Sanol. Sanol. Sanol.

Fick was terrible with names, and so he ran this one through his mind again and again. It would be nice to have a new wher handler about the place, there weren't all that many of them so it was always interesting to see new blood. Glowbasket in hand the brown-haired man wended his way up one of the twisting tunnels that led up from the communal areas of the Weyr to the clifftops where apparently the blooded pair would be waiting.

"Vrrkss?" asked Ficksk, who had been thinking about the meal she'd just had rather than what was whizzing through her handler's head. "Vrr...kss-ssk?" He was definitely thinking about whers she didn't know. She wasn't sure about that, sounded like danger to her, lots of it!

"No danger," Fick assured her with a grin, slapping the green wher fondly on the shoulder, "just good things, and yes it's to do with whers. A new wher and his handler, remember I told you they were coming? Well 'parently they've arrived so we're going to meet them. Okay?"

"...Vrr." She wasn't sure that it was okay, she was still ready for it to be danger but she would take Fick's word for now and not attack when they saw them... It might be nice to have a new wher around, a new male wher. So long as he wasn't danger it would be very nice.

Eventually a faint breeze - and of course great familiarity with the tunnels - informed Fick that he was nearing the exit. Half covering his glow so as not to startle the wher if it was a flighty sort the brown-eyed man stepped out into the night air. Ficksk's senses quickly located two other warm live things, and a moment after that processed the shapes as man with wher.

"Krrk." Ficksk said, eyeing the strangers with white eyes, adding. "Danger. New people. Don't know. Could be bad?" to her handler.

"No Danger," Fick assured her with another pat, "it's fine, promise. I'm sure you'll like them a lot once we know them." Moving forward with Ficksk trotting alertly by his side, Fick offered the handler a smile. "Hi, I'm Fick and this is Ficksk, you must be..." s**t. "Sanol, right?" Phew.

Okay, so he had gotten directions, but had he mixed up the order of the turns? There wasn't anyone here waiting for them, and he was sure he had mixed up at least one turn. He sighed - he hated trying to find his way around new places. Always made him feel like an idiot when he got lost. Krrssk? Sanosk chirped, peering around the bend with a curious question. Who was that? Following Sanosk's lead, he saw two others head into view, a wher handler and his wher. Well, would you look at that! Guess he hadn't made that wrong turn after all. He didn't know why he had been expecting a higher-colored wher, but the green at this man's side rather surprised him. He had figured Sanosk would be pretty low on the chain, but maybe that assumption was wrong. Heck, if he turned out to be the only male here, he'd be having a bit too much fun. Sanol tried to prevent a frown from finding its way to his face - he didn't want to seem upset right off the bat.

Ah, yes, I was supposed to report to you upon our arrival he said, still tired and somewhat grumpy from their journey. He normally would have made a slightly better attempt at a decent first impression, but a week with hardly any sleep would put anyone off their game. This is Sanosk he offered, trying to smooth over his blunt and impersonal "greeting", if you dared call it that. Sanosk tilted his head at the other wher and chirped once in a greeting, though he had moved protectively towards Sanol, just in case this green got any ideas. You never could tell with other whers. Sometimes all it took was a bad glance and they'd be at your throat. Sanosk was going to make sure this green knew that wouldn't work here, and while he wasn't outright hostile, he had puffed himself up a bit to appear larger, standing still and quiet at Sanol's side.

"Ssk, mrr," Ficksk rumbled, the sounds meaning 'wher' and 'human' respectively, not that it would be obvious to anyone but her handler as each's wher's 'words' were peculiar to that given individual. As the blue puffed himself up, however, the green's mood darkened and she started to hiss. Flaring up her wings, eyes whirling white, she made to step protectively in front of her handler; she wouldn't let anyone intimidate her squishy delicate human-thing!

The brindled green's progress was impeded, however, by a hand gripping her muzzle. "Calm down Fi," Fick said in a lazy drawl, pushing her nose down until she stepped backwards, "he's just new here, bound to be a bit on edge so how about you be a big girl and keep y'hide on? Good t'meet you then Sanol, and aren't you just a little ray of sunshine on this dark night? You come a long way, I guess? Want a sit down and get a bite to eat before I show you your quarters?" He nearly offered to help the other handler with and heavy baggage he had, but then he remembered that he was another handler and realised there was no need.

Sanol hadn't paid much attention to Sanosk puffing up to look big - it was such normal behavior from the wher it didn't mean much to him. When the green flared her wings and hissed, however, that got his near immediate attention. Sanosk hissed right back at her, though kept his wings closed and didn't move much, aside from stretching out his neck naturally with the action of hissing. Cut it out, will ya? You're probably scaring her he snipped. Sanosk turned to look at his handler, keeping one eye on the volatile green. She hissed he complained, though silenced himself with a bit of re-arranging of his front feet, almost stamping, but not angry. She had started it after all, so why did he have to behave?

Maybe....I should get him settled in first? Sanol said, ignoring the jibe about being a ray of sunshine. A week in a bouncing wagon with no sleep has been no good for either of us he added as an afterthought. He glanced speculatively at the green. Her bark seemed worse than her bite, if Fick's reaction was anything to judge by. She was probably just intimidated, or trying to protect her handler, though why Fick would need protecting from Sanosk was anyone's idea. It seemed to be a wher thing.

He shifted the pack on his back a bit and picked up the bag at his feet with the hand that wasn't currently resting on Sanosk, waiting for their guide to show them the way. He'd rather eat with Sanosk safely secured and without his bags weighing him down. Then it was going to be a nice long snooze for the both of them, if he had his way.

"Right," Fick grinned, slapping Ficksk's neck affectionately before turning back the way he'd come. "Bet I'd be cranky too," he went on, "never did like traveling, and Fi really hates it, convinced every new thing is 'danger'. Daft girl." As if his own discomfort wasn't enough, a stressed out wher was enough to drive anyone up the wall. If he had his way they wouldn't be leaving Malvren anytime soon. It was a good place to live, it was home.

"You're just down the hall from me," Fick went on as they stepped into the tunnel and gloom descend once more. "Quarters here aren't bad, don't get your own bathing room but there are communal ones quite close that aren't half bad and there's a separate chamber for your wher to sleep, for you to sleep, bit of storage space and a bit of a living area too. Doesn't come with a load of furniture but I looked in yours and you got a decent bed, and a table and two chairs in the living area... Ah, here we are."

Coming to a half outside a wooden door Fick fished a latch lifter out of his pocket and held it out to the other handler. "Welcome t'your new home, hope it meets whatever standards you got, but after ages on the road I expect about anything is an improvement, yea?"

Roomier than what we left Sanol commented, taking the latch lifter from the other handler and opening the door, sticking his head inside for a moment. Ah, good, San's area has it's own door, so he doesn't have to be chained up all the time he remarked with approval. He knew and well understood the necessity of the chains, but he preferred his partner to have some free time when he was in a safe area. Safe for others, not for him. I'll be right out he said in an aside to Fick. He really would relax some when Sanosk was all situated, and he wouldn't be as irritated, either. That his partner had his own room - stone all around, at that, made Sanol really quite happy with the quarters here. At least when they were alone, he wouldn't need the chains, unless for some odd reason they had visitors. Still, no point taking chances their first night here, especially if he was going to be leaving him to get some grub.

He put down all the heavy sacks by the two chairs, pulling out the spare chain and collar and heading into Sanosk's room while the wher sniffed about cautiously. This collar was slightly padded on the inside so it wouldn't chafe him as he slept, and it was this he rigged to the already available hooks in the room. Sanosk came over obediently, but concerned. I know bud, but I'll be fine, honest Sanol soothed, scratching San's eye ridges after clipping him in the collar. He spread some of San's favorite fur tatters on the ground. He had scrounged them when some woman was throwing them out, and San had become really quite attached to them. Whers.

With Sanosk all situated, Sanol didn't give another thought to unpacking his stuff yet - he could get to that later. Right now, he was hungry. He could unpack while his stomach settled before he set in for a nice long sleep, assuming he didn't have duty right away, that was. Ducking back out into the hall, he glanced with a bit more of a relaxed grin at Fick. I don't think we're going to make traveling a habit, either, if we can help it he said with a bit of a rueful smile, acting almost as if he had consumed a glass of wine while inside - the instant relaxation was rather profound. Not that he was all happy go lucky now - this was a concerted effort to get to know those around him. Hadn't Fick said they were close to his spot? So which one is yours? he asked, trying to make conversation, along with knowing where at least one of his fellow handlers could be found.

"Right," Fick nodded, "no rush, take y'time."

As the other handler vanished inside his quarters Fick lent casually against the wall, stroking his wher's smooth tough hide fondly. When Sanol reappeared he gave the green's shoulder a pat and stepped away. "Just down here," he gestured down the hall and set off, "I'll just drop Ficksk in her chamber and then we can go find something to eat."

On reaching his own quarters Fick stepped inside, leaving the door ajar so that Sanol could peer in if he fancied to see what such a place could look like once it was properly furnished. Ficksk - sensing that she was about to be left behind and get no fun and no food - huffed and came to a halt, fixing her handler with an orange glare. "Vrrr," she hissed; leaving her here on her own was bad of him!

"Hush-it Fi," Fick responded, giving her rump a slap to get her moving again, "I'll be back later, but for now you have to behave or it'll go very vrr for you. No bones to crunch, got it?"

Giving a rather pitiful whine the green wher lowered her head and allowed her wings and tail to droop in the biggest display of sad-hard-done-to-wher she could muster. When Fick slapped her rump again however she gave another huff and gave up the act and slouched into her chamber to lie down. Stupid Fick, he should be paying attention to her not to this new strange human. Meanie.

Shutting the door behind his charge and bolting it, Fick rolled his eyes and headed back out to Sanol. "Right whiny little madame she can be when she doesn't get her way," he said with a shake of his head, "the pathetic act never works but she still tries it on every time. Hu, still, you want to go find that food now?"
