Tox had become absolutely insufferable since the incident. Whether the bouncy little nergal scareon had any real relation to him or not was impossible to guess (how did minipets reproduce, if they did at all? Perhaps that was a question to ask of Professor Malcolm), but he was certainly strutting and puffing as though he'd done something amazing. On top of that, he'd become downright aggressive towards her, no longer the cuddly creature she'd known. He'd bitten her this morning, and sprawled out on her desk, refusing to move. Siddie couldn't understand it.

... She also couldn't do her homework with her suddenly-hostile mini taking up all available space on her desk. So she'd gathered up her books, her pensnake, and her favorite doll and come to the library instead. She made her way between the stacks to a table and dropped her books with a disconsolate thud. The doll and pensnake were placed neatly to one side, and she took her chair, only to jump up with a half-strangled shriek as something squirmed under her rear.

The noodidoot she had sat upon looked up at her without interest and oozed its way off the chair. Siddie bit her lip and curled her hands into fists, just about ready to cry. Nothing was going right today, and she was very, very tired of it.

A good Cat never ignores a lady in distress.

Or, at least, that's what this Cat had come to believe. In fact, Siddie had now provoked two of the boil's most highly regarded rules, and could not have got his attention faster if she wanted to. He assumed she wanted to.

As swift as soap sliding down a bathtub, Cat slipped down from his favorite perch on the bookshelf and shot to a safe distance behind the ghoul, before approaching leisurely as though he hadn't mentally painted a big target on the back of her head. Smooth, very smooth. Had he a comb, he would probably be slicking his hair back as he strutted along.

"What's the matter, there, little miss?" He crooned, coming to the most casual stop he could muster at her table.

Siddie jumped and looked over at the stranger who had appeared, sympathetic, out of nowhere. "I - I - " she stuttered, and then her lip wobbled and she said all in a rush, "Tox bit me and there were no scrambled eyes left at breakfast and I sat on a noodidoot and now my pen has crawled off and it's all so stupid but my day has been horrible and I want it to stop."

When she'd run out of words, she took a deep breath, and in so doing, got a good look at the boil. "Oh!" she said, in a more normal (if still slightly wobbly) voice. "Are you Cat?"

Cat couldn't help a small chortle at the sudden rush of words from the ghoul, and lifted his hands in a motion torn between comforting and defensive. "Goodness, have you ever been busy~" His voice held no malice, only a light and playful tone that, in his own way, was meant to comfort her.

At her recognition of him, however, he immediately realized who she was in return. The shadow ghoul from Groanspring? What luck!

"I am indeed," He Smiled and bowed to her slightly, "And you must be...Obsidian? Or, 'shadowsecrets'. Correct?"

"Yes, that's right. Please, call me Siddie," she said, smiling a little now. "I didn't know you'd arrived at school. It's nice to meet you." She made a little curtsy on impulse, feeling silly, but at the same time, that wasn't a bad thing, right? "Thank you for coming over to check on me," she added. "It really has been a day. But it's looking up now."

Get a pump and stick it in Cat's ego, indeed. The day was looking up because of him? Well, of course it was; every ghoul was always happy to see him!

"Siddie it is, then~" He said in silken tones, grin widening at her polite gesture. "One must always check on a crying ghoul, of course," He added, inclining his head to one side slightly to look her over. Goodness, she really was made of shadows, wasn't she? And a white smile like his own, he noted as she cheered up enough to show it off, how curious!

"But there, look, I have already made you smile. Yes~?" He indicated this to her, just to enforce the fact that he was indeed the very best with ghouls. Surely she would notice, but he had to be sure.

"What a gentleman you are," Siddie answered, smiling a bit more. "It's truly appreciated. The courtesy and the smile both." She pushed a stray curl back behind her ear and studied him with interest. He was made of shadow, much like herself, but she could sense a faint magnetism, a slight tugging at her shadowstuff - not, of course, enough to do anything to her, but enough to tell her that his shadow was somehow gathered rather than grown as hers was.

Pen Fifteen, meanwhile, had finished its journey down the leg of the table. Now it began another leg of its explorations. A rather literal leg. Cat's leg, in fact.
