re a popular Japanese punk band with aggressive music and a sense of humor. The band's music is punk based, but also includes funk, metal, pop, and other influences. The high energy level and fun atmosphere at their live shows have won them many fans.
The band was formed in 1998 in the Tokyo suburbs by vocalist Daisuke Tsuda and female drummer Nao Kawakita. The group currently comprises Ryo-kun (guitar), Daisuke-han (vocals), Ue-chan (bass), and Nao (drums and vocals). Ryo is the band's main songwriter and is also the brother of founding member Nao.
After the release of their album Funban, in 2004, the band signed to the VAP record label. After the release of their first major album Rokkinpo Koroshi, the band embarked on a nationwide tour, playing nearly 50 locations.
In 2005, the Maximum the Hormone radio program Menkata Kotteri started on bayfm. The song Akagi, from the single Zawa...zawa...za...zawa......zawa, was used as the ending theme to the anime Toupai Densetsu Akagi - Yami ni mai furita tensai, which ran from October 2005 to March 2006.
The band's first top ten hit came in 2006 when the single Koi no Mega Lover reached number 9 in the Oricon charts. Maximum the Hormone furthered their reputation playing at the Summer Sonic festival's Beach Stage in August 2006, and today rank as one of Japan’s most popular punk bands. Current Members
