Joseph Achilles Leverett:
He slowly... very slowly carried the animal that was held in his arms. It spilled out, and it meekly struggled for freedom. Of course, with back hip broken, or even possibly shattered, it wasn't moving very much, mewling and growling in intense pain. Everyone in the path ahead of him quickly made way for him, some yelping in surprise.
Joseph normally would have simply called the police, but he had known that there was an animal shelter just a block away. He walked quickly, but running could hurt the poor thing even worse. Wearing the heavy jumpsuit made for mechanics and covered in oil he was not the ideal man for caring for a wounded animal. But nearly no one else could have managed to carry it.
He pushed the door open to the animal shelter. Stepping into the building that smelled of animals and antiseptic, the five foot four man looked around wildly for help. Probably weight around 200 pounds, he looked quite frankly, overweight, growing stubble on his face. With brown hair and matching eyes, he looked a little worse for wear and very alarmed.
Of course, he was carrying a very wounded and over a hundred pound Puma. It meekly struggled as he yelled, "Hello! I need help now!! I have a mountain lion here! It is pretty badly wounded!"

☽ Lunestra ☾ ☽ Roberts ☾ Luna had been working in the trying hard to feed all the cats. She had already spent 20 minutes doing this and was starting to get tried of their hissing. "Honestly I can't help I smell somewhat canine, but I promise this is not poison and I am not trying to kill you." Her long black hair which had been tied up neatly in a tight bun was starting to fall out and her yellow shelter t-shirt was now stained from only a couple of hours of work. She sighed annoyed as a cat tried to scratch her as she put food into it's bowl. A dog behind her laughed. She ignored him, he was new anyway. Surprised by the bell of the opening front door Luna looked up from her work. "I will be back soon... Oh don't look at me like that." She added looking over at a pit bull who had what seemed like an empty pit for a stomach. "I already gave you food." Washing her hands at the sink by the animal room Luna quickly disinfected and stepped out. She immediately wished she hadn't. Cats where one thing but mountain lions where quite another. And then there was the man hold the large cat. The first thing that had popped into Luna's head was he must be stronger then he looked. Then she shook her head. There was work to do. Running over to what looked like a closet Luna pulled out a stretcher. "Here, put the... mountain lion here. Do you know what happened?" Luna asked pulling the stretcher to the man and Puma. In the eyes of the wolf, the world seems to shine.

Glad to see the woman appearing quickly, he carefully placed the puma on the stretcher, saying, with clear disgust in his voice, "Some dumbass was showing off his animal summoning powers on the corner of a street to a crowd." He backed away from the growling pained animal, looking sore. He had a faint Eastern European accent and seemed to be breathing a little hard from carrying it so far so fast.
"He summoned it from God knows where, and it appeared in the middle of the street, sleeping. it woke up, then before it could even roar its confusion, a car sideswiped it, hitting it in the back legs. The car fled the scene, the summoner fled the scene and the cat was left crumpled on the ground. I had been walking back from lunch when i watched this thing hissing and angrily at anything that got too close. I grabbed it and came back here." He backed up letting the woman do her work. He was no vet or carer of animals, that was certain. "Sorry. Didn't know where else to go, and it was in enough pain as it was."

☽ Lunestra ☾ ☽ Roberts ☾ Luna shook her head, disgusted by what she heard. Human's could be so selfish sometimes. "Well you brought it the right place... or should I say her." Luna said lifting up a hing leg to examine it and discover gender. Great a female mountain cat would be more aggressive because of young. Luna cursed in hebrew. There was no way should could deal with this alone. Turning to man she said calmly. "I unfortunately can not help this cat by myself but everyone else is out for lunch." Yeah all two of them. "Would it too much to ask of you to stay here for a bit while I make a few phone calls. Oh and I think police may want a report so that could get the summoner and driver." She would need to call her boss, the zoo vet, and the cops anyway because they had an unusual animal at the shelter. Last week Luna and a coworker had to make same list of phone calls because of trunk full of howler moneys that had landed on the doorsteps. In the eyes of the wolf, the world seems to shine.

Joseph Achilles Leverett:
Joseph looked a little reluctant to stay, and he said so. "Well, I... do need to get back to work soon..." He turned to look at the door and then winced. He gritted his teeth then said, "Yeah, sure. Could you make the calls and bring back some rubbing alcohol? I don't know how sanitary its claws are." He looked back over his shoulder to see the back of his pants were a little wet with the slow dripping of blood. "I will be fine right now, make the calls and we can see to my back. It wasn't too bad. It was just a little scared when I first tried to pick it up."
He grimaced in an attempt make light of it. "Seriously, make the calls first. I can't be more than an hour late to work." And if he knew police reports, it would take at least that long for the questioning to end. He sighed mentally. No good deed goes unpunished, he always told himself.

☽ Lunestra ☾ ☽ Roberts ☾ Luna gasped mentally kicking herself for noticing the man's condition at all. He was hurt himself. That was just great. Running back over to were the stretcher had come from Luna pulled out a first aid kit and a bottle of spray on antiseptic. Then running back to the man she handed him the the first aid kit and looked at his shoulder. She was grateful he was not too much taller then her, she could for once see what she was doing without telling him to bend down. "It does not look like the scratches are too deep, but I will also call an ambulance if you want me to." clearly this stout little man was strong enough to carry the cat so may not need the extra help. She then raised over behind the desk and made her first call, the zoo. "Hello Richard, it's Luna... Lunestra, you know... we spoke last week. Yes the monkeys.... glad to hear they are doing good. Look is Coral or one of the other vets in... Arthur's in. Great... What? Oh no this time a mountain lion... Yeah that is why I asked for Coral... Yes I know that is her speciality. Look send Arthur and then call Coral. I'd call her but I do not have her number... Thanks... Thank you Richard. ....Yes have good day too. Bye." Luna hung up the phone and sighed. She then looked over at the lion and sighed. She was no longer growling or roaring but Luna worried that if she went too close she might get angry again and try to attack. That would be bad for both Luna and the lioness. At least the minor sedative seemed to have kicked in at last. Luna then returned to the man giving him a friendly little smile. "When I first came to Megalopolis I was not really expecting these type of days. How is your arm and shoulder doing?" She would make the call the police in a moment, she needed to make that the man had not gotten an infection in the shoulder otherwise the cops would be getting a statement from the back of an ambulance whether the man want to go or not. In the eyes of the wolf, the world seems to shine.

Joseph Achilles Leverett: Joseph gave her a pained grin when she went back to grab medical supplies for him. Making the calls was far higher on his priorities. His boss was fairly lenient, but there was a point where he would take notice of Joseph's absence.
When she gave him her diagnosis, he nodded, "Yeah, I figured. or else I wouldn't be walking. Stupid of me to carry the thing in a fireman's carry anyway. I got this." He grabbed the antiseptic, and while she made her calls, almost hastily began spraying it on his wounds, hissing slightly at the pain, but no louder than the wild animal itself. It stung, but he was more worried about disease than pain. If he came down with rabies or something, ugh, he would be so annoyed.
When she made comment, he laughed, "You came to the wrong city, ma'am, if you wanted normal. Just fine. When you call the police, I wouldn't mind a few patches on the cuts I can't reach. With all the oil on my uniform, the blood won't be noticed much, you think?"
Joseph was well acquainted with the first aid kit, or did a passably good job of making the best of cleaning the wounds where he could reach them. He was not bleeding heavily, as the beast had still been quite stunned and wounded when he found it so it couldn't put up too much a fight.

☽ Lunestra ☾ ☽ Roberts ☾ Luna smiled and made her way back to the telephone. This time calling emergency. "I think the oil stains hide it quite well... Oh yes. Hi yes I have a emergency, I need an ambulance and a police car... Why, well we have mountain lion here and the person that found it. He got injured carrying it... No he did not summon it, he found it and brought it to the shelter.... Yes I work at the shelter... My name is Luna... oh you meant the guy that brought the mountain lion. Well when the police come they can ask him. Yes thank you." Luna hung up the phone and said quiet calmly, "They wanted your name, but I thought it would make more sense for them to find out themselves." Luna then made her way to the front door and changed the sign from opened to closed and locked it. She did not want a mother with young children coming in while a doped up Puma was lying on a stretcher in the front. As for the zoo vet and cops, the zoo had a key for the back door and the emergency crew could knock. She then looked over at the man that had brought in the cat and said, "And to be honest, I don't know your name." It was less an invite for him to share it and more a statement of fact, she could not share what she did not know. The mountain lion stirred a little. She hoped Arthur and Coral would get here soon, everything about that oversizes p***y cat was making Luna antsy. A low growl escaped her lips, a bit of the wolf showing its tenseness. In the eyes of the wolf, the world seems to shine.

Joseph Achilles Leverett: The man hadn't spent too much time listening to her conversation, mostly eying the unconscious wild animal and hoping he could change his uniform before he was spotted getting back to work. It would take some effort and using the back entrance, but Dave that worked back there seemed to like Joseph, and wouldn't say anything.
He realized he should have been thinking about what he saw earlier at the car stop. Witness reports were notoriously bad, and the longer away the interview, the less remembered. So he spent time mentally retrapping what he saw in his head. Did he see the car license plate? Yes, but all he could tell was that it was local. It was a light grey something or other SUV, and the mage- The woman had been talking to him. He blinked, and looked back to her. "Oh, Sorry. I am Joseph Leverett." He motioned to the patch on his mechanics uniform, which stated he worked for the "Freestone Scrapyard," which was about two blocks away.
"Sorry, Just a little distracted. Nothing like a mountain lion in your day to distract your thoughts, am I right? So ah... monkeys last week?" He joked idly, wondering when the police would arrive. Any other time, he would have lied about his name, but the Police might have to recheck his story later, and she could already see where he worked.

☽ Lunestra ☾ ☽ Roberts ☾ Shaking her head and pulling herself out of the growl Luna looked over at Joseph. "Yes, a whole barrel full of them. Some young kid brought them. Said someone summoned them just down the block. I think it was supposed to be a joke... the monkeys did not think it was funny though." and neither had Luna. Spending a good chunk of her childhood in Israel and living with parents that did not understand every American reference the whole Monkeys in a barrel thing had gone completely over her head. A loose stand of hair rested against Luna cheek and she began to play with it, trying to come up with things to say. Either way the cops should get here soon and it seemed clear that Joseph was not really looking to being interviewed. Still it might help catch this summoner, who knew, he might have also summoned the monkeys from last week. Reading his name badge Luna smiled. "I have an aunt back in Western Massachusetts that runs a scrap yard with her husband. They get some pretty crazy things there. I bet a city like this, you must get some odd things there. There a conversation starter, she hoped that Joseph was better at holding a conversation then she was. Her mind could sometimes wonder off pretty badly. Joseph Achilles Leverett: " Jeez, I didn't know animal summoning was so common. Its oddly specific for a mutant. I would bet on a spellcaster" He shook his head. The world they lived in was crazy. And to think nearly none of this was popular knowledge just a century ago. He could barely assume anything anymore. Just last week he didn't even set off the Mutant detector they had been scrapping. Maybe it was broken, of course.
When it came to his scrap yard, he grinned at some private joke. "You have no idea. While most scrapyards do cars or industrial work, we specialize in secret lairs."
It wasn't much of a secret, as they were often the customers of the Police department, once they finished sweeping a Lair for clues. And when supers were low on cash, they could always sell some of their equipment to their scrapyard.

☽ Lunestra ☾ ☽ Roberts ☾ Luna nodded "Yah most likely a spellcaster rather then a mutant. I bet the zoo wished they knew these people were, they could use more animals." Luna smiled to herself. Certainly the shelter did not need any more animals and the odder ones were much appreciated by the zoo. That is until the animal's orignal country found out and asked for it back. When Joseph mentioned what sort of scrap yard he worked it Luna laughed. "I bet you get the best stuff there." She could only imagine what sort of stuff a hero or villain with with a lair could leave behind. Half finished crazy science experiments, spare costumes, and the latest computers. She smiled to herself. A new computer sounded pretty good right about now. Her old laptop was now starting to run a bit slowly, but then again it was about 3 years old. Shaking her head at the silly thought she returned her attention back to Joseph. "So can you give some examples, I would love to know what I could find if I go looking for used things."In the eyes of the wolf, the world seems to shine.

Joseph Achilles Leverett: "If it makes them feel better, the puma is likely local, and I doubt someone would try to reclaim it out the the hundreds that are found in nearly every state." He shrugged, then winced at the pain in his shoulder, and said, "I also heard the Zoo had some real trouble with people stealing the animals for experiments." He shrugged, not really as up to date on animal news as he was people news.
Joseph blinked a moment, not realizing what she was talking about, at first. "Oh, you mean from the yard? We usually sell the unique stuff to patent lawyers, if we can. Most of the time that is illegal, so we break everything down into smaller parts. You are more likely to find engine parts for sale than whole digger machines. But..." He looked away and scratched his head, "Well, it isn't exactly classified, but they did bury the paperwork deep in the bureaucracy. They found a Russian shipping barge in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, just outside international waters near main. This was twenty years ago and it was sealed away in some secret base to be investigated. There was not an iota of life ever having existed on the ship, but there was no other damage. in the containers were all sorts of strange tech, and the government, in search of a little money, sold some of the containers off to trusted contractors. We bought four of them, and have been looking through them. We found at least three containers filled with Mithril shavings. Paid our investment back two-fold alone. When do you think the cops will show up?"

☽ Lunestra ☾ ☽ Roberts ☾ Luna smiled as she listened to him talk about the sunken ship. It fascinated her think that people really lived like that. And the investment of getting some of those part seemed well worth it. She was pulled away from her thoughts when he mentioned the cops. "I expects the cops will here any moment..."Just as she finished her statement their was a knock on the front. Luna looked up two see two men in blue cop uniforms and three people, one guy and two women in EMT uniforms. Luna jumped up and ran to let them in. "Thank you for coming. The gentleman the brought in the lioness is right over their. His cuts don't look too bad but you know me. I mostly deal with animals." She gave a weak little laugh. The cops nodded, the elder one seemed calm but his younger partner looked nervous, like he was very new to the job. Luna smiled. One of the two EMT women walked stood by Luna as her two companions walked over to Joseph with the cops by their side. She was young and thin, compared to the other woman who looked rather muscular, but not quite as much as Joseph, and she bright smile on her face. "bet you almost could not get him to let us come." She young EMT said brightly. Luna shrugged. "He seemed to know what he was doing when it came to patching himself up. It was mostly for the stuff he could not get at. And you know me, animals not people healing is what I have sort of learned here." The EMT laughed and joined the others by Joseph. Luna sighed, hoping that it would not take too long for him. A crowd like that would drive her a little nuts. Sighing she walked over past the Puma and towards the back door. But before she could open the door another person walked in. Arthur from the Zoo had walked in carrying a black doctor's bag and a grimace on his face. His shoulder length brown was tied back and swished a bit as walked with perpose to the lion. He looked at cops and EMT people then muttered. "At least you called the people that mattered." Luna put her hands on her hips. Arthur was always like this when got called away from the animals he really cared about. She was not going to play those games with him today though. In the eyes of the wolf, the world seems to shine.

Joseph Achilles Leverett: Joseph let the EMTs do their ministrations and spoke to the cops as they asked questions about the event. "Yes, I saw most of it. No, I was across the street, behind him, and didn't see his face clearly. Yeah, he was wearing a deep purple duster, and a navy blue witch hat, complete with a bend in the tip. Yeah, he had a staff that looked like a tiki torch, and a sickly green candle in his other hand. I didn't see any chanting before the summoning. The car was..." He continued, on and on, until they asked him how he carried the lion. They looked at his plump form and seemed skeptical.
"I am a quarter troll. No, they can't breed normally. It was some fae experiment. Well, you know how most hybrids are sterile? well, ten percent are usually not. Yeah, that surprised the hell out of my parents too. But that's where I get the strength. I know I look human. Apparently human appearances run stronger than troll." The cops left him alone at that, and he breathed a sigh of relief, mentally. It was a great lie, really, and he had worked on it for years. They asked for his contact information and he gave it.
Joseph watched the cops leave, and breathed a sigh of relief, for real, leaning against the counter of the animal shelter. He needed to get back to work soon. But for now he would relax after his face of calm facing the fuzz. It was more stressful than he imagined.
