User ImageIt was blistering hot yet Xennek continued his run. Despite the drought he was pushing himself to train at any odd hour. As it was it was afternoon, one of the hottest times of the day, and many might consider him insane for pushing himself so in this situation. But it was just the way he was. Panting for air the large lion finally slowed down to a stop and glared up at the sky. Sheesh. It was just getting worse. He frowned as he noted how the trail of paw prints he had left behind in his run was getting shorter by the day. It was bad enough that he had just recently joined this pride with the refugees, but for a drought to hit at the same time?

He had a real stroke of luck there.

Xennek let out a low chuckle. That was fine. The tougher it was the more he enjoyed it. Still the pride was hurting and he wanted to help. As much as a challenge might be appreciated, it wasn't good when some were on the verge of dying. The lion looked around. Was there anything else he could do besides these runs out in the desert to look for water? He was no water seeker, but a warrior and this restlessness was about to drive him insane. No one was in the mood to duel only bicker about what should be done concerning the remaining water and finding more. The thought made him chuckle again. Who said that finding a pride would make life easier? Compared to this mess the rogue lands could be seen as a nice dream. Turning the lion looked back towards the direction he had come running from. Should he head back already or continue looking about a bit? His dark blue gaze surveyed the endless dunes of sand. “If I was a drop of water where the hell would I go to out here?” Better yet where would a whole lot of water be?

Azar had been not exactly running around the desert. It wasn't smart, especially since she was sharing her water with her cubs. Each of her cubs got water but she shared her's with them. She could manage on left. Even though at times Azar seemed cold and unfriendly she was pretty caring, and she was even pretty friendly to a point. She had grown a lot since she was younger. She was much calmer, but she was still a fighters and she was still more then willing to do anything around the pride that was needed for her to do. Including this. She was wandering around the pride, trying to help however she could. She wasn't much of the water seeker, however she was trying to make sure that there was no one laying out dead in the desert trying to find water.

Or at least thats what she was doing today. she was doing as many jobs as possible. She wasn't going to be help with whatever she could that was all to it. She flicked her tail around as she wandered, she spotted a male and she wandered in his direction. She wasn't exactly going to talk to him but she was going to head past him and see if there was anyone beyond him wanting help. She wasn't sure where everyone was but there could be some one beyond him that was for sure. She didn't want to miss anyone that could be just laying around or hurt. She didn't want to see what happened to Zii happen to anyone else.

She paused as she heard the male speak. She arched a brow before chuckling quietly at his question and moving up beside him shaking her head. "Isn't that what we all want to know." She commented before she started to wander a little past him scouting out in front of her trying to figure out where she was going to go next before speaking again. "Never in my life have I seen anything like this. Water is tricky I guess." She shook her head. She just wated all of this to be over. She felt like the firekin was always given some kind of difficultly left at their doorstep. Once one was gone another came creeping up behind it.

He was so focused on trying to figure out the dunes of sand and finding a new direction that he never even realized that he wasn't the only one out here. Startled his gaze turned towards a darker lioness. But he recovered quickly enough from his surprise to grin at her. At least his question could amuse someone out here. Though the reality behind it was still a morbid thing. How much longer could they survive with the water evading them? Already everyone was tense about the rations of water being given out. Cubs were sickly and soldiers weak both were important to the pride, but it seemed that at this rate one would have to be choosen over the other. Even he didn't know what to support anymore.

"I would say so." He chuckled, pushing the darker thoughts aside for the moment. Dwelling on them would lead to nothing good. He was not one to linger on the bad, but rather focus on pushing things towards the better. Always an optimist.... of sorts. Still he paused at her comment before smiling, "Well it's good to know that this doesn't happen often then since I take it that you've lived here for a while? Shame that I came at such a time then. Must have some god awful luck followin' me." The male shook his head before appearing more serious, "It is tricky indeed considering how many of us have been wandering this barren place searching. I wonder how much longer it can hide from us? I say we all start beating this desert senseless before it gets the best of us." His gaze lightened despite the severity of his actual worries, "Be a shame to lose face to some piles of sand."

Azar shook her head stubbornly, she acted almost as if she had known the male for all of her life. "It is not one of us that brought this upon the pride." She knew what he was saying was a joke but at the same time she didn't like that talk either way. She didn't want to hear it. She wasn't sure why this was happening to them but she knew that it was impossible for it to be some one's fault. But she wanted it to end. She flicked her tail around behind her before turning to the male. "I've lived her all of my life." she chuckled. "don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly old, but I have a litter of mostly grown cubs." she looked down at her paws before back out at the desert in front of her. "I really haven't seen anything like this. I mean, yeah I've seen things happen here that aren't in our best luck but I have never seen this." She shook her head once again.

She paused flicking around her tail before speaking again. "I know we can beat this." She said stubbornly. "We are firekin after all." She added to the statement, she wasn't about to give up and she knew many of the pride just wouldn't give up. She smiled and then looked at the male. "I think you are brave to come at this time. Very brave."

Xennek looked surprised by her comment. “Oh? Well that’s good news then.” He sighed, however, and gave her a small smile, “Thanks.” He could tell that she was troubled by the drought just as everyone else was. The lion listened to her and gave a low chuckle. No exactly old, eh? He just shook his head before nodding, “So this isn’t your average dry period then.”

The thought was rather depressing.

Because then who could tell for certain if the rain would ever come or if there was water left out here in this harsh land? The idea was aggravating. To go through so much to come here only to watch the pride flicker away to nothing but a legend. Though as Xennek got more and more familiar with the firekin he could feel that this pride was not going to go down without a fight. They would dare to even challenge nature itself. Azar’s comment strengthened that thought and Xennek smiled. “That’s good to hear.” He commented before laughing at her comment, “Brave? Possibly. I’ve been told that I’m either that or very foolish.” He paused and spoke sincerely then, “But I hope to think that one must be really brave to come here no matter what the situation is. Firekin are legendary warriors and I highly doubt that they let in any one who is not worthy enough to join their ranks. For that then I am grateful to claim this pride for a home.”

Azar nodded at the male and then flicked her tail around behind her and then chuckled a little bit. "Well, I guess you could say that it was a pretty good idea." She said simple before nodding to him once again looking forward thinking. She hated it when the pride wasn't in the best condition ad she knew that it wasn't in the best condition right now. She wanted everything to get back to normal, she really wanted it back to normal more then anything else. She hated feeling this helpless feeling that she could do something and do it at the moment and fix all of it so it would be better. But she knew it wouldn't work, she knew she couldn't do it.

"This really isn't the average dry spell, it really isn't. Normally we might have to cut back on the water a little however not that much." She shook her head at the idea; this really wasn't the normal, she didn't like it when things changed like this. "I woudln't say foolish really, however I do feel it is a little odd to find you here when the drought just started. She said with a small chuckle once again before looking forward "It means you're even more of an honorable firekin."
