xxxxxWedged between a tattoo parlor and a craft store sits the Mad Bean Coffee Shop.
After opening ten years ago, it has become a place of peace and comfort where strangers meet and socialize. As such, this shop has been able to keep afloat through it all - not to say that funds were never tight. With the increase of business as of late, there have been enough funds to refurnish the store.

To take part in this environment, there are certain rules that need to be followed:

"IC only"

"Anyone can enter the shop"

"No fighting within the shop"

"Respect everyone"

"Do not destroy the shop. We're too poor to replace anything"

"Anyone can roleplay a waitress/waiter to help move things along. Later there will be applications for workers"

Behind the bright lights and warming coffee hides a little shop called "Would-Be". It is the real reason behind the Mad Bean success because this illegal shop brings in a large amount of revenue daily. Its customers range from the most evil to the most pure, all brought together for the sake of secrecy since the shop will never reveal a super idenity. To get such aid, you must enter through a wooden door at the back of the Mad Bean. Doing so will lead you to a small back room with a single brown couch and multiple pictures across the walls.

As you go through life you'll see, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
There is so much that we don't understand.

"& so..."

xxxxDahlia had found herself stumbling into a small coffee shop. Her hands clinging to the strap of her bag as her eyes paced the room. Contray to her expectations from seeing the outside of the shop, she was happily surprised to see a modern theme. It sent a mild smile to her lips which kept strong as she headed for the barside. "Oh, um, a small english toffee?" Doll had ignored the menu board and thought she'd gently throw out an order. Fortunatly, it seemed that they did serve it and accepted her request silently. The healer dropped a few coins into the worker's hand and moved along the line. As she awaited the drink, her mind began to wander. It came upon a nervous subject: her interview with the hero's side.

Dahlia wished for nothing more than to make a good impression. She prayed for it. Her gift could never be used anywhere else. "What good is healing to a villian anyhow?" She broaded, trying to better understand her options. However, when her order was called she had only ended up with two: Join the heroes or live ignorantly. Only the first appealed to her; however, as she set her hands around a mug, Dahlia put the thought to rest and moved her mind to more present things.

Taking a seat in a booth in the far corner of the shop, the woman let her drink rest on the table. Her attention in a limbo between the people around her. Yet between a strange skinny mohawked man in the table besider her and a cubby short redheaded woman across, Dahlia considered none of them company - or rather, lacked the confidence to awkwardly make them company with a quick 'hello' and such. It seemed for now, this young lady would be an awkard turtle, banished to the far corner.

And the only thing we know,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxIs things don't always go the way we planned.

Joseph Achilles Leverett:

Joseph arrived at the Mad Bean a little out of breath. Determined to get there early, he had nearly run the block from the train station. Miles from his work, he took off the jacket he used at work, but didn't change his pants or boots.

The mildly overweight and short man stepped into the coffee shop almost suspicious of it. Joseph had never been here, so he had to scout the location before arriving. It was ingrained habit, and probably not healthy for social living. But everyone had their vices. After wandering through the shop, looking for the exits, bathrooms and staff doors, acting as if he was looking for someone, he picked a table where he could keep an eye on the main entrance and the workers of the coffee house. It was a little closer to other people than he would have liked, but beggars couldn't be choosers.

He was wearing plain polo like he had in the park, but his pants were heavy and intended for work, spattered with oil and dirt. His boots were steel-toed and well-worn, and he was sporting just a small amount of stubble on his face.

He ordered a panini and some tea, paid and sat down, waiting for the arrival of his, errr, compatriot? Lunch partner? He waited for Lizzy, at least, not wasting time trying to figure out what to call her yet.

Known to all as...ϟPhoenixϟ
There is no such thing as a lost battle☮ There is only a loss of heart

Why Phoenix found herself loitering around the Mad Bean at this time in the afternoon was a mystery, and yet, she couldn't keep away either. On break from the Bistro, Phoenix had gone on a stroll throughout the city and before she had quite grasped the ideas swarming through her head, she had found herself boarding the intercity bus line and finding herself about two stores down from the respectable coffee shop. Mildly surprised at finding herself in such a location, Phoenix had first wandered around aimlessly, wondering why instinct had brought her here. Finally though, after about ten minutes baking in the sun, she finally made up her mind to head inside and grab herself a drink or two. After all, she was already here, so why not make the most out of it?

As she approached the doors of the Mad Bean, a refreshing gust of wind blew by, blowing around her black hair and sending the transparent glittery scarf she was wearing nearly ripping off her neck. For once, she wasn't wearing her trademark black leather gloves, and for the rest of her outfit, she had opted for a low, but not daringly low, v-necked starched blue blouse with a small amount of ruffle on the sleeves. As usual, she had blue jeans on, optimally ripped in several places. Taking a deep breath, Phoenix opened the door, wincing as it clanged shut behind her.

The first thing she noticed was that at one of the tables near the door was a man that looked strangely familiar. For a minute, she couldn't recognize who he was as he wasn't facing her, but as his eyes roamed around the shop, the mental link clicked and her eyes widened. Before she could stop herself, the outburst appeared out of her mouth, "J-Joseph?"

Joseph Achilles Leverett:

Joseph, busy glancing between the counter where he expected his food and the door saw that the Asian woman was not his blue haired target, so his gazed slid off her like quicksilver.

When she said his name, however, he jumped and looked back at her. Could Morph Change that much!? No... this was Phoenix? How on gods earth did she- He was being followed. It had to be. She was hunting him down. Did Morph spill the beans? He was being set up. He glanced at the other exits. Still not sealed, were they running behind? Could he rush out before being trapped? Surely they wouldn't start in on him somewhere public.

Joseph stood and backed away from her, a pleasant smile on his face. "Phoenix... what a surprise... I mean, what are the chances you would show up here, at this time, am I right?"

He could grab a chair and hurl it at her, but not until she did something threatening. His hand did tighten on the chair, just in case she did something like shoot green lasers or something. "You meeting someone here too?" There was a cold chill to his words, not in character with his generally genial demeanor from before. But he wouldn't start violence here, not in a public place. Not unless she started it, and clearly so.

----------
OoC: You just make Joseph feel all warm and fuzzy inside, Phoenix. =P

Also, since he introduced himself to you and Lizzy as "Jeff" in the park, I am assuming that Luciana meant to say that. If she says Joseph, he will have fled in a heart beat.

Lizzy took lunch a little bit before she normally would, walked down to the coffee shop. It was really only a couple blocks away and she could use some air. She probably smelled like spray starch and detergent The woman had been prepping all morning and it really took a lot of work. When she arrived at the coffee shop, right on time, she was pleasantly surprised to see that Joseph was waiting for her. It looked like he was talking to someone and... He was wearing work pants. What did he do that he would get his pants to filthy and needed such industrial material? She would have to ask. The girl herself wore blue heels and a little striped dress. It was a very nice look on her. The woman he was talking to was Asian... Was that the woman from the park? Was she stalking her? She didn't recall being followed, maybe Joseph set her up... He sold her out or something! The blue haired girl stood right in front of the door not saying anything at first, but finally deciding that she should play it off like she didn't care and then when they thought they had her she would just slip out of their grasp.

"Oh, Jeff. I didn't expect to see you here before me, Normally I'm the one on time and whom ever I'm meeting with a late. "

She forced a smiled and walked to stand next to the chair across from him, her eyes strayed to the other woman and she looked puzzled. As id she were trying to recall a name. And she knew what name she wanted to shout, but it was rather rude and would give away the fact that she knew this was a trap... She should probably warn Joseph that if he tried to pull this on her he was dead and so quietly she spoke, leaning in towards him a little.

"If this is what I think it is I swear to god I'll shove my fist in your mouth and rip out your skull."

So threats were not the best way to go about this kind of thing but she was panicking and it was the best thing she had. Her heart pounded in her chest and everything in her being told her to just run. She could get away from these two, they couldn't catch her.

Phoenix herself was a bit suspicious that she should find Jeff at the coffee shop at the exact same hour of day. It has to be a coincidence She thought furiously to herself, the cogs in her mind working madly. After all, what are the chances that he's following me? Then again, considering Jeff's behavior in the park a few days ago, he was probably thinking that she was stalking him. As if! Phoenix wasn't sure what made people so paranoid, but she couldn't think of one good reason why she'd even want to follow Jeff around in the first place. After all, it wasn't like she was interested in his life and his daily come and go. Besides, what could she do to him? Even with her abilities, it wasn't like Phoenix would be able to collapse the ground beneath him.

"Not at all Jeff," She replied in a cool and detached manner, not exactly offended but still somewhat on edge. "I'm just here grabbing a cup of coffee before I head back to work," Saying so, Phoenix went up to the counter and deliberately stared at the order board hanging above the service counter for an excruciatingly long time. She was waiting to see what Jeff would do next. He was clearly on edge, glaring daggers at her. What if he started going berserk and throwing stuff? No, that wasn't possible. He would keep under control.

Just then, Phoenix remembered Joseph asking her, "You meeting someone here to?" and she started violently, nearly losing her concentration from the order menu. Did that mean that he was expecting someone? If so, who? Was he trying to get backup so that he could confront her later? No, no, no Phoenix! You're getting ahead of yourself! She scolded mentally, trying to keep her cool. The door to the coffee shop suddenly opened at that moment and spinning around, Phoenix found herself only a few feet away from the all too familiar blue hair. Lizzy! Clearly, she was here to back Jeff up, wasn't she? Trying to keep herself calm and collected, Phoenix finally placed an order of a small mocha and taking the coffee, she rubbed her forehead wearily with her free hand and moved towards the back of the shop. She couldn't take this for much longer. What if Lizzy and Joseph were going to make a move on her? What would she do then?

Joseph Achilles Leverett:

Seeing that both of the women were doubly shocked when they saw each other, he calmed down, his grip loosening on the chair. Each of them thought the other two were in on this scheme. What are the chances that someone is hunting all three of them down? And it would be a tactical idiocy for Phoenix to show up obviously so. Unless the idea was to make lull him into false security. Still, this was not the time nor the place. it was too public, and it had a reputation of being nasty to those who started trouble.

He turned to Lizzy and, with some effort, calmed down and tried to return to being just normal Joseph, "
I try to make it an effort to not keeping people waiting long. I, err, might have lapsed recently, but I try." He smiled in response to what she whispered in his ear and said in a quiet, cold voice, "In complete honesty, I was going to say something similar to you. But clearly we are both in the dark here."

He turned to Pheonix, saying, pleasant again. "
What a miraculous coincidence. Sorry if my jumpiness puts us, once again, at odds. I really am sorry." He smiled, abashed, though mentally he was tired of the act. He was not here to play "Jeff", the kindly short pudgy guy. He was here to play "Joseph", the short, somewhat friendly pudgy guy who was far more canny than he ought to be. So far, it had fallen on its face.

Lizzy smiled at his correction... This guy sure had some random sense of not keeping people waiting. He also seemed to not know why the asian woman was there at that time to it might actually be a coincidence. It still might be a trap but she would have to act like she was at ease. Alright then... She needed to eat something. The blue haired young woman walked up to the counter and ordered herself a cup of soup and a glass of fruit juice. The juice was handed to her right away but she would have to wait a bit on the soup. Lizz walked back over to the table and sat down across from Joseph.

"Good luck at work Then."

She smiled at the woman before turning to face the guy she had come here to talk to. Her smile was still there but he would probably be able to tell it was forced. Lizzy took a sip of her drink and smoother her bangs.

Phoenix halfheartedly waved Jeff's apology away and managed to put on a somewhat convincing, but a touch weak smile. "Nah, it should be me saying sorry. I shouldn't have even come in here in the first place,"
She quietly went back to sipping the coffee she had just bought, but it was already tasting cold and bitter in her mouth. My taste buds must be dead after all the excitement. She thought wryly, removing the cup from her lips and simply toying with the sides of it, spinning it between her fingers.
Could it really be just a coincidence that we should all meet up here? I mean sure, Jeff and Lizzy had a meeting together, but what am I doing here anyway?

Remembering that right before entering the coffee shop, a little voice had been screaming inside her head to tell her to stop and go back to Dresden Street, Phoenix groaned and rubbed her free hand on her forehead. I really need to trust that gut instinct more...
Finished with her drink, Phoenix took the still half full contents and threw them in the nearby trashcan before making her way towards the door. As she passed by Jeff and Lizzy, she gave another halfhearted smile before opening the door and stepping outside.

Joseph Achilles Leverett:

He sighed, and said to Pheonix as she left, "Sorry again," knowing he had taken a normal everyday situation and made it into a crisis.

There was a little stand on the table, indicating he had ordered something, which they should bring by shortly. He asked her, "
What would you like to eat? Like I said, I would cover it, as part of my apology to you. I already ordered something for myself." He watched her nervously, clearly his fear and annoyance had drained away, but he might have just been acting.

Joseph was never sure if he was acting all the time or not, either. It was instinct to quash emotions when they rose unbidden. Self defense, no doubt, but it made for being normal very very difficult. Did everyone do that? He wouldn't dare ask, not Lizzy at least. She already knew too much about him for his comfort, at least for now.

Lizzy was a bit confused, didn't he see her just walk over to the counter and order herself something? Joseph was probably not paying attention to her so much as he was watching the Asian girl. He had seemed tense after all. She would let it go.

"Actually I just ordered. I got the soup."

She smiled and took another sip of her juice. Sugary drinks like juice were a must. She needed all the liquid calories she could get, and the easy to absorb fruit sugars really gave her a little boost of energy. Lizzy needed to make very conscious choices with her food, going for the highest sources of minerals and vitamins as well as high calorie things. Not that she would explain any of this to her lunch partner.

"It looked good, what did you order?"

The young blue haired woman crossed her legs and sat back in her chair very casually as if she hadn't a care in the world. She was good at acting normal, good at small talk and lunch dates. Once the fear of being attacked was gone she felt fine about her choices. The woman from before he left and Joseph seemed calmer now too.

"... sorry about threatening you. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that."

PostPosted: Mon Aug 01, 2011 2:39 pm

Joseph Achilles Leverett:

He nodded, of course she ordered her food, and sat down as she did. "I got a panini. A personal favorite." He took a drink from his tea, and set it down as she apologized to him.

This would be interesting for him. He never talked like this to anyone but the other person who knew his identities. Ah well, here we go.
"No, don't apologize for that. No need. I didn't apologize for doing the same. In our line, threats are to "thank you, come again" to cashiers." He smiled, seeming all at less nervous and more confident than he had ever before, even compared to when he was being coldly angry. More honest too. "I wanted to talk about terms. I agree to never let slip an iota of information about you, as long as you do the same for me. I am not brandishing any sort of blackmail here, but, to be fair, I do know more about you than you do about me. So, as long as you are willing to trust my discretion, I can trust yours."

He didn't necessarily believe that completely, but it was a start, and declaration of peace. One he sorely needed for her to agree to abide by. He wrapped his scared palm around the drink again, as he looked away, looking shy, and more nervous again, "
And I really am sorry. About not calling. I, ah, make it a habit to not make friends. Never worked out before. "
