The local Pagan group I am in brought up this topic and I found it interesting. So in your opinion, is it disrespectful to name your pets after a deity? Or does it show a sign of honor?

I don't think it would be disrespectful at all. In my opinion, if a pet is special to you there should be nothing wrong with naming it after a deity. I think it is a sign of respect and honor. I guess it all depends on the person's personal preferance though. :3

Yeah, we had a lot of mixed responses in the other group. In my opinion, I think it depends on the you and the deity. I have one cat that shares a name with the deity, but I actually named him because of a character in a book (Loki - from Job: A Comedy of Justice by Robert Heinlein). Then I have another cat named after a Pharoah from Ancient Egypt (Ramses). But the ancient Egyptians did worship cats and I find Ramses I and Ramses II to be two to of the greatest Pharoahs and most fascinating to myself..

I'd say it depends on the deity. I'm sure there are many that would be offended to have their great name given to an animal. However, I don't see why most would give two shits. They have far more important things to worry about other than what we're calling our pets.
