Love is everywhere and we can never see it coming. We never see what is right in front of us. . . until it's gone or already faded into oblivion. But what if the one person you're meant to be with, has been supp- -orting you through the horrible wrecking ball that is your marriage? This is about a love triangle... a trian- -gle that should never have even happened. This sto- -ry is about a girl, her husband, and the man that is completely in love with her. She's in love with her hus- -band, but she's also in love with another man... her best friend. Her heart is torn into two halves, unsure how to dealwith the tragedy that is slowly unfolding...while her husband remains completely oblivious and totally and completely in love with her.
What will finally unfold?

The dinner party was rather quaint, filled with the entire neighborhood it seemed and lots of old friends of Nell and her husband, with many family members and little children running about. Steven sipped at his glass of vodka and soda, realizing he had already had about three glasses prior. He wasn't quite drunk, but he knew he was at least tipsy. He moved into the kitchen where he thought he saw Nell walk into. He stood there and placed his glass on the little island in the center of the room. He leaned onto his hands and let out a gentle sigh. How could he be there, celebrating the anniversary of someone else's marriage to the girl of his dreams? He shook his head, contemplated just leaving and pretending he never really was there to begin with. He grumbled incoherently under his breath, hoping the loud party goers wouldn't even notice him. The more Steve drank, the angrier about the situation he got. He took the last swig of his drink and decided it would be best to leave the kitchen and walk into the living room. He crashed on the couch, realizing that the majority of the party was in the dining room, the kitchen, and the back porch. He leaned forward on his elbows and let his face fall in his hands. Of course, if Nell approached him he'd send her smile and tell her he was just tired. If her husband approached him, he would definitely congratulate him. He couldn't let him in on his feelings towards Nell and how that man didn't deserve her half as much as Steve did. He just wanted to take her away, run away, go somewhere where they can both be happy, forever.

Going back and forth between the kitchen and the living room, Nell Vans seemed to be social and bubbly, but on the inside Nell couldn’t feel the same joy that she could remember feeling at last year’s anniversary party. It wasn’t a black tie affair, more of a bar-b-que, really; but, they were events that involved both of their families. Particular that of her husband’s sister Pamela, and her three adorable munchkins that insisted upon running every which way and getting themselves into trouble. Nell cherished her nieces, and would probably love her nephew once he grew up a little more for her to properly know, but just seeing children right now was like lodging a rock inside her stomach. For the past few months, Nell and her husband had just…stopped…talking about children. He wanted them, but they never tried for them. Chances were, Nell might not even be able to have children. ‘ Its not like having a baby will suddenly make everything better…’ but it would certainly be a reason to keep pretending that everything was okay. Oh? Not talking? Just stress from hormones. No romance? Well the baby was screaming at two in the morning. It wasn’t the lack of romance that upset the woman, she could live without the amour, without the looks that her husband used to give her constantly months before, but he never seemed to notice…anything….anymore.
‘ If I just went upstairs and ended myself in the bathroom…how long would it take him to notice?’, Her husband was in another room, talking to friends and relatives on his side of the family, and knowing him, he could talk all night and only think of her if she just happened to cross his path. At first, it was easy to convince herself that she was exaggerating the state of their marriage; but now? Now she couldn’t remain ignorant. She could only smile, lie to relatives, and avoid her best friend. ‘ Why he has feelings for me…I‘ll never know.’, she thought; and it was entirely brought on from the wear and tear of the past six months. Nell knew she had feelings, wrong feelings, for her best friend. But was it truly what she believed she felt? Or was she just so desperate to be noticed that she opened up because her best friend wanted to give her the time of day? He had been begging her to leave her husband for him…but how could she just ruin things like that? A marriage didn’t end at the drop of a hat…but at the same time…he just didn’t listen when she tried to bring up counselling…or other things.
Setting a tray of cheese, crackers, and ham on the coffee table, Nell tried to smile reassuringly at Steven but all she felt was guilt. ‘ I‘m making -him- suffer too…neither of them deserve this.’, looking towards the staircase, Nell pointed towards it before walking upstairs. Hoping that her friend would follow so that they could talk without being overheard.
