Random Encounters are very similar to the Final Fantasy concept of Random Encounters, meaning that you may be attacked by one of the creatures in the bestiary at the whim of a Captain or Crew member (aren't we deliciously evil?). Don't worry though, you will never be attacked by a creature you or your party cannot defeat and you will always have the option to attempt to run away. And you cannot be killed during a Random Encounter, only grievously injured.
Unlike PvP combat, if you are in a party at the time of a Random Encounter your entire party will be involved in the encounter.
With that being said here's the rules of a Random Encounter.
1. A Random Encounter challenge will be issued in game by a Captain or Crew Member taking the roll of one of the creatures in the Bestiary.
2. When a challenge has been issued the player/s being challenged must then report to the Random Encounters subform, where the Captain or Crew member who issued the challenge will have created a thread in the forum for your particular challenge.
3. The Player/s who have been challenged will make the first post in this new thread. In this post they have the option to choose whether or not they wish to run away from the fight. If they choose to run away they must make an in character post stating this fact and when they submit the post include a die roll option (option is at the bottom right of the post submission page) where they roll ONE 20 SIDED DIE.
If there are multiple players in the challenged party those players must choose a leader and the leader will roll the 20 sided die.
(NOTE BENE: THIS IS ENTIRELY OPTIONAL, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEMPT TO RUN AWAY.)
The Player/s, should they choose to attempt to run away will check their dice roll against The Bestiary. If their dice roll allows them to escape then the encounter is over. Resume normal play.
IF NOT, continue to rule 4.

This form of combat is very similar to the Writing Skills Challenge in PvP combat. The name of the game is creativity and writing skills. Grammar, spelling, creativity will affect the hit points in this game. Post length does not matter, however one or two sentence posts will hurt your creativity score.
A. A beast begins combat with 25/25 hit points. Collectively, all players begin combat with 50/50 hit points. (This means that if there are 5 players in a party ALL TOGETHER they have 50 hit points, not individually)
B. The first move in combat will be made by the Player/s, if there are multiple players in the party then ALL players take precedence over the beast. Players will discuss amongst themselves OOC what order they will choose to post in and then they'll get creative. There is no post length limit, however short posts may dock you creativity points. At the bottom right of all players first posts put 50/50, this is the number of hit points you have. Players will have ten minutes after their posts are submitted to make any edits, after that crew members will pass judgement on your posts.
POINTS WILL BE DOCKED FROM YOUR PARTY'S HIT POINTS FOR:
*lack of creativity (Max 2 points)
*Excessively short posts (less than two paragraphs) (Max 3 points)
*Spelling Errors (1 point for each error, we accept both American and British spellings)
*Grammar Errors (1 point for each error)

C. After a crew member has had a chance to go over your posts they will post in the last players post the updated hit points and the actual hit count they made on the beast. (N.B IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PLAYERS TO MOVE THEIR UPDATE HIT POINTS TO THEIR NEXT POST)
D. Next the beast will post. The beast is subject to the same creativity requirements that the Players are. As well as Spelling and Grammar requirements. The beasts hit points and hit count will be located in the bottom right corner of the post.
