creeping up behind him, a visible shiver ran from his tail to his ears. That was too close! His ears flattened. Grabbing his book, he turned around and used it to gently push the other boil back, and attempt to widen the distance between them. His flat look was clearly unimpressed, as though saying "I thought you were done talking."
Jove suspected it was pointless to hope Cat would stop talking, or that he would keep that space when he moved the book. The boil would probably go ahead and follow him even if he got up and left the library! Somehow he had to put up with it...
He peered into the dark shadows that made up the other boil, wondering if he could catch a glimpse of whatever it was that bothered him so much. They said eyes were like a window to the soul... But in Cat's case, the window had to be elsewhere. The pup was sure Cat would not make his secret so easy to discover.

"Aw, come now, that isn't nice at all~" Gleefully, he soaked up the obvious discomfort he was causing in the other ghost, only leaning to peer around the book when it was pushed towards him. The pup's obviously displeased expression only made it all the more exciting, and in one swift movement Cat was suddenly on the opposite side of him.
The darting motion caused a vague wobble in Cat's form, blobbing ever so slightly out to one side for nothing but the blink of an eye, before setting back proper. Wether he had done this on purpose, or not even aware of it at all, was debatable. Either way he would not be revealing the specifics of his secret so easily; not to someone who was obviously so horrified at the mere feeling of it.
He saw Jove staring. His grin widened. "Oh? Have I got something on me? Did I spill something?" He mocked looking down at himself, patting his hands over the ribbons that made up his shirt as though searching for a tell-tale food stain. His grin didn't waver.

Cat was teasing him.
Cat was teasing him mercilessly, and they were both aware of it. Jove didn't like it one bit.
The scowl that came to the pup's face was usually the sort accompanied by a scathing retort. Like "Yeah, you spilled some ugly on your face," or "Stop making gnomes vomit." But the pup was silent as ever. It was hard to tell if his lack of speech was being gentlemanly in this case, or just his usual state of being. After a second or two he turned away and thumped his book back down at the desk, once he felt his disapproval had been sufficiently expressed.
Although he often held his curled tail up these days, a side-effect from his slowly increasing levels of confidence, under Cat's grinning gaze it instead curled down the side of one leg and up into his lap. His fluffy ears were folded back quite unhappily, scrawny shoulders hunched protectively. And then out of the corner of his eye, he glanced back to make sure Cat was still where he seemed to be. He clearly couldn't read while the shadowy boil was hovering over one shoulder.

Cat generally made a point to not be where he was expected- in his own mind, at least -those who knew him even the slightest would be able to find him hiding amongst the bookshelves more often then not. But it was the mystery of it, right?
He saw Jove was getting cranky. Far from deterring him, it only made him happy. Laugh, even!
Hu hu, indeed.
In usual circumstances, he would have dismissed his shadowy outer layer and moved, invisible, to a new position before wrapping himself up once more. His most favorite startling visual effect.
He was not certain, however, that Jove would not be able to sense him better this way. Not wanting to ruin the surprise for later, Cat settled for moving quickly where Jove was not looking, and taking a seat on the table right beside the huge book.
"Little boils should not make such cranky faces~" He had quickly learnt speaking of the pup in a patronizing way that suggested he was much too young and cute for things was the fastest way to set him huffing and pouting. "They say it stays that way sometimes. Did you know, as well? It seems there are a lot of things people haven't told you not to do." His smile was the only real assurance that he still meant it all in 'good fun.'
He hoped, at the least, it would get a word or two out of him.

Although Cat managed to pull a startled look from the pup once again, there were no words forthcoming. Jove recovered as quickly as possible and set to scowling right away. He was not a little boil, and he would make all the cranky faces he wanted to! Because it was completely warranted!
He pulled the book off the table and into his lap, tilting the giant thing so he could get as far away from Cat as possible without giving any ground, and still read at the same time. It was a wonder he wasn't completely squished in half by the weight of the thing. But... he still couldn't read with that wide-eyed grin being directed at him.
With an exasperated look, Jove glanced up from the book as though trying to say "All those things are stupid."
Really, did Cat really get that much of a rise out of teasing him like this? Jove was relieved the other boil didn't seem interested in the traditional bullying, shoving him into lockers and whatnot, and the pup even doubted one so similar to himself in stature could manage it... But there was still that creepy feeling to account for. It was like Cat was there, but not there, and Jove had to fight off the feeling that the other boil could simply stretch out that invisible presence and completely surround him. Was this really teasing, or was it playing with a mouse before they eat it?
