I have a friend, not associated with my other friends 'Coven', who is Pagan. They are really really attached to an author, Scott Cunningham, and has been basing much of their Path and religious belief around Cunningham's works. So I need to know whether Cunningham is fake, or if he's completely misinformed or what have you. I know form the book he showed me that its for "Solitary Wicca", and I have been trying to explain that he can't possibly be explaining Wicca only Witchcraft, but other than that is at all reliable?

If I'm remembering correctly, Cunningham was initiated briefly into Wicca before he left and decided to create his own Non-Wicca path. And when I say briefly, I mean like, he got in, heard a few things, and that was that.
Is the information he's providing a good example of Wicca? No, it's not. But he has created his own path. So long as your friend is willing to accept that what he's learning is Cunningham's path and not general ENP OR WICCA, there shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Same thing with Witchcraft. I haven't read much of Cunningham's work, but from what I've seen he treats witchcraft as a religion and he might even use deities as "ingredients" to the spells he provides, which is something I think is a huge no-no.
Stick around, someone with more info on him is sure to be by. 3nodding

Cunningham's information is about his tradition Standing Stone- and all in all it isn't too bad. Some of his books can be a little preachy and they're soft polytheistic- but other than that I don't have any problem with him.
Morg mentioned that Cunningham regretted calling his books "Wicca"- but just like Standing Stone isn't Feri or Dianic or any other kind of religious witchcraft- that doesn't make it bad.

Yeah, I mean, people have their problems with it (it's very "love and light"), but compared to some other authors, not bad. It's his tradition, and he built a fairly good one... "Living Wicca" is much better than "Solitary" and I quite like it myself. The main issue with it from my perspective is that he is very soft poly and I find the way he talks about the gods a bit offensive sometimes.

Awesome . Thanks so much guys. This is great news. I was really hoping my friend wasn't uber attached to a fluffy author and he's not. Excellent
