Mist rolled over the green hills, giving an air of mystery too all the surroundings. It drifted through trees, clung to grass, and condensed on leaves to drip to the ground. Perhaps all the water would have been a turn-off to the fire-based species known as Modidaevas, but Bane was unique among his kind that he was a little water-based himself.
He was wandering around under the trees, taking stock of their condition and marveling again at his fortune in finding this place. At one point this was probably a well-tended orchid, full of fruit trees. Everything was growing wild now, but Bane could see the remenants of straight lines that humans were so fond of.
He was actually on something of an island, though it probably wasn't always so. Bane could certainly see that a rise in the water levels could cut off this one spot and force humans to abandon it. After all the surrounding land was quite hilly.
It wasn't a long swim to the island from the mainland, which was why Bane was so surprised it had stayed vaccant. Perhaps the short swim was a turn off to normals, and the ever present ocean mist a turn off for Phims and normal Daevas. It did sort of make sense, in a way.
Bane sighed through his nose in contentment. Whatever the reason, he was glad. He liked his solitude, Bane did.

Aoi was patiently waiting in a tree, slightly damp from her excursion, yawning as she flopped a leg off the branch. Oh, she was not the most modest vixen, but it didn't matter. She had just swam to this damn little island on a whim with Freya. Her green friend had bet her that she couldn't swim to the island, and smartly Aoi had turned to her and told her that she could, but Freya would have to swim the distance, too. Or else she couldn't prove Aoi swam to it! She was hoping Freya would decline, but the competitive female puffed her chest out, raised her head, and accepted the challenge.
Aoi had won, and in a furious whirl of green fur, Freya had dashed off to swim across again, return home, and would return with a friend so that they could all race! Wait, why? Aoi hadn't been able to question her best friends logic before she had dashed off. This was recently, and here Aoi was, drying off in a tree.
So when she spotted a bubble she was slightly confused. She wasn't underwater anymore, so what was it? She pawed at it, startled. Wait, she was in a tree, so how was she seeing bubbles? She lowered her head, blinking when she spotted a large 'Daeva, nearly recoiling in alarm and almost falling out of her tree.
's**t, is that a... 'Daeva? And the bubbles... So I'm not underwater.'

Bane's head snapped up immediately at the movement of branches over his head. He knew there were no large predators in this area, or prey, and whatever was in the tree was definetly large. Multi-colored flames sprang up around his feet, raising steam from the moist earth and lightly singing the grass.
"Who's up there," he said harshly, eyes scanning the tree line. "Who's here?" Normally Bane wasn't aggressive, but he didn't like the thought of something or someone invading his peaceful home.
((*pokes* That singing the grass? It's singe, not sing XD That lack of an e in there does make for a confusing word. Just thought I'd poke you so you knew.))

Her head peeked over a branch, black eyes locking on the male and indifferently looking away to judge how to get down it. When she realized it'd result in her landing in front of the rather demanding 'Daeva. She finally gave the male a glance when she figured out how to make herself visible to the male.
"It doesn't matter who I am, more like what if you suspect someone to be dangerous." She mused. "But if you insist. Aoi. I'm Aoi." With this she retracted her glow enough so he wouldn't notice it. She wasn't a fan of people judging her by her glow. Wait, was he the one emitting bubbles? Her eyes spotted his multicolored flames, blinking.
If he had flames, how was he doing that then?

Bane peered up through the branches. The glow puzzled him slightly. It couldn't be fire, it was far too steady and lasted too long. A real flame would have set the tree on fire by them. Ugh, he didn't like mysteries...
"Well then, Aoi," he said, eyes narrowing. "Just what are you doing here on this island? It's not known for being a place of pleasures." That was a little white lie. His island wasn't known for much at all, so that part was true enough. Once someone got a good look at the place though, they'd probably fall in love with it.

Aoi blinked from where she was in the branch, squirming slightly. So, the male was not giving his name? She stayed where she was, curious if he could see her, amused if he couldn't. Finally, she felt that it wasn't really fair that she gave her name when he in turn hadn't done the proper thing and returned his own. Hey, Runaiu liked to teach manners, it was good to have sometimes.
"What's your name?" She asked, ignoring his previous questions. She'd answer when he answered her. He needed some manners, anyway. She made sure to keep her glow close to her, not wanting the male to even dare think up some stupid, demeaning nickname for her because of her freakish glow.

Bane snorted. "I asked a question first," he countered. "If you wanted to know my name you should have asked when you gave me yours. Now answer my question and I'll answer yours."
His eyes narrowed as they slowly swept through the branches. "You aren't so well hidden as you think, and I could easily get up in that tree. I am not accustomed to company appearing in my home with no previous announcement, so maybe you can see why I'd be more than a little tense at your intrusion."
It all seemed perfectly reasonable to Bane, of course. He was sure the female wasn't going to take too kindly to his attitude, but if she thought he was just going to cave in she had another thing coming. After he assessed his home was in no danger, then he'd try for a bit more decorum.

First, she was not accustomed to being bickered at. Aoi rolled her eyes at the hiding remark, rustling the branch as she stood and leapt down, revealing her full form. She scanned the 'Daeva, quirked an eyebrow, and sneered.
"Now look here, this place doesn't even smell marked by you. You can't claim a whole island. Also, I wasn't hiding. I merely wanted to rest in a tree, far from some bulking bully that thinks he can ruffle his wings at me."
She clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth, snorted at him in clear annoyance, and let her glow release. Hell, he was weird looking, too. So why bother hiding it? "Besides, how is some smaller vixen who can't even do anything but glow hurt your "home". To answer your previous rude demands, I was here because my friend and I were racing here. I am waiting for her return so we can perhaps spend the night, then return home. Now, your name."

Bane rolled his eyes. "If you can't tell, it's very wet around here," he said, looking significantly around at all the mist. "Makes it hard to keep up a scent. And you make "a whole island" sound so large. It's really only a few acres, a perfectly acceptable range and detached from the mainland so as not to get in the way of easier to reach land." Which wasn't entirely a lie; the island was really about as big as the land those human creatures called "farmers" claimed. Maybe just a touch bigger.
Bane was still a bit disgruntled about that, actually. He knew that the island wasn't that far from the mainland, and by that far he meant that you could see it from the cliffs on a clear day. Really, you could fit a whole other island in the ocean between the mainland and "his" island, and only probably a bit bigger too. He'd hoped that distance, plus the lack of good visability most days from the mist, would keep others away. Well, he supposed it had since this was the first intrustion he ever had to face...
He sighed, and shrugged. "Anyway I'm not so much worried about you "hurting" it. I just like my privacy." He glanced at the tree Aoi had been in, noting that no major damage had been done, then turned his attention to the trees in the orchard. This section was all apple, pretty hardy things, and Bane wasn't nearly as protective of them as he was his cherry trees. "And my name is Bane," he tacked to the end, content that he'd gotten his say in.

Aoi clicked her tongue, seemingly amused. Was this male snipping back at her? Strange. She seemed content where she was, simply looking about. If Freya could not find her, she would return home herself eventually. Either way, Aoi was the kind to think things through. If she was stuck in an island surrounded by lava, she'd simply wait for the lava to cool and then cross it. Why panic? There was always a way out.
Now, she was stuck here, being interrogated by a 'Daeva when all she wanted was a little nap. She blinked at him, flicking her tail until a bubble came close to her, pawing at it lightly. Finally, she raised an eyebrow at him, head cocking to the side.
"Bane." She confirmed, nodding. "So, how did you find this place then?"

Bane shrugged. "Born here," he said simply. Sharing personal history wasn't much his thing. Just looking at this female, he had the idea that she could be annoyingly obsinate. For a brief moment he comtemplated picking her up and flying her tush off his land and back to the mainland, but there was always the chance she'd remember how to get back here and would invade his home in a worse way than she was doing now...
Better to play nice for now, then.

Well, there was no reason for more chit-chat. He was making it painfully clear that he was not pleased with her existence on this island, and Aoi knew from experience she would snip at him if he continued to give her that stare that she didn't belong. She was a normally laid back, honest, sometimes painfully blunt vixen, but she never let others push her around.
So, with little more than a shrug she climbed back into her tree, yawned, and rested her head to watch Bane. "You probably shouldn't give that look to Freya, she's a lot more defensive than I am."

Bane initially stiffened, but ordered himself to relax. He was not getting into a fight with this female, cause females were always convinced that they were right and anything he said was probably just going to be seen as an attack on her being completely in the right. Huh, see how she liked it when Bane invaded her home without warning.
"I don't know what look you're talking about," he said in a neutral tone, "but as this is my home I believe I'm perfectly entitled to giving whatever looks I like. Think of this as a territorial tribe and I'm the elder and single member all rolled into one."

"Oh, tribes. How bland."
She had been raised to detest tribes by her blue mother, Runaiu. She had something against them for some odd reason or another. Even though her adopted brother had once been in a tribe her mother still seemed to detest the idea of one of her own being in one. Flicking her tail back and forth, Aoi raised an eyebrow at Bane.
"That's no fun," She mused lightly. "Being alone on an island. I'm not saying it doesn't have its pleasures, I like solitude as well. However once in awhile a person could use a chat." Flicking her tail once more, she allowed her right back leg to drape over her branch.
"What is there fun to do around?" She asked lightly, attempting to lighten the situation. She wasn't leaving, and Bane wasn't budging, so why not try and lighten the mood a tad, yes? She was fairly stubborn, after all. "And if you're so protective of this place, where can't I go?"

Bane's first inital thought in answer to Aoi's question would have been, 'Anywhere,' but he suppressed that from passing his lips at the last moment. Perhaps Aoi had a point about being on an island alone for long periods of time. Certainly his social graces were horribly lacking, and he knew it, but since no one had bothered him on this island until this point it didn't see to really make a different before.
Before...
He tried to come up with a politer response and to "ease up" on his stringent attitude. Since she had come here from the mainland and trasped up to this point in his island, "I'd rather you didn't leave the apple orchard," Bane said, then, in reclutant tones, "at least not without my permission to view other parts of the island. As for fun I wouldn't know. I've never really played games before."
Which was completely true. Bane had been alone as a kit and alone as an adult. Perhaps deciding he needed to guard his island as a kit made him too serious-minded, but he usually spent most of his days just touring around the different areas and making sure all was right.
