My mom recently went through my stuff. She said it was because she was "throwing away junk", but I don't believe her. When she went through it, she found my diary. And read it. I have things in there about my depression, suicide attempts, everything. [Which no, I'm not proud of.] She's telling me I need help and...
How do I tell her I'm fine? I don't want to go to a "rehabilitation center for the mind" I'm scared... I don't want to end up there the rest of my life. How do I tell her to back off?

Well she shouldn't have read your diary...but if you are depressed and what not just ask her to see a psychologist like once a week or something.

The thing is I don't NEED one. I'm perfectly fine. I mean, it's not going to help my depression if I talk to some stranger about my life.

You would be surprised. It helped me to talk to someone who's "unbiased"

So what am I supposed to do? Tell my mother to send me to a psych instead, then watch as he feeds her what I tell him? Because that's what landed my best friend in a ward, too.

Their not supposed to tell parents what you say if their a good psychologist. If you attempted suicide then you do need some help and you probably should talk to someone

Legally, they can't tell your parents what you've said or recommend that you should be placed in a psych ward unless you're deemed a danger to yourself and to those around you. They're not going to immediately lock you up and throw away the key. But since you did have suicidal thoughts/attempted suicide, I would strongly suggest going to see a therapist.

I'm scared of going, though. Even if only to a psych. I'm really terrified. I don't like talking about my life, myself, or anything, because I'm basically told I need to shut up and stop complaining. What if he does that? And... I don't know. I just don't think I need help. I mean, yes, I should stop cutting. It's not good. I know. But, I've been clean for a while, so I'm helping myself.

I don't think he would tell you to stop complaining. I think you have a lot of pent-up anxieties that you need to air, and I'm of the mind that talking to a therapist would do you some good on that front. That being said, therapy isn't for everyone. What I do think is that you should at least try to talk to the therapist, give it a few months, and if you truly think you can get better on your own, then talk with your mother about it.
But like I mentioned, I think therapy would be very beneficial for you. Therapists are there to help you, not pass judgement on your life. And I mean that in a supportive way.

They won't tell you that. They're there to help. They won't make you talk about anything you're not comfortable with. But it will help to open up. Even if doesn't happen immediately. But once you trust them and tell them what you need to tell them it will all be worth it.

Glass of Orange Juice The thing is I don't NEED one. I'm perfectly fine. I mean, it's not going to help my depression if I talk to some stranger about my life. You're wrong. I have been going to a psychologist for a really long time it it's always helpful! Once you go there a few times he or she will be like family!

Well... since you all say it's better than what I think it is, I'll try. But the next problem is trying to persuade my mom to get me a psych instead. How do I do that?

I would recommend trying to have a mature conversation with her. Start off with something along the lines of, "You've suggested that I get some help for my depression, and I was wondering what you thought of the idea of me going to see a psychologist?" Since she's spoken of her concerns for you, I don't think that if you're the one suggesting the idea that she'll be adverse to it.

The problem with my mom is once she's set with an idea, she's set. No going back. And she doesn't like it when "people tell her what to do", and I'm thinking if I ask her about it, she'd get defensive and shut me out completely. Of course, I could be wrong, but I don't know.
Even if I ask her about it like you suggested, she might take it the wrong way.

Well, if you don't ask, you can't get the help that you need. If she really wants you to get help, I don't think she'll get all that defensive. It's worth a shot. Just remember to be calm about it, and present it in a mature manner.
