Madhura and Kaiala were both excited. They'd been planning this day for quite some times. As far as cousins were concerned, these two were some of the closest ones in the pride. It was like Madhura was Kaikala's sister instead of cousin. Both of them had nine brothers and sisters. The Bahari remembered the week in which Feana and Sabbia had their cubs, both of them having ten each. The nannies were overwhelmed when they had a total of twenty plus cubs to watch in one day! No one expected such big litters from the girls.
Without speaking, they both stepped into the calm waters, each taking their own time and relishing in the feel of the cold liquid against their warm skins. It was really hot today. They really couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.
Kaikala waded out a bit deeper than his cousin, but that was because he was taller than she was. Looking back at her, he beamed a huge, toothy grin and gave her a wink. "I'll race you to shore," he said, laughing before turning back to the rising tide.
She hated to admit it, but Madhura was a bit scared of what was going to happen. It meant putting her whole self at the mercy of the mother ocean. Lately, things had been good and calm. So why she was scared, she really didn't know.
Both of them held their breaths when the tide started rising. Their paw were picked up off the soft sand and both were swimming when a wave came over their heads, propelling them back to the shore. Swimming quickly, both cousins surface and sputtered before making their way back to the shore.
Now they were considered adults.
Sabbia, Kaikala's mother, was sitting there waiting for them, a whole crew of eighteen behind her to do the same thing the two just did. "I'm so proud of you two!"
The cousins just laughed and shook themselves off, sitting beside them to watch their families become real adults.

Kishima sat nervously with his mother as he watched his cousin and sister go into the water to complete their rites. he was pleased though that they completed their rites just fine when they finally came to shore and couldn't help but be proud of them. when it finally was his turn, he took in a deep breath before making his way into the water. he purposely went as far out as he could go out before he had to hold his breath and swim back to shore with the tide. when he finally made it solid land dripping wet, he gave a huge grin to his family as he was proud to finally be seen as a adult now and no longer be a child. "that was awesome!"
