Aagiro had been... pleasantly surprised when Nen had brought them to the ocean. Ammon'nen, her mind purred out each time she thought of the shortened form of his name. It was enough to drive a lioness mad! But besides that everything had seemed to be going... well, great! No mud, no frogs, no vicious lions... come to think of it it seemed the last two places Aagiro had picked to make them visit were miserable, and the last two Nen had brought them to? Fantastic, very nice. Which, wasn't really all that fair, why should Nen get to bring them to all of the good spots? Oh well, she guessed it didn't matter. It had been her first time seeing such a large expanse of water, and it was brilliant. The fresh breeze that rolled off of the large water, the cries of birds and the gentle crash and sway of the liquid was all pleasant to take in. And the air! The air smelt so much different from savannah air!
They'd been at the ocean for exactly two days now, and each day seemed calm and not one bit awkward. On their way to the beach and sea Aagiro had finally decided to stop being such a brat, and also to try and let her sudden and awkward feelings for her traveling companion go. He had declared them friends, after all. In her head that meant there was no room for him to be thinking anything else, and though it had dispelled the awkwardness it had also left Aagiro feeling slightly upset and a tiny bit heartbroken. This, she hid well. But with the awkwardness gone and the friendlier atmosphere placed it seemed there was more physical contact between the two, more laughter and less arguing. All of it had served as a challenge for Aagiro. If she gave in then again things would be awkward... wouldn't they? But last night she'd gone off on her own, as she'd did the night before as well. She'd taken a walk away from Nen so she could clear her head, reaffirm with herself that they were just, and always would just be, friends. Last night, however, something interesting had happened. It was not enough to make her give up on trying to give up her feelings, but it had gotten her head firmly stuck on thoughts of she and Nen.
She ran across the sand, laughing as her paws splashed into the water. It was just getting to be dusk. The time she'd grown accustomed to waking up to, because it was the time that Nen liked to wake up at. Running like this seemed a good way to empty her mind, so she'd been running quite a lot since they'd gotten to the beach. She finally spotted Nen ahead on the shore, and she grinned, not slowing a bit. "Nen! Nen, did you see that thing out there?" She called out, stumbling to a stop close to him, paw swiping through the water to send a large splash his way with a cheeky grin on her features. The thing she'd been speaking of was a huge fish! So massive... as large as a mountain, it seemed. It had flopped from the water, and had created large waves and foam. But it had only shown itself once, and then was gone it seemed.

While the journey to get to the big waters was long, almost tedious as they entered through a volley of different lands, Ammon’nen was rather excited to hear the brush of waves against the shore, the smell of salt and sand in the air. Aagiro had been pretty excited too, as she disappeared quite often to venture on her own. While it didn’t particularly bother Nen, he couldn’t help but want to follow the female, make sure no other males were around to try and woe her…He couldn’t admit it openly, but the feelings inside her welled up. Soon they would pour over and be out in the open. He didn’t know how much longer he could keep them bottled up inside.
Since the sun was beginning to sink below the horizons, the star pelted male was waking from his slumber. Luckily the beach had a cluster of skinny trees that actually provided shade during the hot summer days. He stood, stretched, and walked towards shore, hearing feet pound on the soft sand. He didn’t look back at her, instead, stared way out into the open waters. Thoughts after thoughts just reeled in his mind, not acknowledging Aagiro until a splash of water his him in the face. Nen gasped slightly, the water dripping from his chin, as he looked at the beautiful black lioness. See that thing?
…?
“..I’m must’ve missed it,” he said truthfully. “What did it look like?” He flashed her a grin. “Enjoying yourself here?” a small purr, quite content with the ocean life. Perhaps the feeling of the sand under his toes was what made him feel like home. He felt the same way about the dawnwalker pride too. Maybe he---no---they could go back there…

Aagiro stared at Nen for a moment with an expression that clearly said she was annoyed when he stated he'd missed whatever it was she'd been looking at. How the hell could he of missed that? Her eyes widened a little when she realized she was doing it again. She really was the one to start the arguments, wasn't she? She fixed her face to something less annoyed and more pleasant, and at his second question she nodded, splashing at the water with her paw a little. "I am enjoying it here... it's nice and cool." Nothing would ever be able to compare to a seabreeze after experiencing it, at least not for Aagiro. "Oh... the fish was huge!" She said, grinning as she swayed a few steps toward him and then gestured with a paw to indicate the very far out part of the waters they could see.
"I think it was bigger than an elephant Ammon'nen!" But here her voice faultered and she kept her gaze on the sea-line. She hadn't meant to use his full name, it just sort of slipped out. She'd been thinking of it since he'd told her it, and she thought she might like to have an excuse to use it... but like this? It felt awkward. She'd only ever called him Nen or Princess, after all. Ah but no... why should it matter? Hadn't she already decided to... auuugh, it was too awkward! She cleared her throat and turned back to Nen, the grin back on her features. "Never mind that anyways, it just means I got to see something spectacular and you never will~" Her tone was surprisingly teasing instead of haughty, and then she trotted a few paces away, further from the water and more to the sand.
"Oh yeah, Nen... can we eat these things?" Her paw darted out to tap a bright blue crab scuttling along the beach, and yanked back when it snapped at her. She'd been a little more chatty since they'd gotten to the beach, calm even. More the sort of Aagiro she showed around the strangers she met, and less of the annoyed lioness she presented to Ammon'nen.

A fish? Really, one that could be as big as an elephant. “I’m sorry I missed that,” he said softly. He had never seen something that big in the waters, only on land. And even on land it was pretty rare to see. Not that Nen wanted to go searching for elephants after all. That was something he thought he could really do without. Elephants could be temperamental…and they were big enough to squish even the biggest of lions. A small smirk at the thought of those two b*****d firekin squished underneath the large feet of a male elephant was quite an amusing factor. A small chuckle left his maw as he dawned back to reality, to the female lion wading in the water.
“Oh ho ho. Is that a challenge?” He gave a devious smirk towards Aagiro. “Wanna make a bet out of that?” He didn’t bring up the last bet they had, and Aagiro probably would NEVER agree to another bet with Nen ever again. But, he still could secretly tease her about it, without actually bringing it up in full to her. Oh, what a story to tell their kids one day…if…they had kids one day.
He couldn’t help but laugh at the crab that snapped Aagiro. “You can…but I wouldn’t. Don’t want them snapping around on my insides. Who knows, those crabs can be the firekin on the beach. Just a smaller size,” he chuckled. “Unless we take off the claws first…” he thought momentarily. There was an idea!

At least he was sorry to have missed seeing something so amazing. She would have been pissed if his reaction was that of indifference, surely.
Aagiro froze when he mentioned another bet and looked embarrassed for just a moment before she glared. "Hardly." She mumbled, not liking the thought of their previous bet. It was just a tad touchy of a subject for Aagiro, though it did give her an idea... this could work, couldn't it? No. Auugh, why couldn't she figure this out?
She stuck her tongue out at him playfully when he laughed, rolling her eyes. "They wouldn't stay alive!" She said, surprised and slightly horrified at the idea of them snapping around inside her stomach. But then Nen got to thinking and Aagiro glance back to the little creature, following it a few steps. She did not comment on the whole firekin thing, that was a sour subject as well. Why the hell did Nen have to keep bringing up sour subjects? It was like he wanted her to b***h at him.
"The claws.." She repeated, then bat at the crab again. This time she sent it tumbling over. She laughed slightly as she watched, it was such a queer little thing! It's little hard limbs wiggled about before it suddenly righted itself. "It's belly did not look as hard as the rest... though I'm not fond of getting snapped at by those claws..." She swallowed, glancing toward him. Maybe she could... would it be awkward? Well... it was worth a shot. Maybe. "I bet..." She said slowly, almost reluctantly. "That they are edible. I bet you I can kill more of them than you, too." One would not be filling at all, and besides... the underside did look like it was easier to rip open... Aagiro knew as much about these side-ways crawling things as she did the frogs in the swamps. She was not very knowledgable with water animals, except for fish. Sort of, all fish seemed the same to her.
"I... I bet you one secret." She said coyly, grinning at him. Yes, this could... definitely work. Of course, she would have to lose on purpose... she wrinkled her nose at that. She didn't like losing. She just hoped he wouldn't question why she was actually making a bet with him again.

Instead of giving the female a reason to hate him more, Ammon’nen agreed to the challenge. “A secret it is. If I win, you share a secret of yours…and if I lose,” he took a gulp, ears twitching at the waves rolled over his paws, “I will tell you one of mine.” Something in his mind told him he would be completely honest with the female. He knew she would probably do so to him as well. They had been traveling for a while now, together, what reasons did they have to lie to each other? He knew the exact secret he would tell her too, in case he was the one to lose the best. He’d be taking a chance in saying it, but he had to get it out in the open. Maybe then, it would break the tension that would linger every now and then between the two.
“Shall we shake on it?” He asked, lifting a paw off the ground, offering it to Aagiro. Not that handshakes mattered, it did a world of good their last bet that had tried. He light gaze settled on the crustaceans. There were a few scuttling across the ground, some even pinching at the air as they moved. It’d probably more a of a challenge to find them, than catch them really. But a challenge was a challenge.
“On the count of three….” He flicked a glance to her, still remaining seated as if he had this in the bag. “One…Two…Three!”

This would be the only time she could find the courage to bring it up. Maybe that wasn't entirely true, but over the last few nights she'd been just deciding on whether or not to tell him. And to come up with an idea? Well this one may have been spur of the moment, but it seemed like it would work... if she could handle competing without winning. She'd lost their last bet... not that they ever spoke of that anymore... and now she'd have to lose this one too. And who could really say if it would be worth it? The gods had made her life a laughing joke since the moment she'd met Nen, who was to say this would be any different? Her stomach was lurching back and forth uneasily, but she couldn't take back the words she'd already said.
She smiled briefly, covering up how nervous she actually was, and nodded. She stuck her paw out to take his, it seemed almost warmer when she let it drop again. She swallowed and shifted, readying herself as he began to count down. Three! Aagiro ignored the crabs closest, instead racing off a ways to hunt without having Nen so close to her, as that would be distracting. "...How long?" She called over, though her distraction was away from Nen again as a crab actually caught her paw and she cursed, flinging it away before moving again for it and smashing it with her paw. "Oh!" She said, slightly surprised because of how easy it'd been to crush.
But it was just her luck she hadn't decided how long they'd be 'hunting' for... if he tried anything foolish! She moved toward another crab, but it slipped into the sand. She dug furiously, and another curse left her maw easily when she found she had no clue where it went.

“Until I have the most crabs is when we call it quits!” he joked, calling out to her.
The sun hadn’t gone completely down, which made perfect timing for the crab hunt. It would just be a few minutes before the last rays of gold where in the sky. “As soon as every last bit of sunlight is out,” he offered to her, sniffing out some crabs. His idea was to find where they all where, but catch them all at once. “We call game over?” Nen found two crabs easily enough, but was finding it more difficult to use his choice method. He decided do the find as you go as Aagiro had been doing, that way, when the time was up he would at least have gotten some. Though, he wouldn’t technically mind losing the bet, if it meant getting his feelings off his chest.
He headed for the two he saw, raising a paw to strike it down. He wasn’t expecting the angry crustaceans to come up from behind him, and snap on his dark tail. He yowled, his tail flinging the crab right into the ocean. Well, there goes one of them. In anger, he quickly smashed at the one by his front paws, grimacing as he did so. This wasn’t one of his best ideas.

"Ha, ha, ha." She called back, rolling her eyes. "It's set then, when the sun is out!" He would pick that time. She still never understood why Nen disliked the sunshine so much... sure it was hot but it was also brilliant and pretty... not that the night wasn't. Ah, whatever.
The time headed by quickly and before Aagiro knew it the sun had already sunken down. She was panting slightly from racing this way and that on the beach, and when her gaze located Nen she called over, "OKAY! Stop!" She picked up the last crab she'd killed and brought it to her pile. They were all dead, so she had no need to watch them. No, she was trying to spot Nen's pile, to see how many he'd gotten. "How many?" She called, unwilling to share her number first.
She wanted to win, while at the same time knew she should have lost... though she sort of forgot that in the heat of competition and hadn't bothered keeping track of how many crabs Annon'nen had caught.

Nen hadn’t bothered to watch the slowly sinking sun in the sky. Now was the competition! He had found a whole bushel of crabs under the sand, and took them out easily one by one. He was sure that finding that little home would definitely put him in ahead of her. The only thoughts that ran through his mind was…what if it was a secret Nen didn’t want to hear. Oh he should slow down, and try to make it so she would win. At least, he would be more prepared with the news he would give out, rather than unprepared by what she would say.
When she called time, he had managed to get one more that scuttled right by his feet. How many? He counted the pair of claws that lay on the ground before him. Three…four…seven…eight…nine! Nine pairs!
“….Why do I have to say it first?” he scoffed playfully, hiding the parts so she couldn’t count them. But when she still didn’t say her number, he looked down and sighed. “Nine.” Sure enough she had caught more than him, which in his mind was perfect, but he still needed to feign his hurt about having to share a secret with her.
“Your turn. Spill it, how many?”

She narrowed her eyes at him, a look demanding no nonsense. He would tell his number first! She could have sworn she'd gotten more than six... but the little bastards had been harder to catch than she'd thought. "Nine?" She practically yelped the word out, looking surprised and a little troubled. Three more than her. Three! That was stupid, three wasn't even a big number! Arg, why did he have to win?
...Wait, wasn't that the plan? She huffed and her face grew rather sulky. "Six." The word seemed to be pulled forcefully from her maw, and even though the plan had been to lose from the beginning she still felt annoyed at Nen. Why the hell had she lost again? She hadn't even been meaning to lose, even if she'd thought of losing... She started prodding at her dead crabs a little, eyes on them before her lip curled and she sighed in an annoyed manner.
Suddenly she felt nervous, which was making her a little sick to her stomach. Especially paired with the annoyance of having lost. Damn, the other point to this was to have food. She took a deep breath and looked up at the sky, gaze floating over the little stars that had already started showing their faces to the earth. "I... owe... you a secret... then... don't I?" Her words came dreadfully slow, as she was being careful not to let her voice betray how nervous she was.

Aha! He had beaten her...but wait...no, he didn't want to beat her. Why couldn't she have been better at hunting the crabs? He was the lazy one of the bunch, always telling her when to stop for hunting, so they could eat and all. But no, he had to be better. Nen braced himself for the secret, but it never came. In fact, she seemed rather...hesistant about it. He didn't blame her though. He would probably feel the same way about it too if it were him who had lost. What could that secret have been then? It must be true, and not good if she didn't want to say it. Could it be...oh no, he had hoped it wasn't that.
"...Yeah...I...uh...guess you do..." he said slowly. He looked down quickly. "Before you say it. I probably have guessed it." he sighed, fearing the worst. But instead of her saying it, he just spoke what he thought she was going to say. "It's been fun, but I think it's time that we go seperate ways." He looked up at her. "That's was your secret...wasn't it?"

She glanced around for a moment before noting that there seemed to be nothing around that would be stealing her crabs, even the birds had seemed to go to their nests for the night. Aagiro shifted and forced herself to move toward Nen. She was almost right next to him when he spoke again. "What?" The word came out strangled, almost panicked. "You know? How could you know!" She suddenly felt like lying, telling him something different. If he knew clearly it was a bad idea to say it out loud, right? Because if he knew and still only thought of them as friends... well obviously he wouldn't bring it up. This was so embarrassing! And he was trying to spare her feelings to top it all off, it made her both feel depressingly embarrassed and also infuriated. She couldn't even share her freaking feelings properly! Wait... what? "What?" The word echoed her thoughts, confused.
She made a face, so confused at what he was saying. Separate ways? Without really thinking about what she was doing, which seemed to bring more trouble than it was worth, she reached out and bopped him on the head with her paw. It wasn't really a hard bop... at least, she didn't have her claws out! "No you idiot, I was going to tell you that I liked you!" Her eyes widened and both of her paws snapped to her maw, because even if she had intended to tell him she'd at least wanted it to sound better than that. "Nevermind." The word was mumbled though, muffled by the paws covering her mouth.

At the bop on his head, his ears pinned back for just a moment. “Hey….” He said softly rubbing his head. No , it didn’t hurt, he just…wasn’t expecting that?” …”So…that means you aren’t….you don’t…” speechless. The only time the lion had been this quiet was when they met those flirtatious males that seemed to be more infatuated with Aagiro then he. He almost didn’t believe the words that came out of her mouth. She couldn’t be serious. He liked her…she would never like him. She hated him…didn’t she. Though…she did seem embarrassed as the words came out of her mouth. So…she really did like him….She wouldn’t act that way if she didn’t… Oh, this was just wonderful!
Nen held his breath, reaching as he withdrew her paws from her maw. He leaned over to her, his nose touching her for just an instant, before backing away. “You know…I like you too…” the butterflies in his stomach slowly began to fade, but when she would look right at him, right into his eyes, they began to flutter again. Well…it was off his chest now. Hopefully…maybe things would get less awkward now.
At least they two had the same feelings for each other. Both were just too daft to say something sooner!

She seemed frightened along with being shocked, because surely he was about to ask her what the hell was wrong with her or maybe tell her to get away from him or... or... be speechless? Well that was a first, wasn't it? It still didn't settle her guts that were tossing about uncomfortably though.
She was frozen to where she sat, though she had the horrible feeling that he was about to tell her to buggar off or maybe go jump in the sea or... but no, he was taking her paws away from her maw and suddenly his nose bumped against hers. The touch was brief, but electric. It caused her to hold her breath, to send little shivers up and down her body. She could barely believe her ears... he liked her two?
She stared, her maw parting slightly and then a giant grin bloomed there in it's place, and she was suddenly lunging at him to tackle, laughing. Oh she'd been such a ninny, and she'd been so nervous! But everything was okay, he liked her too! She 'oofed' as they thumped to the ground, but a sudden thought struck her and she pulled away, almost pinning him as she was. "You... don't mean as a friend, right?" She said slowly, this time less nervous with her question but the tone was almost threatening. She'd kill him if he was trying to lead her to believe something he didn't mean!
