With all that had happened lately. Darryl had pretty much forgotten hard about Marcella until the older girl called her to hang out. She'd pinned her innattention on summer classes, which wasn't quite true, but she couldn't really think of anything better.

She didn't really have the spare money for much of anything, but she figured she could at least show up and hang out, maybe buy one thing to drink if the cafe waitress got pissy about it.

And so, with her newly repaired skateboard, she had rolled her way to the cafe, and was now waiting outside, board in hand and laying against the brick wall, for Marcella to show up.

Marcella was not usually one for just hanging out, but work had been rough today, and she found herself wanting someone to talk to. It was one of those days where she was worried that, if she tried to hang out with Nate, his teasing would drive her to tears, too. He could be a nice guy, but really, she was not in the mood for him. And, in truth, her senshi phone contact list was starting to exceed the list of contacts on her actual cell phone, too. But when she saw Darryl's name on the list, she figured calling the younger girl might not hurt.

She still felt sort of like she hardly knew her, but thought she might offer to treat the lavender-haired girl to something at Morsels, the fancy little cake store. As long as the girl from Saint Magdalena's did not take the gesture the wrong way, Marcella hoped that, in cheering Darryl up, she might cheer herself up.

Ordinarily she would have been there early, and, well, she was, but Morsels' parking lot was tiny. Marcella had parked a few blocks away and fed a meter to do so, which was no problem for her, and then walked from there. She saw Darryl already waiting as she approached, and waved.

"Hey, I hope you haven't been waiting too long," she called out. "This place has about five parking spaces, and one of them is handicapped."

This place looked ********, this place looked fancy.

And there was one Darryl, looking nothing remotely close to a girl who could fit in such a place - but at least those clothes had no holes in them. Yet.

The jeans were awfully faded, but other than that...

"Hey !" She waved for Marcella as she came toward her. "Yeah, I noticed this parking lot was tiny. It's okay, I've only just arrived." She grinned. Even if she had been waiting, well, it had never really been an issue for her.

Marcella was dressed up a little, but then she was always dressed up, except when she was in scrubs. The little specialty cake store was hardly black-tie, at least. Morsels understood that all sorts of people liked cakes.

She eyed the skateboard with curiosity as she moved towards the door, mostly curious whether Darryl would take it in with her or leave it outside. Marcella reached for the door and pulled it open, gesturing for the younger girl to go ahead inside first. "Have you been here before?" she asked. "I come here every now and then, because some days I just need cake."

One foot propped the door open and she reached up to rub her eye. "Like today."

Darryl did, indeed, take the skateboard inside with her. It was too risky to leave something this small outside - it could too easily be snatched and stolen.

Another option would have been to lock it up in Marcella's car, but she wasn't sure the girl wanted to walk the walk this soon after finally getting here.

"It's my first time here." Darryl admitted. There were only a few restaurants she was truly familiar with. Fast food joints. Dollar menus were amazing things. "It looks quite nice..."

When Marcella elaborated, through, the younger girl's brow creased in from worry. "Who do I need to go punch ?"
PostPosted: Thu Jul 21, 2011 10:44 pm

"A bit pricey," Marcella conceded, but added, "It's my treat, since you've never been here." Usually she was wary of this, having had several supposed friends try to take advantage of her kindness in the past. But that had been a long time ago; the brown-haired girl had had precious few friends in the interim. She felt like taking a chance on Darryl for some reason, though. Sort of like she had done with Nate.

Having magic space powers sure had made her act weird lately. All these friends.

"Oh, no one," she replied with an amused, if slightly weary, smile. "Work was just busy today. Lots of people in the hospital."

Once they were inside, the brown-haired girl stepped up to the counter, but made sure to stand to one side, so she would not block Darryl's view of the selection of sweets. Marcella glanced them over, herself, but already had her mind pretty much made up. While her friend picked something out, she could rummage in her purse for her phone.

"You came from the hospital?" the store proprietor asked, stepping over to stand opposite the two girls behind the counter. "I think one of your patients came from just a few blocks down," he added, pointing with a thumb back over his shoulder. "There were sirens maybe an hour or so ago, and I heard from some people coming in here that someone got attacked or something."

Marcella looked up, shoulders slumping. "Really?" Though she tried to keep in mind where those patients with particularly strange injuries had come from, there were so many going through each day that she could not realistically keep track of them all. She must have completely missed whatever poor unfortunate fellow had been the victim in this neighborhood.

Still, though, if there was a youma around, maybe she would have to be the one doing the punching.

.... Marcella hoped she could at least get her little cake first.

"Ah, really ?" Darryl looked a little embarassed at that, but... she figured that if she'd had the money, she'd be offering to do the same, so could she really blame Marcella for it ? "Thank you." She said with a smile, stepping up beside her near the counter, skateboard resting under one arm.

She was, of course, eyeing the cheaper side of the menu, if only by pure reflex, and thankfully was able to keep her reaction to herself. Damn this was pricy...

She couldn't help but frown a bit at the exchange the proprietor and Marcella had. That sounded like trouble was brewing nearby, and part of her was hoping not to have to deploy her secret identity.

That would be awkward. And Hesperis definitively wasn't going to rise to duty without some cake.

If only she'd known how similar and and her friend's thought were, she would probably have laughed.

Through, it meant she had to chose fast. "This one ?" She pointed toward a white chocolate and raspberry cake. "If that's alright ?"

Marcella was rather hoping to avoid having to henshin, too, especially since she was still kind of on the tired side. Being Asclepius would give her something of a second wind, but she had learned from experience that it would all come crashing back down on her when she changed back to her plain normal self.

"That's cool," she assured Darryl, ordering the white-chocolate raspberry cake for her friend, and a chocolate-hazelnut one for herself.

"Anything for you ladies to drink?" the man inquired as he slid the cake display case open.

"Ahhh...." The brown-haired girl considered for a moment, then replied, "Medium coffee with room for me, please." She did not drink coffee too often, but she felt like she needed it today. And she had it with cake often enough, to balance the sweetness. Then she glanced to Darryl, smiling to indicate that she could cover a drink, as well.

Darryl had been just about to say she'd take nothing, or maybe just water, when Marcella looked at her. She was a little unused to having people spend on her, and honestly she wasn't completely sure how to take it.

As long as it wasn't pity, she could take it.

"A glass of milk, maybe ?" Again, she gave the older girl an inquisive glance. Hopefully that wasn't too expensive...

In a place that would serve organic soy double-shot sugar-free hazelnut-almond flavor shot iced mocha-ccino lattes, milk was hardly a problem. Marcella nodded and placed the order, then paid, then turned back to Darryl, smiling a little.

"I guess we can wait here for everything, then grab a table," she said, "Since there doesn't seem to be any shortage of places to sit for right now." It looked like the two girls were the only patrons in the store for the moment. The brown-haired girl wondered momentarily if it had anything to do with the recent attack so close by. "Or, if you want," she went on, "You can sit down with your skateboard and I'll bring everything when it's ready?"

The man behind the counter had just finished placing the second of the cakes on a tray for the girls, and was checking how much ready-brewed coffee was still in the tall silver container.

Marcella glanced towards the window, and asked Darryl, "Is it okay if we sit by the window?" She chewed her lip momentarily before lowering her voice and adding, "Just... in case there's still a monster or something out there, I ... I'd feel better if we could see it coming, you know?" Did she sound too eager? The girl rarely found reasons to lie, and so could not be sure the worry she was going for came through properly. She wanted to be ready in case she needed to be Asclepius to fight, but did not want to risk letting on to her friend that she was one of the magical warriors that roamed Destiny City.

True, the place was empty. She expected to see people - it was rare when any restaurant or cafe was truly empty, really.

"Yeah, I don't think we'd have a problem with that." Part of her didn't like this. This spoke of trouble. Her spider (page ?) sense was tingling. Especially if a youma had been spotted earlier. "Oh, it's fine, i'll wait for ya." She grinned. Leave no woman behind !

Or something.

"Window's fine with me, through... hopefully there won't be any nasty creepies wrecking out afternoon." She was frowning now, looking a little too worried to simply be a clueless civilian.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 10:10 am

Marcella nodded as Darryl agreed to wait with her, feeling a bit of someone unexpected relief at the thought that they would be sticking together. Crossing her arms, she twitched one foot slightly as she attempted to come up with a conversation topic; the only things that came to mind to ask or mention, though, all seemed to have to do with monsters and the people who fought them, which never struck Marcella as appropriate to bring up with civilian friends. Well, except for Nate. But other than her vaguely delinquent friend whom she now knew to be Sailor Chaonis, Marcella really could not be sure who was on her side.

The arrival of her plain coffee gave her an excuse not to have to converse for the immediate moment, at least, and Marcella could stop twitching while she moved the coffee to the end of the pickup table and added half-and-half. The brown-haired girl looked back to Darryl for a moment, then out the window, then to the store proprietor as he set out a tray with Darryl's glass of milk and the pair of cakes.

She was about to pick up the tray when she noticed rings forming on the surface of the milk, like the whole bar and its cake displays were shaking. Maybe the whole floor. Marcella's brows drew together, and she placed one hand flat on the countertop to see if she could figure out what was shaking as she asked Darryl, "Do you hear something?"

Darryl didn't seem to notice the lull in conversation at all, and was also going for the tray when the whole place started shaking.

Thump

Thump

Thump...

Well ********. They'd summoned it.

There was no time to find an hiding place - some big and scaly crashed out the window, ending up with Darryl raising her arm to protect her eyes from flying glass shards.

Damn, they were taking inspiration from movies, now ? Thankfully, this t-rex was on the undersized side. The clerk had fled got knew where, the rest of the cafe was empty.

It was just her and Marcella. She could dash off somewhere to power up, but that meant leaving the older girl vulnerable to the big scaly ugly thing over there. Darryl didn't like that option... So there was only one option left.

"I promise there is a logical explanation to what you're about to see, okay ?" Even as she spoke, her staff was materializing in front of her. "Later, through."

She took the staff and in a brief flash of light, was Hesperis. And Hesperis wasted no time going against the big, ugly youma.

"Hey, ugly ! Your mother was a gecko and your father smelled of swamp gunk !"

...Creative, at least.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2011 4:00 pm

Marcella staggered back as the thing crashed through the window, throwing up one hand to shield her eyes, and hissing between her teeth as hot coffee rolled down the other arm. Tossing the cup away, she regained her balance, and glanced to see if Darryl was alright just in time to see the girl change. And immediately go on the offensive.

Whatever she felt at seeing the Page spring into action - relief, amusement, bewilderment - would have to wait. She wasted no time reaching for her henshin pen, in its own pocket in her purse, to power up, herself.

"This is also perfectly logical," Marcella replied, then shouted, "Asclepius Asteroid Power, make up!"

Once in her senshi form, Asclepius felt greater relief that the one fighting beside her was, indeed, a Knight like Camelot was.

She took no time to hurl insults, but ran straight in, aiming a kick at the beast's knee. The Senshi of Medicine would be reluctant to admit it, but she was starting to get used to fighting; still, she envied her ally's weapon, with its reach.

...Whut.

Had she not been busy smacking the youma about while avoiding sharp teeth and talons, she might as well have stopped and stared at Marcella - now Asclepius - like she'd just grown another head.

...Well alright then.

"Looks like that's gonna be one hell of a storytime." She said, amused. But for now, the youma was of greater importance.

Legs were appatrently the go-to thing, because a good whack right at the back of it's other knee send the dinosaur wannabe down.
