Is ripping sprites stealing if you do not use the material for profit or self gain but only to make fun games for people and give full credit to the original creators?
  Yes.
  No.
Only if you take credit for their work.
I have no damn clue. @_@

What does ripping sprites mean? It means taking a image from a game and removing all around it and behind it... Like... taking many pictures then croping out the image you want out of it. Doing this in 3D videos games requires a LOT of patience, skill, good hands and eyes, even sometimes luck. I will not go into teaching this on this thread or any other unless asked to do so. But I am adding this thread here to show people that you can take ANY image from ANY game and make your own games with it. Utilizing those images to do whatever you want. Editing them, adding material to them.. etc. Like making your very own Tekken verse Mortal Kombat? Well.. You actually can. ^^ But you still need to know how to script, code, design, program, format, and much more... I digress from that. The point of this thread is this. I do not see the harm in using art from video games as long as the original creators are given credit. It is using their work without their permission. But most of these game developers are so greedy anymore it is insane. Games are becoming gabage as time continues and all they care about is money margins.. Here is a example of ripping sprites... This is Akuma a.k.a Gouki from Street Fighter 4 doing his wrath of the raging demon. I ripped this myself. User Image Gif image speed is wrong. But does not matter. As with this animation.. this is only one piece. Alone this is nothing... and looks awful. I can not take all detail from SF4 along with Gouki/Akuma without removing layers from the game till only the one layer I want to rip remains... And in most cases this requires a lot of editing to the games data and much more. Very time consuming. And not worth it in many cases. So I add my own image to it to fix what was lost from the original ripping. This... User Image His aura flames. But still this is not enough... What about the full screen FMV that happens when the move hits? Easily ripped... ^^ User Image The FMV scene when ripped loses some quality... But retains it's appearance. And here is a video of what I did with the many sprites I ripped from SF4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0XobZWHc8c I changed their material and made it MUCH MUCH different and more. However the original material belongs to capcom. In your opinion the reader.... Is this stealing making a non profit game using sprites from other games or could this be considered a change to their work for fun as in with art? Capcom retains all rights to the original work. The reason I ask this question is... Would it be considered stealing music to sing a person's song? You are not taking credit for their music but are still using it right? Please feel free to post in this thread on your opinions of such. ^^

I did not have ANY dislikes on my video till I posted the link here in this thread... So... the two that did it are real jerks. I will never understand why anyone would do that without even understanding it. =/ But oh well.... You jerks put up videos of work that took you months of work and have some random a*****e pick dislike for no reason on it... stressed Err.....
