Unfortunately, she had a rival of note, who had more funding than her for some reason. She didn't know why - none of his research was life-changing or even remotely interesting. Who would care about belly button lint's connection to being struck by lightning? Who would fund that? But it didn't matter now - her rival was dead and now she was waiting around for the police for questioning.
She leaned back in the chair provided to her in the interrogation room, gray hair falling ever so slightly out of its loose buns. She crossed her arms and frowned. Why anyone would suspect her was beyond her. It was utterly ridiculous. Christa was more concerned about his public humiliation than anything else. Killing him would have been too easy and most unsatisfactory.
The teen shook her head at the officer. "Again, like I told you, I was out shopping with Lysander. We have our receipts, time stamped and everything. It shows where we were and at what time. I don't understand why you're accusing me." She frowned again, eyes intense. "Yes, I bought a hairdryer. No, I don't have it with me. Who carries a hairdryer? That's ridiculous."
He'd sat down in his own chair, twiddling his thumbs, basically as the police grilled both him and Crista. It was so dumb! Why would they ever think that either of them would waste all their genius rotting away in jail for killing someone? It was beyond him. He was so smarter than that.
"Look i've got the receipts!" he waved them at the officer. "Plus it isn't that hard to think that we're each other alibis is it? I mean we didn't -both- kill him." He rolled his eyes.
He so had better things to do. He could be working or out shopping or -anything- but stuck here being blamed for someone (who so didn't deserve that grant he'd gotten) getting themselves killed.

Gigi listened in to the pair with interest as they made their case. They seemed a lot more desperate to clear their names than the other people she'd questioned, and they did seem to have an alibi, even if it was flimsy as the receipts they were waving around. Interesting.
"So you went shopping together instead of coming for cocktails?" she began. "All day? Didn't you want to see what all that funding had gone towards? ...or did you not get invited?" she added. Christine didn't seem dressed for a party, at any rate, more like a job interview. So that was a tick for the alibi.
She jabbed her little notebook with her pencil. "It says here you were his rivals. What does that mean, were you trying to build the same machine? Did you ever, like, visit him in his lab?"

"His invention was stupid. There wasn't any reason to come chat about it over drinks with people who he'd managed to convince it was worthwhile." he rolled his eyes as the girl asked questions. "I mean really ... they could have given the money to something more worthwhile. Me for example. But no it had to go to some.... never mind. It's not good to speak ill of the dead right?"
He eyed her notebook for a moment wondering what she was writing down. "Rivals means we were competing for the same grant money. Same catagory of science and all. I wouldn't waste my time building his useless machine. It wouldn't even work."

Christine yawned into her hand. She wasn't an actress by any stretch of the word, but tried to play her part with a little enthusiasm. Having Lysander there definitely helped give her a starting point. She shook her head. "Yes, we were out shopping all day. In our scientific pursuits, I'd say we've become rather good friends." On the subject of cocktails, she added, I'd rather not attend a gala celebrating someone who didn't deserve the money, in my opinion. It's too much of a blow to the ego." she admitted, tapping her glass with an idle finger.
"I wouldn't waste my time on something that had a minuscule chance of working, but they thought he was worth it anyway. I'm with him, though." Christine cocked her head in Lysander's direction. "It's not wise to speak ill of the dead. But just because he got the grant money doesn't mean there wouldn't be more out there."
