Sophia's fragile little body shivered and quaked in the cold air. Maion had told everyone that a storm was brewing and that they should all settle together for heat and company. That was why she was currently here rather than in the treeline were her little family usually slept. She knew most of the herd members, each had been nice to her desipte how sickly she was most of the time... they had welcomed her as a small part of their herd. And Sophia couldn't help but smile. The Miakoda herd was the nicest group of people she knew... of course it was really the only group she knew. She had met a few strangers, like Kristan and his family, but not many. She was usually too ill to go wandering.

She looked for her mother and father, they were still telling her two brothers off.... they had got into trouble for something or other, again, and now needed reminding of the rules. She sighed. If only she had the chance to get told off... even when that Kalona had tried to kill her and Maion and Kristan had been forced to save her she hadn't been told off, instead everyone was simply happy she was safe and sound.

Sophia sighed again and placed her head on her front hooves as another shiver ran through her body.

Kaida had just finished her fight with the herds alpha Sengdroma, it had been... interesting. She had planned to leave for home but the threat of the storm had stalled her plans, she knew that her flutter blood made her light, and she had no intention of being swept away against her will. No, on this occasion she understood that there was safety in numbers... and even though she didn't know this herd they had welcomed her with open arms.

Kaida couldn't help but think they were all too trusting, but she didn't have the heart to say it out loud. Of course, given how their alpha fought it wouldn't surprise her if they help more secrets among them.

She looked over the group, spotting a small Angeni foal who seemed to be cowering in the cold. Unable to resist the pull towards the dainty creature, Kaida walked towards her and bowed softly in greeting. "May I join you little one?" Kaida was sure that the child's parents were nearby, but for the moment she was all alone... and no child should ever feel they are all alone.

Felina had been hunting the skinwalkers for two days, but had lost their tracks due to the strange weather the land seemed to be experiencing lately. She had come to find the herds alpha Sengdroma, to tell her that unless she managed to find the tracks again their deal would be over..... after all Felina couldn't hunt something she couldn't find, and knowing the skinwalkers Felina suspected they had fled the area... at least for now. Leaving the question, to where?

She walked towards the group, unable to spot the blue lilly pattern mare that she sought. "Em.... excuse me." She said to the nearest person, a blue fluttercorn with a deadly looking sword. "...have you see Sengdroma?"

Sophia looked up as the first mare approached her, her little face beamed up at them as she nodded eagerly. She didn't recongise her but Sophia knew that among her herdmates she was safe, plus she knew that Maion and Sengdroma would never have allowed a threat to get this close to the herds epic-centre without a fight. "Please," She chirped, the smile on her face refusing to leave.

She had been about to ask the mares name when another mare approached... this one looked scary. She was covered in scars, torn wings that didn't seem to be made of feathers.... Sophia gulped. Remembering the wings on the beast that tried to capture her not too long ago. She started to cry, stumbling to her feet she did her best to hide behind the blue mare that had arrived moments earlier.

Sophia knew it was childish but as she closed her eyes she hoped with all her heart that the scary creature was gone.

Kaida smiled at the sweet mare and her enthusiam, she wanted to sit with the mare but the distraction brought about by someone who seemed to spook the cute little foal distracted Kaida.

She turned automatically to see a mare that, to be blunt, didn't seem to belong among the others of this herd. Yet, the fact that she had used the alpha's name calmed Kaida's mind a little despite the reaction of the foal. Kaida suspected that the children were usually protected from the every day goings of the herd and the herd elders..... it was likely the little girl had never seen a Kalona before, or at least a half one.

The warrior in Kaida took in every detail, she examined the torn wings -probably unable to support flight- she noted the obvious blindness in her right eye, and of course she noted what appeared to be skinwalker boots..... curious and curious. "No, I have not seen the herds Alpha."

She turned to the foal then, and in an effort to try and sooth her she leaned in and whispered softly, "You have nothing to fear, I shall protect you.... until your parents come back at least." She added with a wink.

Felina saw the reaction of the young and the old around her, each looked at her with hatred in part.... still, she could not change what she was or what she did. Felina didn't believe she was evil, if anything she was noble for her kind. Hunting only those worthy of death.... only skinwalkers died at her hoof.

Felina shrugged as the mare answered the question, and although every cell in her body told her to leave this group she couldn't..... the storm was building, and by coming here she had lost the opportunity to seek shelter of her own. Curses!

With a sigh she sat down. She would only stay until the worst of the storm had passed.

Feeling a bit more confident now, and seeing that the strange mare had sat down without threatening, hissing, growling... or doing any of the things she had expected from her she relaxed. She nodded at the mare that had offered to protect her, a small smile spreading across her face. "I'm Sophia." She chirped.

Bravery started to flow through her tiny body as she peeked from around the strange warrior flutters leg. "Who are you both? Why are you here?" She asked them both, her attention turning from one to the other. In her heart Sophia was a curious creature.... it was the reason she would often wander from the herd lands in search of her own mini adventures.

Kaida found it hard to relax around such a hard-looking mare, but as the filly visably relaxed she found it hard not to follow suit. Still, as she lowered herself to the ground she did her best to possition herself between the kalona mare and the young foal. Although she was willing to appear 'idol' she would keep a keen eye and react should anything change. The way of a warrior.

"A pleasure Sophia," She said, smiling up at the young filly. "My name is Kaida, I am on a quest from my herd to prove my strength and my right to be named as the herd's champion." She didn't want to go into too much detail, about how the leaders daughter was to be mated with the son of a once rival herds leader. Together they would pave a way to the future. But before that a champion from each herd needed to be named, and together they had to retrieve several relics to be used for the herd bindings. Kaida intented to be such a champion, to prove that mares could be just as smart and fast and strong as any stallion.

Kaida had half a mind to ignore all the questions and conversations around her, but as a question became directed at her she felt it would be rude to ignore it... at least she expected it would be seen as rude. Her knowlegde of social situations was far from complete, she would rather avoid such situations than walk into them after alls.

With a sigh she spoke, her voice a little harsher than the other mares and probably more direct in her mean. "Felina. Skinwalker hunter."

Felina was not one for fancy stories and fancy words. Straight to the point had always served her well. And she had grown to hate the nonsence babble of those trying to show off to one another, she would often earwig on their conversations in the hope of getting a new lead for her to hunt down. Most turned out to be exagerations.... shadows that they believed had been a skinwalker. Others had been true.

Like most foals it didn't take Sophia long to forget the discomfort she had felt mere moments before. Now she was simply fascinated. Both of these mares were so tough looking. Both fighters, strong... everything she longed to be rather than the weak and fragile creature she found herself being instead. As if one cue she found herself coughing, turning her head away for a moment she finished coughing and then focused again.

"Wow!" she chirped, "Will be named champion Kaida?" As she sat and listened her little tail wiggled in excitment. Of course she couldn't ignore the other mare, her attention instantly shifting at the mention of the skinwalker race. "Skinwalkers.... aren't you scared?" Her eyes were wide in amazement, she had never seen anyone fight a skinwalker alone and rumor had it that before she was born two pure skinwalkers had attacked them and only a large group of males had been able to drive them back.

Kaida smiled down at the little mare before speaking, "I hope so. It is why I am working so hard." The excitment that was literally bubbling from the foal was catching and she found herself smiling despite herself.

Granted that didn't mean her attention wasn't instantly shifted to the strange Kalona mare; unable to stop herself she blurted out. "You hunt skinwalkers?" For some reason this made her look at the stranger in a new light, and it certainly explained the strange boots she wore. Again the question simply blurted out from her lips. "Did you kill the beast on your feet?" Part of her knew it was possible to stumble across a body and steal parts, and for a Kalona she imagined that would not be unheard of... yet she suspected that in this case Felina had killed the beast herself. Impressive.

Felina found herself uncomfortable by the sudden onslaught of questions, yet as she sat among these strangers she felt as if she couldn't simply ignore them.

With a nervous gulp she turned to look at the foal, of the pair she seemed to be the least intimidating of the two with her big grins and cute wiggling tail. "Sometimes." She admited, after all she had been scared the day her mother had died, scared that she would be next.... and it was not as if her fights with the breed had all gone smooth despite the fact that she had used cunning and intellect over brute strength. After all Felina was now blind in one eye, and unable to fly.... but it was worth it.

Unable to turn to look at the flutter mare she simply answered the question while looking at the foal. "I do hunt them. And yes. He was my first kill." Felina didn't know that she should probably not meant to be so blunt and honest, that it may scare the small foal... but that was just more evidence at her lack of social skills.

"Wow...." She found herself saying yet again, "You are both so cool...."

Sophia wiggled closer to the pair, the wind of the storm picking up around her and she found herself subconsiously seeking the heat of the other mares. "Will you tell me some stories?" She asked as her head flopped onto Kaida's shoulder since she was closer. Sophia had always loved stories, and since she was always sickly sometimes it was the only adventure she got.

When she was alone she often liked to pretend that they had happened to her, playing out the many adventures around the lake and the small area she was permitted to wander around when she was ill. And perhaps these two strangers would give her new tales to play out.

The thought made her even more excited, her tail wagging with even more enthusiasm than before.

"Impressive," Kaida said as she glanced at Felina once more before returning her attention back to the small foal that had settled her head upon her shoulder. Kaida was not natural maternal... but she had to admit, it was nice.

"Sure Sophia, I would love to tell you a story. I am sure Felina will tell you one also." Noting the soft shiver from the foal she moved her fluffy wings to surround the small mare in the hopes of keeping her warm. The storm hadn't started yet, so she hoped that it wouldn't get too bad incase the small child shivered even more from the wind.

"Let's see..... what would you rather hear, the Princess and the sword? Or perhaps the story of Two herds." Both stories were based on her life, the first being one based on her own experiences and the second was based on the two herds that would soon join as one. After so long she had forgotten most of her childhood fairy tails.
