Whenever there is a large gathering of individuals, there is always a select few amongst the crowd who are looking to benefit by making a quick piece of gold or two. I doesn't matter if it's a celebration, a protest, a concert, there is always someone who will take to opportunity to benefit themselves. One of those such people is Rune. When he'd heard of the upcoming festival, he was practically salivating at the thought of the gold he might be able to make. Even though times had been rough, the man was sure that the high spirits of the festival would make even the poorest of men generous. Rune was looking to benefit. He'd saved his finest goods for a moment like these, so he packed up his trailer and headed to the festival. A ways from the centre of the gathering, but close enough that one could notice the banner from the crowd, the hawker set up his small stall, hoping to get some business. Rune's Menagerie The most wondrous and rare creatures available today! For the right price... The sign catches your eye. How intriguing! You make your way through the throng of others to the stall, but the sight before you lets you down. The stall is empty, though there is an abundance of cages of all shapes and sizes littering its area, but there are no creatures of any kind to be seen. Perhaps they have all been sold? Then out of the corner of your eye you notice a figure emerging from a very small trailer behind the stall, far too small to hold the figure, you notice. The figure makes its way over to the stall where you can finally see them. There stands a tall, skinny man with a ragged beard and even more ragged clothing. He smiles at you from behind the counter. " 'ere to buy an animal? No problem, I've got a whole bunch! Yer'd be lucky to 'ave any of 'em, in fact! Why don't we play a game." He says and reaches under the stall. He pulls a small bag into view and places it on the top of the stall with a flourish, as if it was the most exquisite thing he'd seen. "In 'ere are a bunch o' numbers. I've got 14 animals to sell today, so there's 14 numbers in the bag. Whichever number ya pull out is the animal ya get!" He beams at his statement. "10 pieces o' gold for a draw. No trades, returns or refunds! Once the animal touches yer 'ands we're no longer responsible." He leans over the counter to you with a twinkle in his eye, "So, would ya like to 'ave a go?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OOC Stuffs Okay, so here's the story. I have a bunch of lineart lying around on my harddrive that I'm never going to open shop with. But I don't want to waste it all! So I've come up with this little thread to give away some pets to your Edel characters, if they're inclined to buy a token from Rune.
- There's currently 14 pets colored that I have to give away. - They're not all the same species, and each one is uniquely colored. - Everything is free. The gold is just IC gold. This is just for fun and not for profit! - If you want to have a go, simply make a post approaching the stall and wanting a token. - When you post, randomize a number between 1 and 14. The number you get will correspond to the pet you get! - Then I'll reply with a post and picture of the pet you've won. - These also have certs to go with them, so make sure you think of a name! - If you randomize a number that has already been picked, then the next closest number is the pet you get. - You can enter as many times as you like. XD - If you want to know more about the pet you got, feel free to talk to Rune, he's more than happy to blabber. :3 - The coloring on these is not omgamazing. xD;; I'm not the greatest colorist, but I hope you enjoy them anyway. - If you get an egg, try playing around with it in the thread! It just might hatch...
I think that's it! I hope this is fun! (:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cert Pick Up

Arctang caught sight of the booth and drifted over to listen. He pondered spending his money on something so frivolous, but ended up shrugging. Festivals like this were made for such silliness. Perhaps it could be a companion for the floox he'd caught earlier.
"Alright, I'll try my hand," he spoke up, stepping forward. He dug in a pants pocket for the required amount and set it on the table. He hadn't pulled the duplication trick this time. So far as he could tell, this man was an honest merchant, and he'd not cheat any hard-working individual. "Let's see what I get!" Gamely he stuck his hand in the bag and pulled out one of his favorite things... a Number!

Lisana watched the empty boxes. What pets was this fellow talking about? Invisible ones? She blinked. Oh! She wanted one of those. It would be great fun at a party if she could get it to sneak up on people.
"I'll take one!" she said, holding out her 10 gold coins to the man. She giggled in excitement. This was fun.

For Tal"Ladies and gentle-mans, we 'ave our first customer!" Cried Rune to the crowd as the man stepped forward. Almost as soon as the money had been set out the merchant snatched it up and placed it into a small bag tied to his waist and watched to see what number he would pull. "Aha! You got a 1 there my good sir. Let me just go fetch ya prize." The man then ran off into his small trailer. Moments later he returned holding something in his arms. It was about the size of a medium sized dog, but it certainly didn't look like one. It had a beak and seemed to be covered in feathers and fur. At the sight of the crowd it seemed to start making noise in it's excitement, strange noises, like a cross between a click and a bark. "This here be a Guardian. She's a calm lass. Enjoy!" He said as he handed the pet over to the man.

For EftNo sooner had he retrieved one pet for a customer, there was another one waiting. Excellent! He thought as he swiped up the gold once more and placed it in his bag. "You got a 14 there missy. Lemme go fetch yer creature." He scurried off to the trailer before emerging holding an rather large egg. "Err, I hope you enjoy it." He said hastily, handing it over far to quickly. Whatever it was, he sure seemed glad to be rid of it.

He accepted the armful of fur and feathers with surprise. This was an unusual looking critter, but seemed friendly enough. He stood for a moment, slightly stunned, though he couldn't have said what he'd expected instead. He might actually have to train this pet to not eat the floox. In fact, that was a good point. He took a breath to ask several questions, but just then someone else put money down on the table.
He glanced over to see the lovely goddess of Laughter. It was a surprise and a pleasure to see someone he knew, though he was juggling a wriggly chick-pup. He wished he could set the guardian down, but that was another question he needed to ask the vendor. So he waited patiently as Lisana plucked a number out, ironically the last number in contrast to his, and the egg was produced. Deciding he'd get another chance to talk with Lisana, he chose to ask his questions first before greeting his fellow deity.
"Pardon me sir," he addressed Rune, "but I have some questions. Do I need a leash for her or... something?" He glanced over the critter uncertainly, not sure if a collar would damage the feathers around the youngster's head. "Also, what do guardians eat?" He waited with trepidation, hoping he wasn't going to have to always feed her raw meat, but willing to take the responsibility, should that be the case.

Laughter watched Arctang a moment. She laughed. "I like that." she said to Rune winking at him before turning back to Arc. "You got a piebirddog, I like it."
Lisana took the egg, staring at it for a long moment. It was definitely NOT invisible like she had thought. Then her lips twitched upwards and she giggled harder. "I knew my jokes were bad sometimes, but I've never laid an egg before."
The bubbles surrounded her as she cradeled it. "I'm guessing it's a mystery egg, so.. maybe Taj knows what it is. I'll ask him." She would be sure to ask Mystery just such a question when she got the chance. "Thank you. I'll take good care of it, whatever it is."
At least this one she did not have to feed, water, or walk. Just keep it from breaking which meant she'd have to warn Arlecchino about juggling it like she did everything else this size.

With the egg out of his hands the Merchant looked somewhat relieved. He scanned the crowd for more customers but there seemed to be none around just at the moment. He gave a good natured laugh at the goddess' comment, intrigued by her bubbles.
"Please! Ask away my good sir." He grinned, happy to answer any questions that his buyers had.
"A leash? No no no. These guardians are very loyal. You can see it's bonded with you already." He said with a nod as the bird-dog gave it's new owner a friendly n**. "It knows you are hers, so it wont run off or anything like that."
"As fer food, well, I've never seen something it wont eat if that answers yer question." The man gave a scowling look to the animal, recalling several pairs of socks that had gone missing in its presence.

"My my." Yumeh saw people gathering around one of the stalls, and as soon as he saw what exactly it is that was offered, he felt Tista's excited tug. You're like a kid, aren't you..? But hey, it's a celebration, and the price isn't too big.. why not entertain his friend, and himself as well while we're at it? And the people before him seemed quite happy with their prizes, so-
Okay okay. He approached the table, and put the coins on it before reaching into the bag for his number. "I hope luck's still with me, and not off to watch something else~ Now what do we have here.."

"Another customer!" Rune said excitedly. This was certainly worth the trip. The merchant hoped he would soon sell all his goods and be on his way. Rune snatched the gold as soon as the man placed it on the table then watched to see what number he would retrieve. "Aha, 12! You'll like what I've got fer ya..." He scurried away to his trailer again. Was this where he kept all these creatures? It was awfully small... and if he still had 11 more inside... He soon emerged cradling a sleeping something in his arms. It was roughly the size of a large house cat, although it was obvious the creature was only young. "Here ya go sir, a nice little Dheln for yer." He said as he passed the blue creature, still asleep, over to his third customer.

It was later when Hatim approached the stand. He'd been enchanted by the little bird-dog that Arctang had brought back to the rooms. At first he had hesitated to ask for the gold to try for one himself, but his master... no, his teacher.... had seen something was on his mind. After coaxing the truth from him, Arc had surprised Hatim by being supportive of the idea.
So now, gold in hand, the teenager approached the strange man. "E-excuse me," he began. It was strange, doing something for himself alone. He reminded himself that though he was doing this for himself, he was not alone. Nor was he a slave any longer. In fact, he served one of the gods themselves. He straightened his back a bit and spoke up again. "I'd like to try for one, please." No need to be rude, after all. He couldn't imagine the god of Numbers being pleased with him for making haughty demands and not saying please.
He set hs gold down for the merchant and reached into the bag. What would he be granted?

Rune watched as the young boy approached. Was a parent around to consent? Rune didn't care, he was eager to exploit and sell things to anyone he could, no matter their age. "Yes lad, step right up!" He beamed. He took the money and watched to see what number the boy would draw. "A seven!" Rune announced to the crowd that had gathered to watch, before running off to his little trailer. Moments later he emerged, tugging something by a thick piece of rope. The creature resembled a deer fawn, though it was slightly different in appearance. The dark animal appeared to be very wary of it's surroundings, it's wide eyes darting about, and it's large ears flicking back and forth. "An Ustk for you me lad. Don't worry, he may seem a bit shy, but he'll warm up to you in time no doubt." Rune said as he handed the piece of rope over to the young boy.

Gentle-hearted Hatim immediately enfolded the young thing in his arms, murmuring reassurances into those large ears. "Don't you worry, noone will hurt you, I promise. Just you let them try. We'll take good care of you, and you'll never need to be scared again. I remember what it's like to be scared, but there's noone to be afraid of where I live." Hatim turned shining eyes upon the animal vendor. "Thank you sir! He's wonderful!"
Carefully, trying not to frighten the creature anymore, he began to tug on the rope and coax the dark critter towards the main Pantheon building. He paused before going more than a few steps and looked back at Rune. "What kind of creature is he?" he asked, stroking his new pet's ears lightly, standing close to him in support and protection.

Rune didn't seem to care that the young boy showed compassion and warmth to the animal. In truth, the merchant was just happy to have sold it, and would have been happy to sell it to whomever had drawn it's number.
"It's an Utsk boy. They're deer like creatures with some mystical properties." He nodded, but didn't give anymore information, turning his attention back to the crowd and away from the boy.
