The plan had been simple enough, but the execution faltered somewhere. Maybe she had waited too long. Had she waited too long? She dropped in and stabbed that knight as she had intended to do, but he was resilient. More so than she had imagined. His will to live somehow managed to overcome the combined urge to torment him carried by Alunite and Painite.
She remembered vividly watching Camelot hit Alunite as hard as he could in his panic. Now they were in the hospital, and Gently, powered down, was waiting to hear back about her companion and friend.
That stupid Eternal senshi showing up hadn't helped anything at all. A completely unexpected and unprepared for happening, and she blamed the failure of the whole mission on that senshi's arrival. But now she was more determined than anything to get back at them both.
After she made sure Alunite was okay.
For herself, she had some bruises, a dark one on her neck and some coloring her face, and a split lip from being hit with a shield, but beyond that she wasn't too bad off. Why did all of her enemies always seem to go for her face? If she weren't so worried at the moment, sitting in the waiting room and hoping the doctor would come give her permission to go and see Matthew, she might have come up with some kind of joke about it all.
She just wasn't feeling it at the moment.

Alunite had only been awake long enough to feel the energy leave him, to know that his power had, indeed, answered him.
And then he'd blacked out. He had never been aware of Painite teleporting him out, then of her bringing her here. He'd powered down in-transit, which had made things a little easier.
He had cuts, and bruises, of all kinds. Splinters stuck in his face that had to be removed. A huge bruise on his chest where the eternal senshi had kicked him with everything he had.
His worst injury was the broken rib. All in all, Matthew was not gravely injured, it was nothing that he couldn't recover from, through the doctors seemed puzzled by one thing.
People didn't pass out from broken ribs, after all.
Eventually, in the early hours in the morning, he woke up, and that was when he realized one thing.
For something so small, broken ribs hurt like a b***h. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to live, really.
It took him a moment to realize where he was, and what had to have happened.
At 4:45am, a nurse stepped out to tell Gently that Matthew was awake, and that she could go see him.

Gently couldn't help but worry endlessly. She wasn't thinking too much about the eternal or the page: there would be time for that later, she decided. Right now, she was worried about her friend. He came first, before she could run off and try to get some revenge for them both.
She felt guilty. If she hadn't been side lined, she would have been able to run over and help him. Something.
The nurse told her she could go see him and she nearly flipped out, thanking the nurse and running over to the room and slipping inside quickly enough. Probably not uncommon in this place, people worried about their friends or family, so she didn't think the nurse would yell at her. And she didn't.
"Hey," she said softly, moving to his bedside and taking his hand. She looked him over, shaking her head.
"I know you look good in purple, but this is getting a little ridiculous. How are you feeling?"

"Did you..." He coughed. "...Get the license plate of the truck that hit me ?"
That was meant as a joke, but it fell a little short.
"Im... feeling okay." The joy of painkillers, really. The reality was a little different. "I didn't know something so small could hurt this much."
He'd broken his leg once, as a kid, but it had been nothing like this.
But then, an a*****e hadn't stomped on his leg, either.
"What happened ? I think I... fired off my attack... And then..." Then nothing.

"The truck got away, I'm afraid," she shook her head, smiling thoughtfully. She couldn't shake the heaviness in her gut, though. Fear of losing him, though he was safe and the fight hadn't gotten to that level. It certainly could have, with an Eternal dropping in to ruin their fun.
Apparently the page had some friends in high places, as it were.
She lowered her voice carefully.
"Our unexpected guest ran me off. I had to get you out of there, so I did. I imagine he ran off with his little knight buddy. They might be here for all we know, but records are confidential and impossible to get to."
She spoke with a certainty that said she had tried before. It wasn't a bad idea, after all. Senshi and Negas were hurting each other all the time, and they usually ended up in a hospital. It was just a matter of timing and figuring out which of the many patients they were, or if they had come in at all, or if they had waited or went to a different hospital or... well. In theory it was a good idea. In application, she doubted anyone had ever been able to track down a senshi that way.
The magic that protected their identities didn't help.
"We'll get them next time," she said, nodding her head.

Matthew let out a groan, but it was hard to say if it was in relation to her retelling, or if the heavy bandages on his chest or his injury had made it harder to breathe.
"So damn close..." He muttered. He could almost still feel the starseed in his hand. He'd held civilian starseeds before, through had never ripped one. Hell, he had held his own starseed more than once.
But this had been nothing like it. The feeling was almost madding, even now.
"Yeah, we'll get the b*****d next time." Hopefully without him ending up in a few pieces in the process.

"I know," she said, shaking her head, "you almost had it. I saw you go for it and I really, really wanted it. I think that's what I'm going to have to do now. I want one of those knights starseed."
She looked very serious about that. The cute, sweet looking young woman carried the expression rather well, though it was almost never on her face. Dangerous, upset. No trace of her usual good spirits.
She was angry.
But the expression was gone as quickly as it came, and she smiled at him, moving to tuck him in with theatric care.
"First we have to get you better: you're no good to our revenge with broken ribs and bruises. I need you handsome and healed, please. Once you're feeling well enough to move, we'll go out and get you some energy to enjoy. Unless you feel like draining the nurses."
Which would be dangerous and a bad idea, but she put it out there anyway. She grinned, though, mostly teasing.

Matthew frowned a bit. "That's a little too crazy even for me... And hey, I kind of need those nurses."
...Well, he was hopped on painkillers. Probably the only reason how he had completely and utterly missed that point.
"Anyway, since you shish-kabobbed him good, I guess he'll be off the... scene for awhile. That was amazing at hell, seriously." Pure utter awe in his voice then, as if she'd done something amazing in a videogame, or something like that.

Gently laughed.
"That's very true. I might be a great gamer and devious mastermind, but I might not have the best bedside manner. I don't think I could pull off being a nurse, I'm afraid."
She seemed to notice that he wasn't thinking too clearly, so she went along with him as best she could. She smiled and squeezed his hand, chuckling still as she shook her head. It was still difficult to look at him and pretend everything was okay, as she was very angry about him getting hurt, but since the knight would likely be unable to power up for a while it gave them, in turn, a chance to recover as well.
"You were doing most of the work. And your attack got us out of there. When that eternal showed up... things could have gotten a lot worse than they did. Though, I have to admit, it felt awesome, running that knight through. Still, I'm jealous that you almost got his starseed."

His hand closed around her's, not tightly enough that she wouldn't have been able to leave if she'd wanted, but the message was clear.
He wanted her to stay. He didn't want to be alone, not at this moment. Alone meant nothing to distract him, and he needed to make sure he didn't try to do anything... stupid. Like run out of here hopped on painkillers looking for revenge.
"I don't even remember it going off." He admitted. "I remember thinking about doing it, then... nothing."

"Well, you did it, and that probably saved us a whole lot of Eternal butt kicking, if I'm honest. But we'll get them next time. Preferably apart. I hate how buddy buddy the knights and senshi are."
Of course, she hated most things about senshi and pretty much everything about knights. The only good thing about senshi was how fun the newbies were to scare. With knights it was different. She didn't want to scare them or even make them suffer so much, save the ones she had personal vendettas with. No, she just wanted them gone.
For good.
She smiled and held on to his hand, sticking close.
"Well, I'm not going to be going anywhere today, so unless you need a nap we need to come up with something interesting to keep us occupied. You need to let that rib heal before we even think about energy gathering or revenge or any of that."

"Well, im probably gonna sleep a lot, so..." He shook his head. He could already feel tiredness sink in. "I won't keep you, since im probably gonna be boring as hell."
But that was true. Nothing of the sort before he was healed. Too risky.
"Can you... call Ashley for me ? She needs to know." It wouldn't be pretty, but as his direct superior... She needed to know.
He still had no idea what time it was, really.

Gently smiled. "That's okay, I'll get a nurse in here to give me something to do while you sleep. And that was only meant half as dirty as it sounded, promise."
She wanted him to recover and rest, and if he needed to zonk out to do it, she couldn't complain. She certainly wouldn't keep him up: that was the whole point of the hospital, after all.
It was relief to see him talking and to remind herself that they had gotten out of things just fine. They would live to fight again, and next time there would be no escape for their targets. Every failure was a chance to improve, after all.
The more comfortable the senshi got with their winning, the more complacent they would be. The more they would underestimate. And the easier they would be to destroy.
That, at least, was how Gently liked to think of it.
"I'll talk to her, don't worry. You just relax and enjoy those drugs while you have them."

"That sounded dirty." He said before she got the chance, followed by a strained chuckle - the bandages were put on pretty tight. This was going to be a pain in the a**.
And to think, Zinkenite's plan... Drat. This was going to be interesting.
"You just want to be here to hear every stupid thing im gonna say and bring it back in my face later." He said, his amusement betrayed by the grin he was wearing.

"You know, that's probably true. I hadn't thought of it, but you've given me a good idea now. You'll just have to deal with me sitting here now."
She grinned at him, leaning back in her seat after scooting it closer. Satisfied with the angle and being able to watch the TV over the bed while still within hand's reach if he needed her, she settled in.
She was fully planning on staying there until the nurses kicked her out. Once he was asleep she'd call Ashley and let her know what had happened.
In short terms, at least. She didn't like to discuss 'the business' over the phone. It wasn't like Senshi had wire taps, but she still felt it was better to play safe over sorry, and all that. So she had her little plan, and she relaxed.
