as most of you know, that is my loveydovey, eady. she's a mix of two husky type breeds. however...she's also about fifteen, maybe sixteen years old, with me having her for eleven of those years.
her health has been deteriorating, especially over the past few months. my brother had been in a denial of sorts, thinking that she could still go on with her terrible arthritis that would make her cry at all hours of the night, made worse by the cold air that comes from my town not exactly having a summer. even during the warmer days, she cries, coz she can't move, her joints too stiff for her to get up on the first try.
he finally realized last night, what we need to do... most likely, a vet tech will come to our house, coz eady can't get up into a car, nor can she handle the half mile walk to the vet. and that vet tech will bring eady's last shot.
she's sleeping on my floor right now, right next to my chair, tongue sticking out a bit. you know how the kids in peter pan had their dog, who acted more like a nanny and a mother? in a strange way, she was like that for me. in her pack oriented mind, I was the baby, and she had to protect me. she never asked for much in return. just the occasional treat and time spent scratching her head. its the only thing that calms her down now, when she cries- someone petting her head slowly.
I was too little to understand this, when my previous dog, clarebelle, was put to sleep- I was only five.all I knew was that she was sick, and that one day they told me that she went somewhere where she'd feel much more better.
one thing is for sure, now that I know and understand. this sucks. it sucks that its gone on for so long, it sucks that she's been hurting like this, it sucks that she's leaving me.
I don't really know what else to say.

I'm so sorry sweetheart. :'( I know how hard it is to lose your beloved pet. She had a long, happy life with you and I wish I were there to hug you both. She won't be in pain anymore. It's going to be heartbreaking, but it will be very quick, and she'll be with you. And that's really all a dog could ask for, to be with their pack and surrounded by love.

There aren't enough hugs in the world for me to give you, so I will make some more and continue making hugs forever. My sincerest condolences, lovely. Eady was a beautiful creature and I imagine that she's still protecting you and will always watch over you, from across the rainbow bridge.
I can relate to losing pets from illness; the five guinea pigs I had before the two who are currently alive (Rosie & Oreo) died from different illnesses, mostly at what's considered an old age for guinea pigs.
It never gets any easier. Pets aren't just pets, they're family. When one passes on or leaves us in any capacity, it's always painful. It's a reminder of how much we cared for and loved them and how we can do that again for another creature when we feel we're ready.
Take as much time as you need to grieve, love. And let me know if there's anything I can do for you, please. <3

I thought it was something like this when I went on your facebook the other day.
I'm so sorry hun, I know how much she means to you. We've been friends for so long now, and I remember when we would talk about our fluffy babies. But like Hisa said, she won't be in pain and she lived a happy life with you. It may be hard but keep a smile for her, I'm sure she'd only want to see you happy.

*hugs*
As a dog lover/owner/fanatic/etc. I know how you feel and I give you the most sympathy. My last dog's cancer crept up on us and before we knew it we had to put him down. He was only 11. sad My current dog also has her share of health problems, a nasty case of dog warts a few years back. Terrible allergies which make her scratch all the hair off her eyelids every summer. Incontinence due to a botched spaying. Thankfully nothing life-threatening so far. My heart goes out to you. heart *hugs again*
