UPDATEI have just recently learned that Gimp is capable of doing Transparent gifs!!!
Next to each Layer name except the first layer of coarse you must type (replace) and then it will allow the image to have a transparent background.Ok this is a series of tutorial images on how to make a gif on gimp. This program works for simple movements (like ones that move and walk) unfortunatly it seems with gimp if the sprite moves it must have a white bg otherwise u see the things behind it >.>These are fairly detailed steps once u get used to it its pretty simple. Some of these are severly text heavy XD Underneith I will post some example materials for you to play with putting onto one whole gif. Feel free to post anything you make here I would love to see how it goes for you ^^ One tip for moving creature sprites if you don't want it to look off each time it resets here is a trick to use. Do them all in order like so then when you get to the last movement in the poses you go backward so for this one the numbers are 1 2 3 2 you don't need to post #1 again because that's where the gif will start again. If there are more slides then it may look like this 1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2 and so on. As long as you make sure to do them in the backward order it works out fine. Step 1Step 2Step 3Step 4Step 5Step 6Step 7Step 8Step 9Step 10

Ophelia Tex I Dont Like GIMP.... Its really hard for me to work on. crying Ill never get to do gifs crying well gimp is the program i use there are other programs Flash 8 For example and Also Holly Magi said this Everyone loves gifs, but their 256 color limitation is a bit troublesome. I'm trying to make animated pngs ( APNG), althought these appear as static pictures on Internet Explorer and Chrome(without the Chrome apng extension). Here is a list of software to make animated pngs. There is a GIMP apng plug-in as well.

I have a question.... Not sure if it's a quick answer or not, but everytime I go to paste an image on Gimp, the background is always Black or the back ground of the image I got it off of. Is this a quick fix? I've been trying to work it out for thirty minutes now, and cant find a solution sweatdrop

Is this a quick fix? I've been trying to work it out for thirty minutes now, and cant find a solution sweatdrop a lot of the time the problem is you have to copy the image from a place with a transparent background from a similar program for the bg to be plain. I think that's what you are asking or are you asking how to make a bg transparent in the first place? If you copy an image and it has a black or white bg you don't want then the best thing to do (if it was a png file) is to just use the want (fuzzy select) tool and click that bg then erase it with the eraser. (or select the bg then go to the bar at the top of the image and click select and scroll down to invert and then copy the image onto another document. (doing so you select only the image you want and you can then paste it onto a transparent document)

I figured it out with your help smile And here's the Raichu I was working on, now I just need to make it not such a large "white" square surounding it, as well as it not look like it's blinking at the begining :/ ANy tips on that? EDIT: SOrry, it's not showing :/ Here is the link though Raichu running

the blinking is because either at the beginning or the end of the gif you have a blank frame XD and the frame can be sized down simply with the crop tool (looks like an exacto knife and you just select an area with it and then click enter and only the area selected inside of the lighter area of the box will appear inside the image after you click enter ^^
