This wasn't the hour of the day that Touch of Night preferred. For one, it was daylight, and sunlight dappled down in places whenever the canopy overhead broke open. For two, he stuck out like a noonday shadow, tall and lanky and longer of limb, and though it gave him a ground-eating pace, it also made him a target for wandering eyes -- something he attempted to avoid at all costs.
His stomach gurgling most embarrassingly, Night slowed down when he came across a berry bush, the scent enticing despite the muzzle-staining the berries promised to leave behind. Perhaps if he just rubbed his muzzle enough in the water after eating, it wouldn't stain for long...

Life wandered through the dappled shadows that the leaves cast down on the land as three young ones, two colts and a filly, played tag around her legs. She smiled, stopping short as one of the colts used her back flank to hide from the filly.
"Not fair, not fair!" she chirped, chasing the hiding colt around the doe in circles before all three took off running ahead, laughing. Life sighed wistfully as she watched them run off to play.
She noticed that she was near a puddle that hadn't yet been dried by the sun and bent down to lap at it. Playing tag made her thirsty...

The sound of cavorting younglings caught Night's attention, and he pulled his muzzle free of the berry bush, dunking it immediately in a nearby puddle. The last thing he cared to do was look ridiculous around other kimeti. That puddle, however, was simply not deep enough, and he pulled it free, hunting for another one -- before pausing when he realized the nearest large puddle already had a kimeti at it. He hesitated, then finally stepped closer. "Are they yours?" he asked quietly, his voice low and soft. "They sounded like they could run anyone ragged."

Life paused mid lap and looked up at the buck, her tongue still sticking out between her lips.
"Uh uph.." she quickly pulled her tongue back into her mouth, blushing. A little down the road, one of the colts comes flying out of the brush, landing on the other colt with a battle cry. The two boys began to wrestle in the dirt while the filly watched, unimpressed.
"Boys are stupid.." she declared, sitting to watch the other two bite and scrap with each other.
"No, no, not mine.." Life said with a chuckle. "Just a few a found lost in the swamp. One of those boys went exploring and the other two tagged along. The ones I have are long grown.." She returns her gaze from the kids to the buck.
"I've never seen you before..."

"Nor I you," Night murmured. He glanced at the puddle, relieved to find he wasn't berry-stained, then turned his gaze to the cavorting younglings, though his words were addressed to the doe. "I tend to not be out and about much. My name is Touch of Night, but Night will suffice. ...It is kind, that you're watching over them."

Life smiled a little shyly and shook her head a bit, some of her curls falling across her face.
"Oh no, I love little ones, they need a lot of guiding in order to become proper Kimeti and make the FatherMother proud to have blessed their parents with offspring."
She flicked her head, trying to move the curls back from her eyes. The stuck there from tiny beads of sweat she'd worked up keeping along with the three youngsters.
"Night..." she considered the name, nodded a little, liking it and gave him small bow of the head. "I'm Life.." she paused. "Just Life." she said with a small chuckle. "Nothing fancy I know.."

Night gave a slight shake of his head. "It's not necessary to have a fancy name. An appropriate one is far more important. And if you are concerned with young kimeti growing up to be proper ones worthy of pride, then I would say that you have an appropriate name."
