Cooking and baking were fun, but not so much when you were alone. At least, not nearly as enjoyable as it could be--Xiu had been spoiled by those last few times that she had invited friends over to bake spookies or make lunch. Everything seemed to take so much longer when she was alone, from measuring out ingredients to waiting for the oven to bake her creations. There was no silly giggling or fun chatting to be had.

...Well, she had tried with Arashi, her pet Storm Melonkit, but the feline had merely yawned and walked away. Thanks for the enlightening conversation, Arashi.

She absolutely itched to do some baking today--she had found a new recipe book in the library that was full of a variety of tasty desserts--but there was no one she could ask to help her. Everyone happened to have plans that day, so her only options were either to bake alone, or to find someone new. While she tended to be a little timid when it came to interacting with strangers, Xiu was that desperate to find a baking buddy for the day. But...where could she possibly look?

The answer came to her after a bit of thinking: the Home Eek room! Where else? It only seemed natural that those who liked to cook or bake would be found in there. Locking her room behind her, Xiu made her way towards the main school building and weaved through all the hallways. When she finally made it to the Home Eek room, the little Baku took a deep breath and poked her head in.

"H-hello...?"

Ahhh, the home eek room. Since Bea's dorm room is basically a giant aquarium with furniture, her underwater living has no practical space for her to own a kitchen. She already has a hard time trying to keep her computer down there. At any rate, Bea had to find some place to enjoy cooking and baking. What's a better place than the academy's home eek room?

The one thing that relaxes her and a fun pastime is baking. There was something special about baking, however. Though Bea doesn't need to eatto survive, seeing that she's a ghost and all, but the fact that it gives her a great feeling of warmth when she bakes. Not just the temperature! She can't explain the feeling, but its... comfortable and loving.

Standing in the middle of the room, Bea is unsure where to start. She had all the pans and utensils laid out in front of her, but no recipe or anything to work off of. She was too lazy to find the library again, at risk to get lost and not be able to find her way back. When all of a sudden a hesitant, soft-spoken, mouse-like voice had been heard over by the door. Bea quickly turned her head to find a very adorable ghoul.

"Oh~!" Bea said with a surprised tone, "c-come in!" waving her hand to the ghoul to come over. "Are you looking for someone? It's just me in here at the moment. I guess there is no class or clubs going on right now."

Xiu blinked at the other ghoul a bit nervously, pausing at the door to take in her appearance, trying to recall if they had ever met before. After a moment, the Baku determined that the other ghoul didn't seem very familiar, but she certainly seemed kind enough. Smiling nervously, she took a few steps into the room, her tail giving a little wave as she stopped to glance around. It looked as if the two of them were the only ones present in the Home Eek room at the moment.

At the question, Xiu shook her head quickly. "N-no, um, I'm not looking for anyone in particular!" Not exactly, anyways. She was searching for someone to bake with but...now that she was actually here and speaking to a stranger, she wondered if it would be too awkward to suddenly ask. It would certainly seem as if her question came out of the blue. Fortunately, she found something that caught her attention, and that could be used as a preface to her question--baking pans and various utensils were laid out on the counter before the other ghoul.

"Are you going to bake something?" Xiu asked, her ears perking up slightly. With a bit of hesitation, she moved closer, tilting her head to the side when she noticed there was no recipe book by the rest of the tools. Baking from memory, perhaps?

Her tail gave another little wag as she looked up at the other ghoul. "W...what are you going to make, if I may ask?"

Bea's eyes glimmered with joy when she the ghoul seemed interested in what she was baking. Looking back at her station, she tilted her head and sighed at the pan, "Well... Not exactly. I want to bake something but I haven't decided on what." Bea picked up a veggie carrot and examined if it was good and healthy, "Maybe a carrot cake perhaps?" She turned back to the ghoul and noticed she had a book clutched in her arms. Hope at last! "Actually, I'm at a lost for recipes. For some reason I can't seem to remember which order do I mix the ingredients and how long does it bake for. I see you have a recipe book! Mind if I take a look at it?" Bea stretched out a hand to take the book from her then another idea hit her, "OH! How about you join me? You like baking right? I could use the help! My name is Beatrix by the way. You can call me Bea for short if you like nicknames."

She was startled when the other ghoul reached a hand out, and it took her a moment to completely process what it was she wanted. "O-oh! Yes! Of course!" Hastily, Xiu held her book out towards her, but she only held out the book halfway when she froze. Was she...was she really being offered to help? While this was what the Baku had wanted in the first place, she hadn't expected for anyone to ask her--she thought that she was the one who would have to do the imposing.

"M-may I really?" She blinked, wide-eyed, before a smile spread over her face. "I'd enjoy that! And...and it's nice to meet you, Bea! I'm Xiu-Ying, though I typically just go by Xiu." Placing the recipe book down on the counter beside the rest of Bea's baking equipment, the ghoul clasped her hands together and offered a small bow.

Looking back up, she turned her gaze towards the ingredients that had been laid out, humming thoughtfully. "If...if it's a carrot cake you want, I think I have a couple of options in this book and memorized."

"Excellent~!" Bea clapped her hands together in excitement, "Thank you so much Xiu!" Bea took a few steps over to give some room to Xiu to work at the station. She sorted out the ingredients and made sure everything was ready. Xiu mentioned she might be able to help with the recipe. Bea smiled at the ghoul, "Sounds wonderful! Maybe you should get us started!" she hands Xiu the mixing bowl and a few ingredients laid in front of her.

"Umm... Well, let's see here..." Bea cocked her head to the side, furrowed her eyebrows, and closed her eyes for a bit. She almost immediately lifted her head back up to look at Xiu again, "Say, you don't happen to be a new student are you?" Bea was hoping that they could get to know each other while they begin baking... to break any tension or awkwardness...

Warmth rose in her cheeks and she quickly shook her head. "N-no, thank you for letting me join!" As the tools and ingredients were put in front of her, she hummed thoughtfully. "We'll need...about three cups of grated carrots," She mused, looking around for a grater, "And...and did you want icing on the cake too?" Overall, this recipe wouldn't be too hard!

Surprised by the question, Xiu began to nod before she stopped herself. New? She...wasn't really all that new anymore, was she? "N...not really, I guess? I arrived a few months ago." She didn't recall seeing Bea around though, beyond here and there in the hallways. "And you? Are you new here?"

Flipping open the recipe book, she trained her finger down the page until she found the measurements that she was looking for. Egg, oil, sugar...this recipe would probably take them an hour to bake at most.

Bea grabbed the carrots, washed them thoroughly under water and began to casually grate them, "Not a problem! I could use a friend to help make some delicious cake!" As she managed to get a cup of grated carrots to Xiu, "I actually am a new student here. I just enrolled about a month ago and waiting for classes to start..." Bea dumped two more cups of carrots into the mixing bowl. "Though I met some students already! I started a campaign booth for Student Council, but it got destroyed unfortunately..."

Bea began to stare at the mixing bowl. Tears were beginning to form just thinking about her hard work being smashed by that fearados. Bea quickly turned away to wipe her tears and looked back at Xiu with a smile. "...Anyway! Icing sounds yummy!" Bea pondered for a bit. So many flavors of icing, but which to make? "Why don't you choose?"

As she measured out all the ingredients they needed, Xiu listened intently as the other ghoul spoke. A campaign booth, hm? She had been there where all the booths were suddenly destroyed, and the memory of the booth she was in just crumbling...well, it wasn't a very good memory. She could definitely understand why Bea seemed upset as she recalled that event.

"I'm sorry," The baku's ears and tail drooped slightly, and she paused at her task to look over at her, "I...I'm sure you made a good impression on those who came by, though! Good luck at the elections!" As of now, Xiu still didn't know who she would vote for. She supposed she would just have to wait and see.

As for the matter of the icing...well, it was a tough choice. "I-I'm not sure. They're all pretty good, I think." Knitting her brows, she gave a little shake of her head. How were they supposed to decide?

Having spend the last few days since joining the academy Harriet had spent her hours in the Library, this of course had depleted her supply of ginger biscuits and she was not that uncivilised that she'd take afternoon tea with some form of sweet so it was she had taken the afternoon off to do some baking. Harriet had opted for medium sized rooms, which included a large living space to house her personal collection of books, branching off the main room was a small functional bedroom and next to that a small bathroom which had enough room for a free standing roll topped Victorian style bath but she had no kitchen, she was quite happy to share the functional space of a communal kitchen. Whilst a communal kitchen shared between three or four others was fine it was not practical for baking, baking was therapeutic and the chance of another student coming into the communal kitchen and needing to use certain equipment was common so Harriet was on the search for a larger space that perhaps was used for teaching, that would allow her to bake in peace.

Leaving the Reapers dorms she headed to the central heart of the academy where she'd likely find a suitable room. She had little idea of the layout of the central maze of rooms but she walked with a defiant purpose that suggested otherwise. She was walking by one room when she heard a familiar clatter of cooking utensils and she stopped to look in through the door. The room was a large space and looked like it could possibly be used for teaching numerous students thus it was the perfect space even with the to other ghouls that were presently occupying it. With that Harriet stepped in through the door, didn't greet the other two, she simply looked for a bench she'd like to work upon and then swung off to a bench behind the other two and began to set herself up in the corner of the room.

Now Harriet couldn't function without a cup of tea to hand so digging out her tea pot, teacup and saucer, strainer and a small wooden box containing her loose tea leaves she rested them to one side of her space whilst she set a kettle to boil. Harriet had little need for a recipe to make ginger biscuits, they were her favourites and she had made them so many times before she could almost do it with her eyes closed, she knew it so well she didn't need to weigh out the quantities of the nine ingredients needed, of course sometimes it was ten depending on whether she fancied putting in small chunks of crystallised ginger, though she generally preferred though simply without. She began to empty the contains of her leather satchel and gather up her ingredients in front of her, she methodically placed everything out in place and stared at everything in regimented order, though it'd not stay that way, she was a messy cook.

The kettle clicked and she turned to begin making herself a pot of tea. Whilst she waited the 5 minutes to let it brew she placed both hands on the bench top and stared down her nose and over the top of her glasses at the two ghouls in front of her and then stared at the array of ingredients on the bench they shared together, absently she tossed into their conversation in a rather dismissive manner, 'Cinnamon butter cream goes well with carrot cake.'

Being so occupied with Xiu, Bea hadn't noticed the other ghoul walking in. All she could think about was the perfect recipe for the cake. Seeing as Xiu seemed experienced with baking before, Bea didn't have to worry at all. After all, baking is supposed to be fun! As Bea was about to flip a page of the recipe book, an unconcerned voice had suggested a type of frosting. Immediately, she looked up to see a ginger-haired ghoul with an adorable tea set and various supplies laid in front of her. At first Bea wondered if this is someone Xiu knew, seeing as the ghoul seemed so casual. Then again, she did say that she wasn't looking for anyone in particular...

"Cinnamon butter cream...? Brilliant! That sounds delectable! Why didn't we think of that?" excitingly turning to Xiu. Then she instantly gazed at the tea set again, "I simply adore your tea pot! The design of it is quite beautiful." Admiring the teapot, Bea had missed the taste and comfort of chamomile tea.

For a moment, there was a beat of silence.

Very quickly, to break the silence, Bea stretched out her hand towards the ghoul to imply a handshake. "Ah, my name is Beatrix and this is Xiu-Ying" gesturing to the mouse-like ghoul beside her, "you're welcome to join us if you'd like!"

Like Beatrix, it seemed that Xiu had been so distracted by her thoughts--and the pending decisions--that she hadn't noticed the other ghoul enter the room. Perhaps she registered it vaguely in the back of her mind--the sound of footsteps and objects lightly clicking against the counter as they were set down--but she hadn't really realized there was someone else here until she spoke up. At once, Xiu's head jerked up and she turned to face the stranger.

Cinnamon butter cream? ...That did sound good! A small smile twitched on the corners of her lips, and the Baku gave a small, eager nod of her head. "That...that would go quite well! And it wouldn't be hard to make, either." If she looked around, she was certain that they would be able to find the ingredients.

When she was introduced, Xiu clasped her hands together and gave a polite little bow. "N-nice to meet you!" She smiled, straightening. She didn't recall seeing this glasses-wearing ghoul around, but...she seemed nice? H-hopefully? "And yes! If you'd like to join us, you...you're more than welcome to!"

The more the merrier, that was for certain!

Harriet continued to stare down her nose over the rim of her glasses at the other two ghouls, as was characteristic of her. She stared observantly as they both chirped their responses but at the mention of her tea pot Harriet's gaze slide sideways as she stared at her beloved teapot. 'It is rather.' Her eyes slipped back upon to the green haired ghoul whom seemed to be damp, she extended her hand forwards and announced herself as Beatrix and also named her companion. Harriet nodded once, slowly at Xiu, her eyes flickering down and then up to meet Xiu's eyes and then turned to look at Beatrix once more and lent across the workstation to shake Beatrix's outstretched hand. 'Pleasure, name's Harriet and thank you for your offer but I simply want to make some ginger biscuits and then I'll be off.'
PostPosted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 1:18 pm

That ghoul seemed... distant. It was sort of strange to see since Bea has yet to meet a ghoul like this. She looked at Harriet with heartbroken eyes when she declined the offer, however that didn't stop Bea from trying to make a new friend. "Wha--? Come now, Harriet! Xiu and I only just met each other, but I believe this would make a fun experience to bake with others! I know it might sound strange at first... but I'm sure you'll have fun and make a couple of friends in the process, yes? I don't know if you are, but I'm a new student here. Us ghouls need to stick together," Bea rambled for a bit there. Not sure if Bea was being persuasive to the other ghoul or pushing her away. When she was done, she smiled valiantly at Harriet and Xiu, looking back and forth between the two.

Finally, her eyes landed on Harriet's again, "I insist you stay to bake with us!" she said as she clasped both her hands onto Harriet's. If this wasn't going to be a fun experience, at least it would be an interesting one.

Harriet stared over her glasses at the overly eager Bea and smiled gently, like you would an excited dog your attempting to calm down. She pulled one hand from Bea and placed it on top of Bea's patting it slowly onto her other hand and then slowly with drawing and standing up straight behind her workstation and placing both her hands palm down, hip distance apart and peered at Bea. 'I'm new here that's true and I'd welcome your company though I really must bake these biscuits for they last me a while and I like to have one or two when I take tea in the afternoons. I'll be behind you working so I'll not be going anywhere for some time.' She held Bea's eyes weighting up the bold ghoul and then she turned to look at Xiu whom seemed far more meek and a little shy.

Whilst Harriet wasn't antisocial she was simply use to her own company, most others seemed to find her little 'odd' and therefore was simply in the habit of pleasing herself. She turned back to Bea and offered a slight compromise, 'How about I bake my biscuits and you and Xiu continue with your carrot cake, that way we get two products and I'll brew us all a cup of tea to try them with once we're finished, sound like a good idea, hm?'
