I predict a dog and pony show with the Republicans holding the American People hostage again, just like the last time they couldn't decide on the budget. There will be a lot of theater and pomp but they'll eventually agree on a deal (maybe in the 11th hour like last time) so that they have a shot at beating Obama next year.

A nation doesn't go bankrupt the same way a person does. Where as I can't tax the cells of my body because they all work for free supporting the nation of my physical body, the united states CAN tax the individual 'cells' of its body. And as the official legal counterfeiter, they can make whatever they want to use as money instead of the traditional U.S.D. Given that most currencies in the US last only 20-40 years, and we're at 40 years now, we're due to replace our currency again with something else. Whether it's the unified dollar of Mexico Canada and U.S, or an international SDR issued by the IMF.
Although on a side note, the debt ceiling has been raised many times before in the past. In all technicalities, each time was a technical 'default'. But like I said, the U.S doesn't go bankrupt like a physical human being. Don't expect any biblical plagues. As of right now the worst case scenario is that the ratings agencies and world bank are pressuring the US to raise the debt limits because that means more money for the bankers. More loans, etc.... Their threat is if we don't, then they'll tarnish our 'rating' by choice, lowering it to D because we aren't playing their game. That in turn will damage investor relations
FYI The republicans are the ones trying to save at least some of the people's asses. The libertarians are the ones trying to save everyone's asses.
This is going to be a very generalized statement, but for the most part....
Democrat Liberals spend and tax
Republican Conservatives just spend
Libertarians/tea-party want to cut spending and lower taxes, and go back to sound money

I get the gun joke, but to be technical led and copper have almost pure industrial value only. Not very valuable as money unless all hell broke loose wink
Something like water on the other hand is good to own.
With my companies earning revenue, any profits will be donated tax free to my non profit environmental company tax free, which will be used to secure water rights, purification, and storage. As well as fertile lands and other resources.

Presently I have an established entity LLC (Limited Liability Company) registered in Nevada. Currently it has no real revenue. This is my real estate company. Ironically I'm going to work with a business partner and mentor of mine in the trucking industry and consult an accountant about using my "real estate" company for trucking related tax strategies.
Although I think I'm going to make a habit of having coded names for my entities or give them reverse meanings. Such as "1082015306414526 LLC" which is easy for me to remember, or "Tractor Trailer Transportation LLC" which would be used as an education or real estate company.
Starting early next year I expect to be going full force though. I''ll be subcontracting under an independent trucking company making at least 50k after taxes, much of which is going to be put into metals, and real estate. I'll be using my LLC and other entities for asset protection and tax strategies, and will be rolling as much over as possible into an environmental company tax free that I can.
The goal of building a business is to look as poor on paper as possible. You want to own nothing, but control everything.
