FAQs
Q: Since Dolls are technically shells with souls, do they recall any of their prior memory or their past name?
A: While all Dolls inherit quirks/likes/dislikes from their past lives, they cannot recall any of their past lives' memories or their past name. They can, however, make new memories and even dream.
Q: Do they remember Scarlet making them, or Scarlet at all?
A:No. Despite that they are human corpses revitalized and filled with shards of soul, they cannot remember their maker. Scarlet literally "releases" them into England by placing them in varied locations and they awaken by themselves. They have all the basic erudition their past lives had, however, sans their social circle and name. (By basic, we mean strictly basic ie: language, names of critters/plants, what water is, what the sky is etc.)
Q: Are they lifelike? How do they operate?
A: Scarlet's Dolls are so lifelike that it is impossible to tell them apart from humans unless you scrutinize their necks (on which the alchemic ring is visible). They have superhuman strength and endurance.
Q: What are zodiac elements?
A: Zodiac elements are compounds invented by Scarlet Plantaget that she seals into each of the twelve Dolls. They are based on the western zodiac and in a sense are the Doll's "magical powers" or whatnot. They cannot be unlocked by anyone except for Scarlet (which is why you will need to request a mission RP from the mule with Scarlet if you are ready to reach the Oversoul stage). Before reaching Oversoul, the Dolls have the appearance of eyepatched children. They eyepatches are not merely cosmetic, they cannot be removed (no matter how much you pry/cut them) because they are seals that seal the Doll's zodiac element. Once reaching Oversoul, the Dolls' appearance mature to a more teenager-like one.
Q: So under what circumstance would Scarlet allow my Doll to reach Oversoul?
A: Scarlet thinks fondly of her Dolls as if they are her children. If the Doll's companion is in danger (which in turn would put the Doll in the face of danger) Scarlet would not hesitate to unlock the Doll's potential so that it can access a better self-defense. With the interfaction tensions and the darkness of England, it is not uncommon nor difficult for a person to be threatened.
Q: How old are the humans that Scarlet turns into Dolls?
A: Scarlet, having no ability to have children of her own, uses the corpses of young children, generally from ages five to fourteen. The zodiac element is the catalyst that allows them to age physically.
Q: So my Doll/Companion don't have to be a part of the HMSS to reach Oversoul, correct?
A: Yes, your doll/companion do not need to join the HMSS to reach Oversoul so long as the requirements are met.
Q: So only if my Doll is a part of the HMSS can he/she evolve into a full adult (HMSS soldier)?
A: Exactly. If your Doll's skills and powers are able to serve the Queen well enough, Scarlet will unlock his/her full potential (PM the mule when you feel that you are ready). The Doll and his/her companion will receive a complete redesign (cooler outfit for the Doll, aww yiss). At this time, you are allowed to influence the design for the human companion if you wish.
Q: How do Shinigami treat Dolls?
A: A Shinigami may not know that the Doll is, in fact, a Doll. However, if the Shinigami is in peril, Scarlet can still unlock the Doll's potential for it to reach Oversoul. Dolls that are partnered up with Shinigami in technical terms are more or less like human companions with advanced abilities. How they affect the Shinigami's jobs is up to you! (:
