The grey mare lay nestled atop a grassy hill overlooking the lake where she lived, and simply thinking. Having been left by her children the only one she had still was her mate, that and time. She still couldn't grasp why Zillah hated their family so much and lately that's all she could dwell upon. Vevina still had hope her dark daughter would change. The mare sighed she'd been doing a lot of that too lately hadn't she?
Raising her gaze to the sky she watched the clouds blow by the true blue sky, wind blowing the trees surrounding and fluffing Vevina's short forelock. Summer had come late, yet all she was doing was moping, that wouldn't do she decided before standing. She may be old but she was still quite fond of fun.
She'd go out and meet someone, perhaps they would enjoy a nice long talk and play. Silly as it sounded for a mare her age to enjoy playing.

As was usual for Ni'awtu, the mare lay underneath a large tree. The branches swept over her, casting long shadows across the grass in front of her. On a day like today, she preferred the shade. Her black hair and scales had a tendency of absorbing too much of the sun and making her uncomfortable. Like she had a too delicate frame or something. Or her skin-or scales?-were just too sensitive to the sunlight. Nothing but an annoyance.
For a change, she wasn't sleeping. Her head was up, though drooped a little so her muzzle touched the tops of the grass. It tickled her nose sometimes, when she moved. Her forelock, heavy with the bell, was stretched across the ground besides her. The usually jingling bell quiet.
The lake she'd seen from the sky was in the distance. Ni'awtu always seemed to be drawn back to the water. She was sure there was no Kelpi blood in her. None of her relatives on either side had the characteristics. But she loved the water just the same. Just having it in view comforted her. Her Kirin family lived near water, she remembered. Good guess where she got it.
Growing tired of laying around, the mare got up and stretched her wings before walking a safe distance away from the tree. From there, she made a little leap into the air, flapping her wings as she did so to hover slightly above the ground. Rising a little further, she pushed off to soar above the ground. Not to high as to touch the tops of a tall tree. But high enough nothing else would be able to get a hold of her.
It was than she saw the other figure on the hill. Straining her neck to take a closer look at the other Soq, she lost her balance in the air and did a few little turns before coming to land on her back hooves and knees onto the grass nearby.
"That was embarrassing..." she muttered to herself, rising up and shaking her mane. Little roughed up, but she felt alright. Her wings had stopped enough of the fall that she hoped it didn't look as badly as she thought it did.

The flapping of wings made Vevina look above, a wind seemed to grace her presence, Vevina smiled, how fun! Though she seemed in distress for a moment "Are you alright?" she called urgently as soon as the other mare landed. Vevina was highly curious as she noticed the apparent blood in her, she'd heard so much about Kirin soquili jus never seen one though she had seen many wind before and certainly not a cross, both being very prideful about their bloodlines.
But that aside Vevina was happy to see a new face."Oh my, I've never seen anyone like you before, you're such a pretty mare." she smiled "Oh where are my manners I'm Vevina." she said with a swish of her short tail. The other mare had such pretty features compared to her rather dull natural colouring and Vevina couldn’t help but find herself just a little envious.
Calm Vevina had to calm herself a little more, despite being a fairly old mare she was as bright as a filly still. with another sweet smile came another question "What brings you out all this way to my little lake?"

Ni'awtu's one visible purple eye shifted to the other mare approaching her, her ears going forward curiously. Just another mare. No stallion in sight. She gave an internal sigh at that. The crossbreed had enough of the male variety for a while. They made her a little nervous. 'Specially when they complimented her. At least when a mare did it, she didn't feel so awkward.
The huge blue and black wings stretched themselves out either side of her before folding themselves against her sides. The scales along her back became more apparent.
Yeah, I am...." Pretty? Why did everyone say that? The blue mare was unaware of her appearance. Down to the pretty stripes along her bright blue hide and the scales along her sides. She was aware Wind and Kirin were a little oddly matched. At least where her family was concerned. Both sides being too prideful of their blood and not allowing outsiders to taint it with other breeds. "Fine. I do not fly much." Afraid of falling, Ni'awtu tended to walk wherever she needed to go. With the Kirin's small bones and the Wind's hollow, she got hurt easily. She was thankful for such large wings during situations like this.
Tilting her head, she extended her muzzle slightly in more curiosity. "Like me? Am I rare?" Then, so as not to sound rude herself, she gave herself a little shake and straightened up. "I am Ni'awtu. Nothing brings me here. Just...Wandering."

A sigh of relief came to the mare "That's good, It would have been terrible if you’d been hut" Vevina smiled brightly at least she was fine besides, this other mare was simply adorable. Vevina gave a nod and swished her short tail. Vevina’s amber eyes took a better look at the mare's dainty form, the grey mare didn’t know the specifics of both breeds bone structure, she'd heard of them
"Well the wind aren't so rare but Kirin are," Vevina tried to explain, this mare being part Kirin would have been raised around them "not very many come down here, at least that I've seen." gazing out across her home for a moment, her home hadn’t be visited by much recently.
"It's a pleasure Ni'awtu, let me show you my home since you decided to drop by." the mare offered sweetly.

The calmness of the other made Ni'awtu feel less uncomfortable. Something she hadn't yet experienced with the other Soq she had met. Between stallions and chatty mares, she had been starting to wonder if she'd ever find another quite like her in personality. It was relieving, though she'd never admit it out loud. Or show it on her face.
The mare used her tail to flick a speck of dirt off a rump scale. "Kirin aren't so rare where I come from. A family herd lived near mine. Must be far away from where I find myself now." Very far away. She had seen plenty of Wind so far, but not a single Kirin. It made her feel more special to carry the blood in her veins of the Kirin.
Pale purples eyes took in the scenery around her for a moment before shifting back to Vevina. "Sure." Despite the fact she really didn't have anything better to do, she was interested in looking around more. It would be better with another besides her.
