Because the crappier, less-worthy entries always win.
It pretty much applies to all the contests I've entered. I've never won anything and it pissed me off at the fact that crappier s**t wins.
Getting to the main point, so I entered a little outfit design contest thingy in a game forum for my sibling. The rules being that you have to use a base and only Paint to create the outfit.
"The 3 most original, nice and cute outfits gonna be the winners!!!"
I thought it was pretty easy since all of the entries are from n00bs that talk like "OMG kawaiii." and don't even know how to save an image in .PNG to save their life.
So this was my little entry. AND I ******** SWEAR I MADE UP THIS OUTFIT. AND HERE ARE THE WINNERS.  
I DON'T ******** EVEN.Really?...I mean REALLY? I don't know what happened. Concussion that impairs judgement?
They think I copied the outfit?
I have to be a noob to win?
WHAT.
So yeah, here ends my rant about contests.
If anyone ever wonders why I don't enter anything, this is the ******** reason right here.

That's the same reason I quit art contests, the bullshit tastes of some people who run judge the entries. :/
And wtf? Your entry has better skill than the first one and has much more originality than the third one. (I'm okay with the second one though.)

Yours was way better...especially from the first!
