We all have sleep issues as some point (Some are lucky and sleep like a baby no matter what). I doubt that I have insomnia, but it's hard to tell (I'm not going to a doctor for any sort of tests) and there is different types of insomnia.
I doubt I have this though because I can sleep my best when I'm in class (When the teacher lectures, but now that I'm in college I can't exactly do that and I'm not going to pay a person to lecture infront of me so I can get to sleep).
There are nights where I get up to ten hours of sleep and I have good dreams, with a good refreshing feelings. I've even had a five or ten minute power nap and I've slept better in that rare powernap than I do in ten hours of sleep.
I'm 19 and I look younger than most women my age (Mistaken for 16 or around that area. I just don't believe age is always accurate since everyone is different). And I've heard that teenagers need as much sleep as babies (Which is about 10 hours), but I tend to do eight hours on school nights at most, yet it doesn't feel like enough. Even if I do go to bed early and get ten hours on a school night I do not feel as refreshed as I would love to.
It takes atleast 30 minutes of disociating to get to an actual transition of sleep. I try to go to bed early on some nights to get to that stage quicker. I'm not a stressful person to begin with either, so I'm not sure why I have difficulties sleeping correctly. I don't wake up in the middle of the night (not often atleast), so I'm not sure what I'm missing in my sleep.
I won't take medication (personal choice) unless I actually may have some missing chemical in my body (Which I shouldn't since I can sleep fine in other areas) I've tried Nyquil for a week to help me get to sleep, but that actually made me feel tingly throughout the whole night and an insomnic pill knocked me out, but I didn't feel very refreshed since I had to wake up early anyway.
Excersize doesn't work for me. The only thing that involves excersize would be sports, or anything that gets me into that excited state (I forget the scientific term) of adrenaline, in which that tires a person out more than anything.
This is a thread to share ways you get to sleep, or your sleep problems and theories. What helps?

Movie I'll try ( razz
I don't see many responses and I'm starting to wonder if anyone actually does have sleep problems around here, or if everyone actually does have sleep problems and I'm dumb for questioning this (I googled things, so I'm at a loss for that).

I honestly can't sympathize. I'm conscious throughout all of my sleep (or at least most of my sleep) so I don't really have sleeping "issues". In fact, if I were to describe it, I'd liken my "sleep" to meditation in the sense that I'm not fully conscious but at the same time I am not unconscious. As for what helps when I want to get to "sleep", I simply try to remember things that happened (usually from a while back) or just play a tune in my head to myself while imitating the finger strokes on my pillow as if it were a piano. If you just got through working out or doing some other invigorating/strenuous activity, it helps to take a few deep breaths and count how many Mississippis each breath takes to help get your heart rate back to normal.

With all my fury, every inch of pain This violent anger tearing us away Hate, destruction, human consumption Creates division, blinded in visionOkay, I just need to say this before i get on topic of what you want: It sounds kinda like what happened to me when I had sleep apnea... but that's gone now cause I got my tonsils out, which since they were so big, they caused it... so maybe that might be what you have, i don't know. You can get a sleep study done... i did... Though lights out at 10, and they wake you up around 4 am... plus you're hooked up to wires and they glue them to the back of your head, so no.. it's not a good sleep at all, PLUS the beds are the most uncomfortable things i've ever slept on... *eye twitch*
ANYWAY, on topic:
I fall asleep easiest when it's pitch black, and music playing, quiet music, but loud enough to hear clearly. Some people can't sleep like that, but I find it soothing. Noise sometimes helps relax you, so music is good, or you can get a sound maker thingy... i had one, but it broke... xD
But like, the first 3 days after my surgery, i slept through the night like a baby despite the excruciating pain in my throat without music, but it's probably because the pain medicine i took has stuff to help you sleep, so it made me really drowsy most of the day since i had to take it whenever the pain was unbearable... though it worked amazing cause it had this codeine stuff in it... man that stuff works perfectly... = w =
Back on topic:
I don't know why, but I personally feel safer when I'm under a blanket..... on hot nights, i leave my feet out and it makes it cool enough to stay in a blanket... Plus the warmth can be relaxing. sweatdrop
That's all I can really think of... :T Raging like the wave, crashing to its place Such violent delights have violent ends So furiously, my insanity, trapped in vanity Scrounged in desire, raging like a fire

@ Utonten- Eh I've only had strep throat twice in my life and my tonsils are apparenlty fine. Even without tonsils sleep apnea is pretty common in everyone though more severe than others. Lol and the test sounds scary <_< '
@Maui boy no ka oi- It's nothing really to be sympathizing over, it's not a harsh condition. The activities I can try or a tune to help dissociate. Danke danke razz
@Infamous- XD Yes lol I would, but some books are too good that I don't want to go to sleep on. I'm an eager reader, but none the less I appreciate it.

i barely ever sleep because i just can't for some reason. i will usually listen to some music and try just keeping my eyes closed. it tends to work on most nights, but i usually can't sleep through the night so i wake up multiple times a night.

I'm one of those people that can sleep like a baby no matter what, and I can do it all day. It literally takes me two minutes to fall asleep and start dreaming. I wouldn't call it lucky, though, I'm always tired and it has me in a mess at school. I know how you feel, though.. I've noticed that when I go to bed early, and get at least 8-10 hours of sleep, I wake up feeling horrible and tired. However, if I just get about 5-6 hours of sleep, I usually wake up feeling fine and I won't be tired. I've came to the conclusion that we aren't meant to get our sleep in at the same time. Instead of sleeping 10 hours at once, it might be better if you broke it up in some way and slept 6 hours at night, and maybe 4 hours in the evening. This worked for me for a while; it helped keep me awake in school. To fall asleep, I just put everything out of my mind. Total darkness helps. It actually took me awhile to realize that things that smell good help me sleep, too, and I have to have something to cover my mouth and nose with (my blanket) before I will sleep. I also read somewhere that some smells make it difficult to sleep, but that’s not the case for me.
I use to have horrible sleep problems, though, I think due to a hormonal imbalance.. so that could be a part of it? I use to have months, where I stayed severely fatigued. I couldn't help but to sleep, all the time, no matter where I was. That would go on for a month or a month and a half, and then I would shift. I would also have months where I couldn't sleep at all, and I wouldn't get tired and felt like I had all the energy in the world, I loved it.. but then I think that's what would cause me to crash the month after that. I started getting the Depo Provera shot, and all that stopped completely, not only that but I've felt physically better. I use to be sick all the time. I've quit getting the shot, though, because I didn't like some of the side-effects..so I'm probably going back to my old cycle until I find something else to work for me.. =/
