I was watching Logo because they're doing a lot of romance movies this weekend. (Logo is, for those who do not know, a queer TV network, and they show a lot of good movies XD) yeah... so anyways, watching Moulin Rouge and it goes to commercials and I'm sitting and I hear an interview of someone saying how it wasn't fair that people who weren't white heterosexuals or protestant really in America were labeled by the others. And he was going on about this and I'm like, "Hmn... cool person." I turned and looked and it said across teh screen Director: Joel Schumaker! (I so spelled that wrong)
Edit: Haha, I just realized he was there because he's gay... So's Howard McGillan... I heart upon Howard.

How random is that? XD How neat. I have respect for the guy as a Director.
And I think his last name is spelled Schumacher.

Anyways, I really respect him as a person and a director too. Plus I envy the way he's all awesome at working with music-heavy material. (The first film I saw that he did was Lost Boys, and albeit very very cheesy, it came from the 80s so what can you expect? So yeah, that was so rock and roll heavy... and apparently that movie was why ALW wanted JS to do PotO.)

Wow, I feel that I'm the only one who has a negative slant on my view of JS. Sure, that mention of his political view makes me think better of him as a person but as a director, ehh, I dunno. I mean, ALW's musical of PotO was a huge hit (not having seen it, I cannot judge for myself, so I judge based on what I hear,) but the movie, let's face it, sucked. This leads me to believe that JS had some part in messing it up, since he was the major new controlling force on the movie. He just got the story and the music from ALW.
So I don't exactly trust JS. I never saw any other of his movies, so I can't say anything other than that. But ehh. It's my conclusion.

Um.. *blinkblink* I LIKED the movie, from a cinematic stand point it was ******** incredible. It was nominated for an Oscar for cinematography for crying out loud, and lost to the Motorcycle Diaries I think... that movie was just bad. Anyways the shooting and editing of it was damn beautiful, just coming from an aspiring film maker. I showed the trailer to my teacher who is a world known filmmaker and she was impressed. (Mind you, I really do not like the musical at ALL. I like to see the acting and hear the music, but the plot makes me wanna roll over and cry.) If you see the Lost Boys keep in mind- it's from the 80s. Basically these kids and their mom move into a new town with their grandpa and all these insane vampires are there. Lots of good rock and roll in the movie though. Hell the opening theme was a cover of "People are Strange" and that is a damn good song.

True dat. I read another negative review on the 2004! movie again (although this one was amusing becuase it called Gerald Butler and Patrick Wilson complete fops while praising Emmy Rossum saying that it was "hard for her talent to shine when sorrounded by such dimwits") and it said the only thing to give it credit for was the cinematography and the costumes and when I was watching the movie most of my attention was basically on the costumes*, ESPECIALLY during the masquerade scene. So yeah...I had a ball *pun intended*
*side note: I actually had a friend that cried out in dismay during the Lair scene when Emmy went into the water with her wedding gown becuase she couldn't imaging why anybody wearing such a beautiful dress would want to get it wet xd

Hey! I saw another Joel interview on Logo. He was saying like "Just accept people as the present themselves to you, if they say they're straight but you think they're gay whatever leave them alone they're straight. I know of some high schools where it's fashionable to be gay and most of them are not gay but let them say they're gay if they wanna."

The man did a good job with the musical, but he overdid his romanticism view on the story by adding young actors and LUST of all things holy into that film! I can understand Erik being a lusty old coot, but Christine! Yeesh! That and I really REALLY do not like Webber because of his accessory to murder with Forsyth for that book I will never mention. It's not Joel's fault Webber sent Butler after him with intent to hypnotise him (ref. to that crazy a** easter egg on the DVD) and ruin yet another aspect of every Phan's adoration. Mind you, I like the film just cuz. But if I wanted to be a stick in the mud, I would.

Four words for you... Nipples on the Batsuit.
As a person he sounds decent enough, but as a director I absolutely hate Schumacher. Lost Boys was the only decent movie he ever did, partly because it's the only one that isn't 90% eye candy. Bah...
And actually, the young actors and making everything lusty and sexy was Schumacher's idea. He only signed on if he could have a 'young and sexy' cast. Lecherous old leprechaun troll beast...
Yes indeedy, I dislike Joel Schumacher.

Ugh Dude the reason they wanted a YOUNG Christine was NOT the sex aspect... it was the aspect that Christine has NEVER HAD A RELATIONSHIP before... she has this whole innocent girl appeal that should have been there and they ******** up trying to do that but Emmy said it in her interview there is a transition in Christine from girlhood to womanhood.... um... get your minds out of the gutter

I believe in the documentary they made they mentioned that most people who were familiar with the POTO were the people who had grown up with it so making this movie was a reinvention of the broadway production, aiming it at adolescents and personally I think that worked becuase the story is about love as much as about passion and if you have a fifty year old man singing to a thirty year old woman, no matter how perfect they're voices, popularity amongst the younger generation is going to be "Ew....they're old..." (despite the consequence of having them young is "HOMGTHEPHANTOMISTEHSEX!")

I mean I started with the movie then I got into Broadway and the book and the older movies and... now people can't get me to shut up... and it also plays a big part in my relationship.

Grrr... Gerry was good. And I'm not saying that because he's "hot". I liked his style. He was also very expressive.
P.S. - I just realized Joel was on Logo because he IS gay.
P.S.S.- So's Howard McGillan who is my favorite phantom... no wonder he screams like a girl
