Another successful Hatching, it was all Abigail could really ask for. Every dragonet had Impressed and some were proving to be expectionally strong personalities. The gold was promising, that little black from the end intrigued her... all of them had potential.
And they would need it. The red star loomed ever closer and she knew they would likely be tested before they were truly ready for it. The thought left her anxious for as much as she was the head of the weyr and forced to be impartial, she cared deeply for the members of Trine.
She stood to one side of the door and L'ton stood opposite her, each with a small tray with the shoulder knots of rank for each of the newly Impressed riders. They greeted the youths as they arrived, saying short words of congratulations and welcoming questions and mingling with the rest of the riders in the party. The Wingleaders, the Wingseconds, a smattering of any riders that chose to attend... it was a time for the new recruits to mingle and get to know their peers.
Along one side of the feast hall, located on the shores of one of the lakes, complete with a railed pier that jutted out into the clear waters, was a line of tables stacked high with food - rolls, klah, meat, vegetables - and at the end, and equally delicious to the right eyes, were choice cuts of recently butchered wherry for the hatchlings.
When the last of the Weyrlings arrived, she did a quick count, then closed the door and set about to mingle with the youths for a few minutes - she'd let them settle before getting into her usual spiel.

To say that life had slowed down considerably since Impressing Galith would be a bit of an understatement. Lina knew her green would probably speed up a bit when she wasn't seeing things for the first time, but with all of her excitement, she found it a tad hard to take things slowly.
The biggest change (besides Impression itself) had been to settle in to the weyrling barracks. She found that their belongings had been moved for them, though they weren't settled to any degree. Lina found her trunk and assumed that space was meant for her and Galith. After seeing to Galith's comfort, she had slowly started settling in. They would be in these quarters for quite some time now, and it was worth actually settling in, she decided. Come dawn, she was properly asleep, one hand straying out of her bunk to rest against Galith, who slept peacefully, curled in an elegant ball of green, shiny hide.
Galith was full of nothing but patience for her Lina. She didn't understand the need to be moving things about, but it made Hers happy, so it was tolerable. They had some sort of event to attend later, and Galith was somewhat curious about this. She would be seeing and meeting all of her clutch mates for really the first time. She had observed them, yes, but she was rather expecting to be prodded at by some of the more active of the bunch. She had an attitude of resigned patience while Lina tried to decide what to wear to the feast. She settled on a midnight blue tunic with silver embroidery around the cuffs of the sleeve, images of stars, moons, and other celestial bodies as the silver embellishments. It also had a single silver rope down the front long-ways, waving down the center. She fastened on her best wherry-hide trousers, and slipped on her boots of the same color. A white belt with a moon as the clasp was slipped on, but covered by her tunic. She forced her short hair into a french braid, and finally deemed herself presentable. How do I look? she asked, spinning once for Galith's inspection. We must get you some green was her only response, drawing a chuckle from Lina. But I match the night sky! she protested, to which Galith seemed thoughtful for a moment, then approved her outfit.
They headed out towards the feast hall, following some of their peers that had already set out in that direction. Lina walked at Galith's side, a hand more often than not touching the green somewhere or another, staying in contact. She saw the weyrleaders standing at each side of the door, trays of rider's knots in their hands. Lina took hers with grateful solemnity, stepping aside to put it on her shoulder. She looked about the hall as she entered, noting all of the food available. Are you hungry? she asked Galith, who once again was busy absorbing the situation around her. After a rather prolonged pause, Not yet. I will wait. What she would wait for wasn't immediately obvious, though Lina had an idea it had something to do with her fellow weyrlings, or maybe a speech of some sort.

Lilias beamed as she strode through the doors and received her shoulder knots with pride. "Look Polarith!" she held the shoulder knots down for the small green to see. Polarith nosed the knots with the proper amount of curiosity and admiration. Very nice, but why do you have them? "I have them because you bonded to me and they are different from the others because you are a green. The other green riders have knots just like these." Lilias answered and scanned the food tables. Fancy that no crab cakes, well she had been a bit busy rescently. She grinned down at the green, who hummed loudly. Edit: Polarith noticed that one of her sisters was standing in the middle of the room not doing anything yet and decided to investigate. Lilias followed along after her dragon and greeted the other girl, while Polarith rubbed against her sister in greeting. "Hello, Melina isn't it, I recognize you from chores." Lilias said.

So many things seemed to have changed in just one night. She was no longer just a candidate waiting anxiously for the eggs to hatch and wondering over and over again if she wasn't the right 'stuff' for a rider. Maybe she would have even gone back the her crafthall if she hadn't Impressed. Or possibly the vintner would have hung around the Weyr for a little while longer. Many different things had gone through her mind, but none of them had been anywhere near what had actually been her fate.
For starters, she had a haughty golden dragonet to care for and spend her life with now. Said golden dragon had complained, loudly, about change number two. Narisa no longer resided in the Candidates quarters but now had her own weyr in the weyrling barracks. Cepheith had stalked all through their weyr, nudging and nosing everything grumbling and tail lashing. That trunk of Hers was too old. This section of the weyr was too dusty. It wasn't warm enough. It wasn't good enough. She had gone on and on until finally just sitting and staring at Narisa. Which was when the vintner girl had been able to inform her golden beauty that they had just moved in and had all day tomorrow, the following day, and so forth to arrange the weyr to Cepheith's liking.
Now, after finally having settled into their weyr and gotten some sleep, the pair made their way towards the feast. Narisa was still a little shocked that she had been chosen by the gold that walked beside her. Cepheith on the other hand, strutted confidently, that air of knowing who she was and making sure you knew it evident in her posture. "Remember what I mentioned, golden love. Don't go about shoving people around during this feast." She tapped Cepheith on the head to make sure she was listening.
It is not my fault if they don't move out of my way quick enough. She snorted at Hers. But for you, I shall try to do less shoving. The gold rubbed her snout against Hers before they reached the doorway. Eyes swirling a brilliant blue, she held herself up more fully and confidently walked with her rider.
Narisa let Cepheith's confident stride flow into her own step as she graciously accepted the riders knots from the Weyrwoman, a large and pleasant smile on her lips. "Thank you." She told her, moving away from the door as others flowed through. "Look, Cepheith!" Narisa held the knots out to the gold. Cepheith eyed the knots and snorted. They are ugly. Do you have to wear them? Her eyes roamed around at the other dragonets, staring hard at each in turn. "Yes, oh pristine one. I have to wear them. You will learn to accept them." Narisa smiled at the others that were here and moved towards them with Cepheith at her side. She recognized one of the girls, she thought. "How are you guys?" She asked, placing an arm over her dragonet in case Cepheith got it into her head (not like it wasn't already there) to go make double sure these dragonets knew who she was.
They know. Or should know. And if they don't, I shall remind them. She informed Hers dryly, watching Galith and Polarith intently.

Lina now, but yes she answered with a smile, looking over Polarith with a complimentary glance. You have a beautiful green - what's her name? she asked, having a natural tendency to normally only have to hear a name once and it was in her head. Rather handy, with as many names as stars had and how many stars there were in the night sky.
Galith held herself aloof as normal as her sister entered and trotted over, barely returning the gesture as Polarith rubbed up against her. You and yours are well? she offered to Polarith with the barest of courtesies. She really wasn't much of a conversationalist, but didn't want to be too rude. She paused slightly and looked over her sibling's shoulder as Cepheith entered. She bobbed her head in respect at the queen - she knew that one would accept nothing less. Feeling rather quiet with such a strong personality near, she merely sent a feeling of welcome to the young queen, not giving words to the emotions, however.
Lina turned to the girl - she hadn't yet met this one. Doing well. I'm Lina of green Galith over here she said, making the introductions and putting her hand on Galith's wing as the green took on a more submissive posture at the queen's approach.

N'var had spent most of his time after leaving the sands trying to console his baby sister. Much to his relief Novath had taken to her well, even doing a better job of comforting the small girl. He dressed in silence and walked over to sit by her side, petting her hair as she lay on his bed trying to calm her breathing. "It'll be alright. Novath and I know you'll impress. You just have to have the patience to wait for yours. And I know that she or he will be perfect for you, and worth every agonizing minute and all of the heartbreak you feel right now." She sniffled and nodded, slowly sitting up. She rubbed at her eyes and hung her head, slightly ashamed. "Will I see you later at the feast?" After a moment she nodded, pushing herself up and off the bed. "In a while. I need.....to clean up." He reached out and pulled her into his chest, kissing the top of her head. "Kyt. It'll be okay. Even if you don't impress, you'll always have Novath and I. We're here now. We won't leave you alone ever again. Okay?"
He walked her most of the way back to the candidate barracks, her hand held tightly in his. As they parted he gave it one last encouraging squeeze before smiling over to her. "Don't take to long to join the fun, eh?" Kytara smiled slowly and softly before nodding. "Alright." As she hurried down the hall he stood watching her, concern marring his features. He would have stood there all night if it weren't for Novath's intervention. The blue soon lost his patience and shoved the young man forward. Hurry. We must not be late. We will miss all of the fun. Alright. I'm going.
He gratefully accepted the riders knots, a blush staining his face as he looked around. He was a bit relieved to see that Nebulath and hers had not yet arrived. Carefully he made his way over to the other weyrlings. "Hullo!"

Mallan was still in slight shock but Asoth kept him distracted, moving from person to person as they walked along to the feast, nudging a hand here, bumping a leg there, always with a chirrup of greeting but also never further than a few steps from Mallan... well M'lan now. He couldn't help but chuckle at his big beautiful Brown, the shock of the initial Impression fading but the elation of it staying with him. He had to go over when Asoth got a little bit over the top in his greeting to a child though, newly hatched he may be but he was still much bigger than the poor boy he had all but pinned against a wall, crooning to the shaking youngster. "Don't worry, he's just trying to say Hello" explained M'lan, pulling at his dragon while smiling at the younger boy "Asoth, you're scaring the poor boy" he told Asoth sharply.
"I am? I didn't mean to..." turning to the boy Asoth backed up and sat on his haunches, crooning softly "I am sorry, i didn't mean to scare you but you are interesting and i wanted to say hello" he said to the boy, surprising M'lan since he didn't know that Dragons would speak so freely to others that they weren't bonded to.
"Asoth we had better get going or we will be late to the feast and that wouldn't be a good thing" said M'lan, turning to the boy he smiled again "I'm sorry about him, he's a little over friendly i guess" he admitted. "Late? oh no... that wont do... we can't be late come on M'lanmine we shall go and say hello to my mother and Hers" said Asoth rapidly, moving to hurry towards the dining hall with M'lan running behind him, trying to keep the big brown out of trouble.
Asoth spread his wings as he slowed into the doorway of the hall, walking right up to the Weyrwoman he bugled quietly in greeting, both to her and Brakiath "We are here, M'lanmine and myself, Hello you are bonded to my mother arent you? you smell nice" announced Asoth loudly, M'lan a few paces behind, blinking as he saw several faces turn to him, well mostly to his dragon who now had his nose buried in Abigail's skirts, sniffing at her clothes. "I apologise Weyrwoman Abigail he's been like it all the way here" he stated, laying his hand on the Browns head, Asoth in return turned his head carefully under the hand to encourage M'lan to rub his eye ridges. M'lan bowed low to the Weyrwoman as Asoth turned his attention to L'ton, sniffing at his clothes. "He doesnt smell as nice as the one bonder to my mother, maybe she could give him some of what makes her smell nice" he said to M'lan alone before bugling again, more loudly this time, letting everyone know he was here with His and they were coming to say hello to everyone.

Narisa smiled warmly at the girl who introduced herself as Lina. "Pleasure to meet you, Lina! And you too, Galith." She added with a smile for the green. "I'm Narisa of Gold Cepheith." Her gaze flicked down fondly to the gold leaning against her side now. "Oh, don't mind her. She's just grumpy because she's still hungry. And was probably picking up on the small bit of nervousness I haven't been able to shake since Impressing." She smiled a little sheepishly. "I have to admit, part of me keeps thinking this is a dream and I'm going to wake up to find m'self back at the vintner hall." The gold queen nudged Hers with a soft croon and blinked large eyes at green Galith. You are Galith? I am Cepheith! Narisamine keeps thinking I will poof and disappear. It is quite amusing.
Her attention was drawn towards another new rider that approached them. Oh she recognized that blue! He was the one that had gotten in a fight, right? "Hello there!" Narisa piped up cheerfully. "Don't think I've had the pleasure of meeting you before. My name is Narisa. And this is gold Cepheith." She patted the gold hide. Pleasure to meet you both, as Narisamine has said. The young queen was losing her mood the more Hers relaxed. But she was still hungry. Just slightly more interested in all the new people and greeting the other dragonets.
Both girl and dragonet turned in surprise at the loud bugle that came from by the entrance. Asoth! If you bugle any louder you might frighten some of the skittish! The young queen chirped back at the brown. His need to be the center of attention was amusing to her. Narisa had to laugh a little at him. I think he is quite possibly louder than I can be. Cepheith mused to Hers. Which only made Narisa laugh a little more.

She's a beauty Lina commented, indicating the wonderfully luminous Cepheith. Galith seemed distracted again, and Lina turned to see a boy and his rather gorgeous blue approaching. Hadn't that been the blue that had gotten in a fight? Lina rather thought it was, but he seemed to be in a better mood today. The boy, however, didn't seem all that happy. Whether Lina noticed this herself, or had taken the observation from Galith, she wasn't quite sure - it was so new an experience, after all, but it certainly wasn't something she normally would have noticed on her own. Must be Galith's influence, at which thought the dragonet seemed rather smug.
You okay over there, N'var? she asked, remembering him vaguely from the oiling lesson. He had been on the bronze though, not the green, but N'var seemed like it would be a good shortening of Navarre. Galith sent her wordless greeting to Novath, the same as she had sent to Cepheith - warm welcoming emotions without words. Though there was a bit of an undercurrent with this greeting - a seeming feeling of empathy, though certainly not sympathy. He didn't need that. While Galith might not have a temper, she was most certainly easy to misunderstand, and the two dragons had that in common. Galith flinched a bit when Asoth made his rather loud and obnoxious greeting. Lina cringed a bit as well - would the brown ever learn that not all places were stages to greet at the top of his lungs? The noise reverberated off the walls and rang in Lina's ears and she found herself gritting her teeth a bit.

"Hmm thats a nice way to shorten your name, perhaps i will shorten mine, but i haven't decided yet." Lilias answered Lina courteously. "Her name is Polarith." Lilias scratched her green's eye ridges and marveled at the soft hide. The green crooned under her hand her neck swaying with pleasure. Lilias smiled brilliantly, hers was so easy to please she thought happily. "A pleasure to meet you and your lovely Gallith."
We are well sister, and you and yours, are you well this night?
Lilias turned as the new gold rider and her glowing beauty strode up. She noticed Polarith dip her head to her golden sister as Gallith had done.
"We are well thank you and yourself?" Lilias gestured to include her and her green dragon. Polarith had started to hum.
It wasn't long before another dragon and rider joined their little group. Lilias inclined her head and greeted N'var and Polarith acknowledged the blue. "Good day N'var." Lilias greeted and waved.
The entrance of the exuberant brown seemed too much for her green and Lilias was soon overwhelmed with smothering waves of love that radiated to every dragon and bonded present. "Polarith, desist, someone is going to crash into a table or something if you blind them with love, do not make the others angry." Sheepishly Polarith bowed her head but continued to hum happily, and the waves of love ceased all but for the one that continued to batter her rider. Lilias' eyes crossed as she apologized and she swayed slightly, she reached out and had and Polarith supported her. "Sorry about that, she is excited that everyone is coming and she gets to meet you."

Optheli settled her lovely green in her wallow. "I'm off to wish the new riders congraduations. It shouldn't be too long." She rubbed the eyeridge and watched Dynith close her eyes. Satisfied the green wouldn't excessively worry, she headed to the lower caverns. She was glad all the dragons had safely hatched and impressed.
The greenrider brushed out her skirts and walked briskly to the party. She grinned as she looked over the new riders. Optheli nodded politely to the Weyrleaders as she passed. Walking randomly, she went to mingle with the crowd.

Cetalese and Halith, a hall or two away from the Hatching Feast, heard Asoth's bellow distantly bounce back to them. The Green immediately straightened up, her wings lifting slightly.
Others have already arrived! He is calling to let us know!
Who-- Halith! Ceta exclaimed as her dragonet took off at full run down the hall. Cetalese, for the second time in a day, hiked up her skirt and ran after the barreling Green, leaving Eliza and Velath behind.
"I'm sorry, Eliza!" She called back as she ran, hoping to get just a hand on her dragon before she reached the feast.
Halith! Halith, don't run!
Whether Halith was too caught up in her race to the dining hall to respond or just didn't want to, Ceta got nothing back but residual excitement. As Cetalese
Halith practically slid into the frame of the doorway as she tried to abruptly stop herself, and turned to the room beginning to fill with riders, weyrlings and the weyrling's dragonets. She took just a moment to look for the source of the bellow, long enough for Ceta to almost reach her, when she sat back on her hind legs and let out a bellow to almost match Asoth's in cheerful reply.
NO. Ceta thought as Halith dropped to all fours and looked to want to run again. She quickly moved herself in front of Halith, facing her dragonet so she could see how serious she was and block her way at the same time. No more running in the weyr. You'll hurt someone if you aren't careful.
From her face, no one would be able to tell that Cetalese was laying steel on the words. Observers would have to recognize it from the slowing whirling of Halith's eyes and their shift from green to yellow-green.
I don't want to hurt anyone! I just wanted to get here and greet the others.
I know. And we'll greet everyone, okay? Ceta promised, moving to Halith's side as the dragonet took a few steps into the room and resting her hand on Halith's head. One at a time.
That seemed to cheer her partner up, as Halith straightened and the green returned to her eyes. Okay.
At a fast trot, one that Ceta could keep up with by walking briskly, Halith completely bypassed everyone else in the room to get right up to Asoth as he and His were moving away from the Weyrwoman. She immediately let out a loud trill of excitement and after bumping her head under his chin she immediately tried to wriggle under his body in some strange approximation of a game.
"I'm sorry," Cetalese said immediately to M'lan, beginning to feel a little nervous about the kind of attention Halith might draw to them, and reached out to tug lightly on Halith's tail. What are you doing? That's not a game to play here.

Velath trilled encouragement to Halith as she took off barreling down the hallways with Cetalese in quick pursuit. "Don't encourage her" Eliza scolded her little green though there wasn't much force in her command...it was hard to be serious when she was trying not to laugh at her friend fleeing down the hallway..or imaging the chaos Halith might cause when she barreled into the middle of the feast.
'But it makes her so happy to run about!' Velath responded as they continued along the pathway 'Doesn't hers want her to be happy?'
"Of course she does but she doesn't want her to get hurt either" Eliza responded picking up their pace a little bit so that they wouldn't arrive to long after the others...Eliza didn't want to be the very last to arrive after all and by the growing sounds as they got closer she was pretty sure that there was already a fairly good sized crowd at the feast.
'Well she doesn't look hurt' Velath remarked as they came into sight of the feast doorway and saw Halith crawling around under the brown just a bit past the entrance...with Ceta looking like she was trying to pull her out. Yep her friend defintely had her hands full.
Pausing by the door she accept her shoulder knots with a cheery smile, showing them briefly to Velath before they were attached. Entering the feast together she made her way over to where Ceta was still trying to corral Halith. "Well...at least she's outgoing right?" She offered to her friend with a smile.
Velath on the other hand had gone over to see what Halith was doing and ducked her head down to peer quizzically at her.

Asoth was so happy, his Golden sister paid attention to him and not only that, after they had greeted the Weyrleaders, another of his clutch sibs imitated him and even sat up, he countered by rising up himself, to see her M'lan clinging to his neck trying to bring him down to ground level.
Here! over here!! he bugled again, M'lan's face got redder as he fought to bring his Brown down and stop him gathering so much attention "ASOTH .... stop please... you're so big and loud, you're going to get us in trouble he said sharply, surprised at how easily speaking in his head to Asoth was, he'd heard that some people had trouble at first. Asoth on the other hand, was only a little mollified, he stopped bugling but he kept up a quieter chirrup. When his Green sister bumped his chin he nudged back, being bigger than her he was a little more careful. He wriggled happliy as she tried to wriggle underneath him and he lifted his body up as high as he could to let her get under him. he was very happy, first he had gotten the Gold to talk to him and now another of his clutch was going to far as to be wriggling under him and eyes in the room were looking, could it get any better?!
"No, i'm sorry, he encouraged her .....he's been encouraging everyone along the way here" he said, his voice a little tired. He was nervous, excited and exhausted, the strain of the night meant he hadn't slept in the last day and the shock, the oh so happy thrill of being Asoth's ... and Asoth being his, forever. Things couldn't get better than this. He reached his hand out to shake the girl's, he couldn't quite place her name but he did recognise her from candidate lessons.
Asoth looked at the new green who was looking at the Green under him and he rumbled a deep greeting to her We are here, all of us found Ours, even those black ones, things are good aren't they, we should let everyone know how good it is he said happily, excitedly to Velath and Halith

"Maybe the red? It goes with your eyes, hu?"
"Rrrrrr." At his rider's comment Zetath cracked one eye open and raised his head a little. he grumbled
"Right, right, hurrying." Pulling on the red shirt Zerivon - ah, Z'iv - then located a pair of close fitting black britches and his best black leather knee boots. He pondered over what to do with his hair for a little while, but in the end he decided to just brush it and leave it loose. "C'mon then," he stooped to give his dozing lifemate a shake, "let's go... you not too tired?"
Zetath informed his bonded, getting to his feet and stretching. He was tired, but he was more hungry than he was tired and if needs be he could always rest once they got to the feast anyway.
"We won't be," Z'iv assured the little hatchling, "we've got time yet. We don't be the first there but that just gives us a chance to make an entrance, hu?"
Zetath just huffed to that, and as they approached the feast hall Z'iv found himself grinning broadly. It was weird, this other person inside his head. Weird and wonderful. That was dragons for you he supposed.
At the door, Z'iv accepted his knots from the weyrleaders with a flourishing bow before stepping into the hall properly and looking around for somebody to converse with.
