Some of us have been talking on Y!M throughout the week about various health issues. We want/need to lose weight but lack support and motivation, we thought it might be a good idea if we had a sub-forum dedicated to purkle health issues so we can help each other out. i did post in the guild discussions thread but most people will have missed that as it isn't visited very often. Nibbles seems happy with the idea if there's enough interest so if you want this people post here and let her know 3nodding
i've got to the stage of getting pretty cross with myself because of my laziness when it comes to exercise, but i need that final push to get me off my butt, i feel i need somewhere where i can talk to others and get the support that i need, but i don't want to sign up to a diet site that's going to be full of strangers gonk
i intend to try and motivate myself a bit tomorrow, to get up at a decent hour(regardless of what time i get to sleep) and get outside and walk! i need to go up to Tesco to look for an item for Lizzie(2 mile walk) i need to go to the Post Office to collect a package(10 minute task) i have to biggest pile of ironing that you've ever seen and my flat is very disorganised. I'd like to do something about ALL of these things tomorrow. Let me rephrase that, i shall be angry with myself if i don't do something about each of these things tomorrow! i shall report back to see if i actually manage to accomplish anything at all tomorrow! sweatdrop

cough, well redface didn't manage to get up early, but i HAVE been fairly productive today, where as on a normal Saturday i'd be sat infront of this screen all day rolleyes i've done a load of ironing, rearranged and tidied all my drawer space upstairs, that makes it sound like i have a lot! let me clear things up here. i don't own a wardrobe, all i have are the 4 drawers beneath my bed and a chest of drawers that doesn't hold as much as i thought it would, so storage is a bit of a problem for me neutral Anyway i threw away some ratty old things, consolidated other items, refolded more, so now i have some space to put away whay i've ironed today and all my drawers are neat and tidy. So, all in all i'm quite pleased with myself 3nodding Hopefully i'll do some more stuff tomorrow too, this WILL involve walking to the supermarket too 3nodding

This is a wonderful idea! I recently started pilates myself, and I have to say it's amazing! The hard part is motivating myself to actually do it though rolleyes

Ebil i totally agree, i have a Pilates DVD that is really relaxing to do, shame my DVD player is dead neutral It totally is all about motivation though. i didn't get outside today as it's been raining all day, but i am exercising here in my chair! Leg lifts and bum clenches and twisting from side to side, so i don't feel so bad about sitting here today blaugh

I would like to see more about this. I'm actually thinking about joining a gym (yes, I have free access at work, but am hoping that shelling out $$ will actually motivate me).

EternalHearts I would like to see more about this. I'm actually thinking about joining a gym (yes, I have free access at work, but am hoping that shelling out $$ will actually motivate me). Good luck EternalHearts! Whatever it's worth, my experience with paid gym memberships only served in helping me shell out the $$, and did not motivate me to actually use the facilities. rolleyes I hope that is not the case for you.

i think it's all down to finding something you enjoy doing, pounding a treadmill has zero appeal for me, i like to swim but i don't like our local pool. i think your exercise should be done in a social way if possible, like skating or dancing, so you get the health benefits but you have fun at the same time instead of it being a grind. But i'm still too anto-social to do something like that myself neutral

My new years resolutions were to practice my tai-chi at least once a week, and when Jade starts kindergarten, to join one of the fitness centers. My mom had the same idea and asked me about joining her at the fitness center (she goes almost daily) and it would cut her membership fee down, and then it would be a social thing too if we went together. We also got mountain bikes for christmas, so when it warms up, that'll be good exercise.

Blaisixi Good luck EternalHearts! Whatever it's worth, my experience with paid gym memberships only served in helping me shell out the $$, and did not motivate me to actually use the facilities. rolleyes I hope that is not the case for you. That's what's kept me from doing it up to now. The main reason I'm re-thinking it is because 3 of my friends are all at the same gym, so that might help motivate me--if they go, I'll go, and vice versa. But I still have to think about it and look at the funds. thanks for the well-wishes, no matter WHAT I decide. biggrin

Oh I remember what else I was going to say. I also have a yoga/pilates video, which is fun, but sometimes it hurts my low back/pinched nerves, even the easy stuff, so I don't do it often.
My mom says the owner of the fitness center where she goes is a chiropractor, and his wife is.. I forget, something medical too. Maybe they'll be able to point me to some stuff I could do safely.

Well, I just know I need to be doing something/ANYthing. I had to make an urgent visit to a 24 hour clinic on Friday night... I have a sore on my right foot that just does not want to heal for months now, and ever since I got back from vacation I could not even get a shoe on, because the foot is swollen. Jim got home from work and decided enough was enough, so off to the clinic we went. The doctor looked at the foot and decided I need to see a specialist, and he also wants to test my thyroid and blood sugar. I have gone to the same medical group since 1996 and in the past year of being very ill, I have managed to gain over 75 pounds, which is SO not healthy over any period of time, but in a year has him even more concerned! He prescribed some new things I have not tried before, and said as soon as I am able, he wants me to try excercising either inside the house or in a gym. Well, since I rarely leave the house, a gym will is pretty unlikely. redface and then, too, the new found weight makes it even harder for me to think of leaving the house. Ahhhhh what a vicious circle I reside in.
