I found that i can comeplete this 2nd quarter of Graphic Design and recive a certificate. I am wondering is this worth it, or should I do next year also for the degree? Do you get the same kind of treatement when finding a job with a certificate as with a degree? Does anyone have the certificate, what's your experience with it? I do know I doubt I'll follow up for a Bachelors in the feild, since I have other college career plans. GDesign will be more of a side job to help me out until then.

If you're planning on keeping GD as more of a side job, then maybe it would make more sense to finish early and move on to what you really want to do?

But having neither qualification, I can't really say sweatdrop I do know for a fact that employers look at the quality of your portfolio more than anything though, and my boss hates fresh graduates who are too slow and not so great in practice, only good in a classroom setting, or when there's not much constraints.

Thanks for the info. smile

I just got the word from a classmate that a Design degree is not nothing. What counts is your portfolio.

Though, I still have to figure out what I am gonna do, this quarter is almost done.

Why don't you take a minor in the field of graphic design and focus on getting your credits for your real major? I'd suggest doing that while you still can before winding up being short credits for what you really want to do and possibly ending up with extra time in school.

I have an Associates at the moment, but from things I've been hearing in the field a lot of employers want Bachelor's or higher and a strong portfolio. Just depends where you want to end up- small local place or a huge design firm, for example. My one boss at a local place hired me just out of high school based on my (then) pretty mediocre portfolio, but I did a lot of on the job learning and having my degree/working towards a Bachelor's did improve my standing.

GD is really my major currently. It will be a minor when I go back to college later on for Forensic Pathology.
For now I am really just interested in having a job that pays better than minimum wage, plus what I like to do. Maybe later on I will go for a Bachelor's in GD, considering I like the feild.
