Taiat kicked a rock. He really wasn’t sure where to go from here. He and Harvest were very happy, but there was still something that he needed to do. The way that Harvest’s childhood friend Demon had parted with her had been less than spectacular. Taiat knew this had hurt Harvest more thand she would say. Demon had been a brother to her. Well she didn’t reciprocate his feelings of love, his leaving had injured her. As her mate Taiat took it upon himself to at least track Demon down so that he might try and convince the green male to come back and at least see Harvest. He had come back to the mountainous region where he had last seen Demon and followed what he thought had been Demon’s trail for a few days now. He was lost, alone, annoyed, and had no idea what to do next.

Smelling the air Taiat looked up at the sky. It seemed like rain so he thought he would find a cave to keep dry in. Sighing Taiat’s ears flicked in annoyance. It just seemed so hopeless to find Demon, much less convince him that he should stop being angry and come see Harvest some time. He kept on traveling for another hour before seeing a cave off in the distance.

Heading toward the cave he hoped nothing dangerous was inside. Stepping in the cave cautiously he kept his eyes open and waited patiently for them to adjust to the dim light in the cave. He saw something move further in cave. Stepping back he frowned and really hoped he wasn’t facing another bear.

Well at least I found him.. now what am I going to do with him? “Demon” Taiat cleared his throat and decided that he didn’t know enough about social interactions to soften this any so he might as well just get it all out there. “Harvest and I are mates, and quite happy at that. She misses you though. She worries a lot about her childhood friend.” Sighing Taiat continued.

“You could stand to come and visit us some time. I know she’d like that. While I would find it trying it doesn’t matter. As long as she’s happy.” What is just him or did this cave smell of charred fur?

“Well it is very refreshing to know that you haven’t changed any since I last saw you.” Taiat’s voice was dry and tired. “Here she is worried about you and here I am hauling my tail all over the da** mountains trying to find you and make sure that you are ok for her and you’re still spewing obscenities and rage.” Taiat wasn’t turning back. He sat down in the mouth of the cave and watched the other male slink back future in. “It’s customary in many parts of the world to invite a guest into your den.. especially when it’s going to rain.” As if to extenuate his words thunder sounded overhead. “You would just let me sit out here and get all wet would you?” He would without a doubt.. but I am at least trying to be civil.

“Also I am not lying. Harvest does worry over you and does miss you. You are a brother to her. To be honest there are some things in that bond with her that I envy.. like all the stories you have of her that I’ll never know. I can’t simply lie to her and say you’re dead when you aren’t. I’ve been told I have a bad lying face.”

“You are right I am stupid. I didn’t mean to steal your light or your world or however you think of her. The fact is Harvest is my world too. She is the only one who has ever spoken to me and cared about me. She even saved my life. Hell she gave me life!” Taiat didn’t raise his voice. It would do no good. “Harvest didn’t ask me to find you.. she didn’t have to. I know how important you are to her. If she knew where you where she would come here herself and drag you out of this cave and into the light. Don’t bother saying she wouldn’t when we both know she would.” Taiat was a bit surprised at the pain in Demon’s voice, but he didn’t show it. Let this male hate him as much as he wanted. As long as he didn’t hate Harvest Taiat was fine with it. “Ok well even if this isn’t your den I’m going to treat it as such, so will you ask me in?” The first drop of rain fell and splattered Taiat in the middle of his head. He sighed. He knew he was going to end up wet.

“Ah so you might be dying.. is that so? Well then I will just have to nurse you back to health.” Taiat’s voice showed that he meant it. “Pre might be Harvest’s brother, but you are too.” Taiat actually looked sad as he dealt with Demon’s rage now. “How could I not envy you. You have an unbreakable bond with my mate that no matter how much it hurts me I have to deal with it. There are stories that she might share if I asked, but how could I ask when I don’t know what to ask?” He blinked as a few more drops of rain hit his fur. “Well then.. what happened next? ”

“And who’s to say she’s not looking now in another spot?” Taiat tsked at Demon’s impertinence. Yes he was certain that’s what it was called. “She takes flights all the time. Who says she isn’t visiting past places where you would more likely be? After all I certainly didn’t expect you in this cave there is no reason if she flew past that she would either.” Taiat watched the male retreat even further into the cave. He looked at the lighter area just inside that Demon was pointedly not looking at. “For me?” Taiat wouldn’t have Demon ask him to come in but was this Demon’s way of being polite?

“I would nurse you back to health for her. I don’t like you, I don’t even find you tolerable. She does and would never forgive me if I simply let you die. So silence.” Taiat frowned and his eyes narrowed. He’d help Demon for Harvest’s sake if he had to half kill him to do so. “It seems I’m not the only stupid fox here. You’re bond isn’t broken.. I wouldn’t be here if it was. How did you lie and fail her mm? She still cares and needs you, just as she has me there is a spot in her heart just for you. I can’t fill it. No other fox can. She needs her friend. She needs you.”

Taiat nodded and stepped in the cave to avoid ending up drenched by the sprinkle that was turning quickly into a real rain. “Clearly you are where you shouldn’t be or else you would be back with her and me right now.”

“Suck up?” Taiat looked confused. “Ok that one you’re going to have to explain to me. I’m not good with people and the idioms they use.” He snorted. “How could I face her again if I found you and left you to die?” Taiat rolled his eyes. A trait he didn’t remember picking up but found appropriate. “Congratulations you can’t be in two places at once. Now that you’ve discovered what every kit knows by the end of their first year why don’t we move forward to making amends and growing up.” Alright so sarcasm wasn’t really Taiat’s strong suite, but he thought he did well this time attempting it. He simply started and blinked at Demon. Taiat’s face was a mask. “You haven’t heard a word I said did you? She still needs and always will need you. You’re failing her now by not seeing that. So stop it and lets just deal with things as they come.”

“Willing or not if you had any sense you would come with me and see her. You wouldn’t have to stay. Simply visiting and letting her know you’re alive would help.”

“I see. So you assume I wish to curry favor with Harvest by dragging you back? I hate to disappoint you, but she is my mate. I do this because I care for her and want to be happy. She doesn’t have to ask me to this. I do it of my own free will.” Watching Demon walk by the smell of burred fur was stronger and Taiat saw an injury on Demon. Sighing he got up and followed the other male. “We can never be what we were. We can only be what we are. As you are now still can help her, she cares about you as you are now. Not only as what you were. ” He took a few steps in silence with the rain being the only sound. “You know you shouldn’t move about to much being hurt.” Still he didn’t try and stop Demon. The other male would eventually wear himself out and collapse. Then Taiat could drag him back and take care of him.
