In the case of Benji, they're not promoting animal cruelty at all. They're asking the viewer to see on the side of the dog and feel anger or get upset at the act performed by the human that kicked the dog.

I have yet to see a movie where a character is gloating about killing an animal, or if he or she does, doesn't get some kind of punishment or bad "karma" back from his or her heinous act.

Even in movies such as The Hours, it's not really focused on, just a part of the movie. Such as in Sounder, Old Yeller, Benji, etc, when these animals get "put down" by means of a gun, the movie has already developed the character of the animal so much that the viewer sympathizes with the animal, not feels like they should go out and shoot their own animal.

Personally, I don't think we've gone as far as you think we might have in the animal cruelty department in the media. The only media where you can witness extensive and horrible acts of animal cruelty are the Faces of Death videos, which are not a popular form of media, and banned in some states, and of course the Internet, but everything is available on the Internet anymore.

It is so true. It would be very comforting if at the beginning of the movie they said that no animals were harmed during the making of the film. I cry every time that I see an animal killed because it just isn't fair. Like the whale in the third free willy that the whalers harpoon. That killed me because I love whales. There is such a long list that I could go on for hours and hours...but I won't.

I also think that's sad. I often cry at movies when an an animal is killed or dies. I'm kinda sensitive when it comes to stuff like that. I also tend to cry at Disney movies. But I'm not going to get into that 'cause it's sorta embarassing.

In movies created in the United States (legal ones, at least), the rights and health of the animals used in them are monitered very, very closely. There are people on-set in movies and TV ads whose sole job is to keep track of the animals and their conditions/treatment. I watched a spot years ago about the making of this one film section. It was a simple, maybe minute-long spoof of Titanic done by TBS Superstation with chimps instead of actors. The studio had to take a break and open the doors every time the temperature got too warm for the animal rights monitor's opinions. The one chimp that looked like it was falling off the side of the boat was actually jumping three feet down into her trainer's arms.

The set of Beethoven had to be kept at a constant 60-65 degrees so that the Saint Bernard star wouldn't get hot and start to pant, actually meaning the humans were way more uncomfortable than the dog. And the horses you see in movies that "get shot" and fall over? They're trained to do that on command. I watched the making of The Mummy once, and about 15 or so horses did it at the same time when the training clicker was pressed.

However, that doesn't mean little miss sensitive here doesn't cry when characters "Die" in movies. -points to self- xd I cry too easily....

I doubt that they actually shot the dog - all they did was probabaly make it look like that they shot it in the head, like they would fire off a gun then they would coat where the wound would have been wih "blood" . There are rules against animal crelty in movies - and lots of laws about it - if they actually did shoot the dog then the movie company would recieve a big fat fine.

Heh, "It's a bad world for animals." it's a quote from a Richard Adams book. Plauge Dogs. Think about that quote, it'll probably never be proven wrong.

In the movie Willard the rats that where used where to all be put to sleep after the movie was done. Thankfully most of them were saved by rescue organizations. <33

Thanks Old Yeller,

NOW WE'RE GOING TO BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT.

I've seen a cane toad get used as a golf ball. It was a close-up shot and everything, looked pretty real. Not sure what the name of the movie was, but it couldn't have been good. Nothing good's ever on at midnight.

The theater is an area similar to politics in the standards that anything will be done to get the goal. I have been in the theater for eight years and from what my experience has showed the theater will do absolutely anything (other then harm humans) to give off the effect of a scene. Back round music computer editing, lighting, wording, and camera angles, and it all comes down to, the age old question…would you rather kick a baby or a puppy majority says a baby. There by proving that if we injure something ‘adorable’ the tone is immediately changed into the deep end of what ever the scene portrays, usually the reaction will be a defining moment and the person kicking the dog has just gone deeper into the villain category. The over all mood has there by swayed the viewer into thinking the way that the director/producer wants them to. The theater has many kinks I will admit however Hollywood has to much money, and honestly no matter what anyone says, they do what they want. Maybe someday there will be a chance to ‘veto’ the cruelty.
