OK most Indians in the US have modernized. As for the families that haven't, mine's one of them. Now i can't go out on dates, have a boyfriend, go out with friends without a educational reason. Just now my bet guy friend showed up at my door bc he needed help, my dad answered the door. My parents have seen him before, at my high school graduation bc we were taking pics together. Ok well he needed college help so he showed up, dad answered and told him i wasn't home. Well he wouldn't even let me say hi to him! I haven't seen him since high school! Mom was like 'how dare he show up here'. They used to like him, and now they hate him and accuse me of sneaking him in the house while they're at work, which is not true at all! He's never come home before, but my parents love to accuse me all the time. One day i saw my friend from high school, male again. He was at Walmart and he teases me a lot. So that day he yells my name, and runs up and gives me a hug. My mom went ballistic in the car. Reminding me that if i ever get a bf, they will shot me and then themselves. IDC about bf's but can't i have a guy friend?? My future is to go to college, get an arranged marriage. Then the end... sad emo emo emo emo emo

First, it is them being overly protectice and having high standereds. You don't have to follow the arrangements if you don't want to though. If you want to marry a guy or have a boyfriend you should have that right. Right now, though I think I would try to save up money, find a place to live, get a job, and that's how you wouldn't really worry about your parents arranging a marriage, but it would be a very tough time with you and dealing with your family though. If you really really want your indpendence then that is what it will take to obtain that.
