The herd had somewhat settled in these new lands and Mornhavon was restless to get back to what he did best, healing - sort of. He was a good healer if you caught him on a good day. For the most part however he was only half-decent at what he did because he enjoyed the thrill of experimenting with new techniques more than he did actually healing. Today he had set off early to get away from the prying eyes of the herd and to see just what plants this new land held, what possibilities he could play around with and to see if there was anyone who would let him experiment on them, or maybe some poor sucker who got hurt and needed to be healed.
He found a good place to start looking. A small copse of trees under which grew a plethora of plants and fungi. "Well what do we have here?" Well this one looked interesting. A short plant that held several broad leaves, that started at green near the stem them turned to a vibrant blue. Along the middle of the leaf was a tan stripe. All the glorious possibilities for this plant began to race through his mind. Lowering his nose he gave it a smell. It's scent was an odd mix of sweetness and earth.

Yanamari had the day to herself. Cian was off visiting his family and she didn't feel comfortable enough to join him, besides he hadn't seen them in a long time so she didn't want to distract him from seeing them. So she let him go off on his own to enjoy the time with them alone and she would take the day to herself to relax. This area was beautiful enough that she likely wouldn't miss him too badly. Funny how in the short time she had been traveling with Cian her confidence had grown greatly. She no longer walked around in a half scared, half depressed state. No, she still didn't like her Kalona traits but slowly, very slowly, she was starting to look at them as something other than a curse.
As she walked along the forest, wings lightly tucked at her side she spotted something moving off in the distance. Moving closer Yanamari's eyes settled upon a very small looking unicorn. How strange. She had seen unicorns in the past but they were much larger than this one, had longer horns...and generally not as creepy markings either. Just what was he? And more importantly why was he staring so intently at that plant.

A shadow fell over him and Mornhavon's head snapped up to see just what was happening. He looked up towards a large blue and silver mare, she had an odd looking horn protruding from her forehead, wing at her side and a tail that looked similar to him but had a splayed end instead of hair. And what was even stranger is that she appeared to have scales on her body as well. Just what kind of creature was he looking at? But more importantly why the hell was she staring at him like that? "You're blocking out the light." He told her gruffly. How could he get a good look at these plants if he couldn't see it clearly.
Turning his attention back to the plant for a moment Mornhavon huffed and looked back up at the mare. "And just why are you staring at me? Can't you see I'm working and your presence is distracting." Stupid mares, he never cared for them, they always needed to be around, asking questions, talking to much, expecting him to drop his work so he could spend time with them. He had no use for them unless they were hurt and wished for him to attempt to heal them.

Oh dear! She hadn't meant to be staring at him, but her curiosity got the better of her and now she was so flustered she could barely think. Well this was a fine time to not have Cian around to help her through this. "Oh...oh I'm so sorry. I just...was curious. I haven't seen anyone like you before. I've seen unicorn but you're..." She didn't think saying that he was so small would be a good idea so the words hung in her mouth unsaid. For such a small male he sure was unfriendly. Her experience with Usdia were few and far between but those had always been friend - but never had a horn like he had.
Taking a few quick steps back Yanamari couldn't imagine just what he was working on. He seemed to be just staring at a plant. How was that working? "I didn't mean to interrupt your work." She went to leave, to let him return to his work, but now she wondered why he was so interested in the plant. There were some beneficial plants in the world so maybe he was a scholar in that scene. "Can I ask....just what are you doing?"

His attention was pulled away from the plant. Why could this mare not leave him alone. Letting out a long ragged sigh to show his displeasure of her continued presence Mornhavon turned towards her. "I am a minicorn." He stated firmly, and she had better not continue on with her sentence about being different than unicorns. He knew what she was getting at, that he was short compared to them. His stature did not affect anything, his abilities matched his size and if he were the size of a full unicorn then he would be more powerful.
"And if you absolutely must know," which he knew was the case, she wouldn't leave without an answer. "I am trying to learn about the plants in this land. To find out if they have healing properties or other uses." There, he told her, not she could bugger off...unless...damn he was going to hate himself for this he just knew it. "Know anything about these plants? Or care to help me test it out?" Maybe he could convince her to eat the leave and see just what happens, because honestly as much as he wanted to know what the plant would do he had learned the hard way when he was younger to never experiment on himself, only on others.

Minicorn? Well if she was one to make jokes she would have right then and there. It did seem like an appropriate name for it. But Yanamari was never one to mock others for their looks or size. She knew what it was like to be stared at and have names and jokes thrown at her, so she would never do that to this stallion, or any other. She was glad he didn't ask what breed she was as without Cian around she didn't have the confidence to talk about herself.
So he was trying to learn about the plant. Oh, well that was interesting. And if minicorns were like regular unicorns, who sometimes added herbs to their natural healing abilities then he was probably looking to find that out about these plants. "Oh, well, I don't much about a lot of plants. And certainly that one I'm not familiar with." The one he had been staring so intently at she didn't even know what it was called. "But that one," she pointed to the mushroom growing up beside the plant. "that one is safe to eat. It doesn't have any healing abilities that I know of." Lifting her head she glanced around and spotted some elderberry bushes. "Now those ones over there are said to be good at preventing sickness." She gave her shoulders a shrug, other than one or two plants she really didn't know much about healing herbs and plants.

Well she wouldn't be much help at all if she didn't know much about plants, most importantly the one he was interested in. Mornhavon gave a huff but then before he could comment about her uselessness she began to talk about other plants. Well that was better than nothing he supposed. While she may not know whether the mushroom to heal or not knowing it was at least edible was a start he supposed. His attention turned as she spoke of another plant, this one however he recognized. "We had that one back home, I know what it does."
Of course the mare wouldn't have known that but Mornhavon felt the need to point it out anyways. Finally he turned his attention from the variety of plants to the mare, really taking a good look at her. Taking in her scale covered body and leathery wings. The horn on her forehead was different that his own. And her tail...what was with that tail! Why it wasn't even made of hair! "And just what are you supposed to be anyways?"

Yanamari was a bit flustered when he replied so snappy about already knowing about that one plant. How the hell was she supposed to know what they had in their old lands? Were they that similar to these ones, and if that was the case then how did he not know about the other plants? For the second time she wished Cian was here to provide support for her, both emotionally and physically. His mere presence would be enough to calm her down...especially when confronted with the Minicorn's next question.
Why oh why did he have to ask that? Shuffling her hooves slightly Yanamari turned her attention to her wings and other distinguishing features. "Oh...well...I..." Eyes shifted looking about for Cian hoping he would pop out of the trees. Her hopes were dashed a moment later when her friend didn;t magically appear to save her. Letting out a sigh Yanamari lowered her head and prepared to tell him the truth, chances are he wouldn't even know what a Kalona was or the threat they placed upon the lands. "I am a Kirin mixed with a Kalona. My scales are of my Kirin blood and my wings and tail are of the Kalona blood." There she said it, that wasn't so hard. Admitting to her Kalona blood to a stranger who knew nothing of the breeds of this land.

What was wrong with her? The way she was looking about and shifting. It was like she was somehow uncomfortable. Mornhavon didn't really care, he was out here to gather knowledge of herbs not to give his mare advice or mentor her in how to deal with her personal problems. While she mulled over her answer Mornhavon turned his attention back to the plant at his feet. When he heard her voice his attention slowly towards the larger mare. "A Kirin and Kalona cross." He repeated with a nod of his head.
He had never heard of either of those breeds. They were probably all over these lands, just like the way the breeds from the old lands he lived in. There were plenty of his type and others were they used to live so perhaps instead of Minicorns, Putti's and Nyphm's this land must be populated with these so called Kirin and Kalona. And much like the mini breeds he was familiar with they interbred amongst themselves creating creatures like the mare before him. "I know a few mixed breeds. Usually aren't as strong as full breeds." Though he was not interesting in breeding at the moment Mornhavon would never allow himself to breed with anyone but another Minicorn, but others were much less caring of who they partnered with.

The normal hatred was not there, now she could relax even more. Though the poor thing should be warned not to trust Kalona in the future, but doing so would probably cause him to run off in fear. Better for him to do so with her than encounter a true Kalona and not understand the dangers. His voice brought her out of these thoughts and she returned her attention to him. Apparently mixed breeds were more accepted in his old lands than they were here. Not all were like that of course but there were plenty out there who thought like that, that only pure breeds were good, and Kalona were among those with the purist mindset.
Now was not the time to think of such things. She needed to warn him. "Sine you are new to these lands you should know. Kalona are not something to mess with, they are a dangerous breed." Yanamari averted her eyes for the moment once again ashamed of her fathers blood. "You should count yourself lucky that I am the one you ran into first. You really need to warn the others about my kind." Her kind. She had never referred to herself as their kind before, it was always something she was ashamed of, but for the moment she had to make herself their kind to prove her point to the stallion.

Well what was this now? Something about her breed apparently, or one of them at least. It was something he hadn't really encountered from the breed he knew, they were all nice, minus a few of them but it seemed more to do with the individual than the breed itself. The knowledge that there were these large breed who were dangerous was important. Herbs would do him or anyone else any good if they were all dead. "So you're dangerous huh?" She didn't look all that dangerous, more strange than anything else. He wasn't one to go and socialize with the others and certainly not go and spread information to them, not like they would listen to him, they all thought him crazy for experimenting so much.
He gave a simple shrug of his shoulders. "I suppose I can pass on the warning to the others." Whether they believed him or not was another story. "You don't look so scary." He said idly and then turned his attention back to the plants, he had wasted enough time chatting with the mare that it was time to concentrate back at his work. "Now unless you can tell me about these other plants you should run along, I have work to do." Blasted mare, always interrupting others when they were obviously busy.

"It would be best if you did." She said after a few moments. And then after his next comment she added. "Just because one does not look scary doesn't mean that they aren't dangerous." There were plenty of non-Kalona out there as well that looked quite harmless but in reality they were almost as bad as Kalona or Skinwalkers. Then like that he was back looking at the plant and telling her to leave unless she could help him with it. "Oh..." Guess they were done talking. "...I will let you get back to your work. Sorry for interrupting." With a final glance at him and the plant he was studying Yanamari turned and began to walk away.
It occurred to her once she was far enough away to no longer see him that she had never given him her name and he had not shared his own. Well she certainly didn't want to go back and interrupt him again, so she gave her head a shake and continued on, she had to find Cian and tell him all about this strange little stallion.

He knew well that looks could be deceiving but she didn't need to tell him that. Warning him like he was a mere child on his first day out of the basket. "Yes, yes, run along." He said idly while his attention remained on the plant, he must learn more about it and the sun was already descending and it wouldn't be long before he ran out of daylight. He had wasted far too much time talking with that mare. He glanced off to look in the direction she had left, sighed and then turned back to the plant. Really he should have made her try the herb and see what it would do, ah well he wouldn't make that same mistake twice.
