S A M U R A IO O FOAOT H O U S A N DOS U N S

even though he's technically approved, I would still love critiques!

APPEARANCE
Name Akihiko
Nickname Aki
Appearance Age 28
Actual Age 28
Gender Male

Hair: black; long at his waist
Eye color: brilliant gold; like the sun itself
Skin tone and features: slightly tanned, with a pointy face. He isn't overly built nor stick-slender, but well-toned enough for combat.
General Physical Appearance: Akihiko's appearance is quite young, he looks around the figures of 25 or 28. He appears learned and controlled, always smiling softly. He dons the legendary red armor that Darkness granted the Samurai and likes it very much, sans the helmet. He insists the helmet weighs his head down and interferes with his train of thought, when really, he just doesn't like covering up his hair. Secretly, Akihiko is fond of his hair and the lengthy silkiness of it. He looks something like this with a helmet like this but he never really wears it.

PSYCHE
Personality:
TRANQUIL (+) - "Ah, you really shouldn't be so irascible with needless concerns. It's not a healthy habit."
Akihiko is a studious man who prefers to be called a scholar over a warrior. His tranquil demeanor isn't merely a persona, he refuses to draw his blade unless someone he holds close is taken hostage first, or he feels that something else important to him is being threatened. However, it is an ordeal to make Akihiko fight, be it in sword or wit. He prefers cheerful conference over even a friendly brawl because he believes that fighting for no reason is foolish, and fighting to get stronger should only be exercised in the time of necessity. Akihiko, however, takes pride in being a samurai and the responsibilities of one. Bushido supports his personality in the sense that it prefers pacification over aggression and grants him a reason to draw his blade.

OVERLY SELF-SACRIFICING (-) / HELPFUL (+) / RECKLESS (-) - "Reserve no fear in your heart, for I will ensure your life's security."
Akihiko is overly self-sacrificing, even for a samurai. If there is someone in need, he figures that it is his responsibility to ease their troubles--even if it means his life in return. He is persistent that he is more calculating than reckless in context, though the truth is quite the opposite. It doesn't bother him if his sacrifices aren't acknowledged so long as the person is delivered from their dilemma. He doesn't help others because he wants their thanks, but because of his own karma. Akihiko's greatest fear is regretting not doing something when he had the potential to because it steals sleep from him at night. Akihiko doesn't consider himself a kind person, but he does have karma and knows right from wrong. He also harbors a hate for irresponsible people and doesn't want to be grouped with their foolishness.

CURIOUS (+/-) - "Haaa? Is that true? How very interesting, though I'm sure that knowledge is recent to yourself as well. Now let me tell you something in return..."
As a scholar, Akihiko is genuinely curious about the world around him, and feels there is much to learn from everyone. A wise man once said, "In every three men, one has potential to be a mentor", and it is this philosophy that drives him to be social. Because he believes that anyone could be a mentor to him, Akihiko is generally reverent of most people, if not, tolerant of them. Just as he enjoys learning, he also enjoys teaching. Akihiko can be quite the interloper who harps on the mistakes of others. Because he feels that others taught him so many lessons, he is indebted to the world in this circumstance and that returning the favor is necessary, even if his "student" doesn't seem appreciative of it.

EASILY AMUSED (+/-) - "I am most impressed by your poisonous slander. I did not imagine someone like you capable of it, pray teach me sometime? Or are you going to insult me more? Keheheh! Youngsters."
Despite his aloof mien, Akhiko takes what others say quite seriously. He does, however, become amused easily--especially by those who threaten him; whether he replies seriously or in cajolement varies to his liking. Akihiko finds people generally charming, be it City People or Book Children, but on the exterior, he enjoys acting as if everyone is a child and he is the only adult. In fact, one of Akihiko's favorite hobbies is getting drunk and messing with people under the guise of alcohol, he can actually hold his liquor, he secretly likes acting because it's very different from being a samurai. Akhiko's teasing does not root from egotism; he just enjoys foolish laughter, it's the only exempt foolishness that he allows himself indulgence.

Likes: learning, riddles, stories of tragic heroism, afternoon tea, cleanliness, alcohol (sake or whatever else is available), you probably
Dislikes: foolishness, un-productivity, undercompetent people, languor

Thoughts on the Forest: Akihiko finds the forest to be the greatest mystery of all, and perhaps the most jarring to him. He wouldn't visit it on his own, however. He harbors an interest for it because his birth originated from there, but the interest is still a limited one.

Thoughts of Book Children: Lovely! Akihiko enjoys the company of Book Children, even if the feeling isn't a mutual one. It isn't because they are his people, but because they're a source of learning and comfort. Though, he likes to learn their names and correlate them to their colorful appearances.

Thoughts on City People: Akihiko enjoys conversing with City People as much as he does with the Book Children. To him, they have just as much erudition, if not, more. In his opinion, the two aren't very much different sans their origins. Subconsciously, Akihiko is less of a joker in the presence of City People because they seem to take him very seriously.

Story: Sebontaiyou no Dojo (The Castle of a Thousand Floors)
Favorite type of Ending: "My favorite ending? Hn..., surely where the hero wins but gives in to death because of a handicap or his nobleness.Tragic heroism is so beautiful to me."

Favorite Illustration:

"Ameterasu's robes are still the most vibrant of them all! I hope to find a book child just as iridescent as herself someday."

Dreams: "Why would I dream if every moment is wonderful in itself? As long as the present is a content one, the future's maladies are of no concerning to me."

T H EOO R I G I NOO FO T H EO S U NOS A M U R A I

Akihiko was born from the void of the Paper Forest, and he understand this well. From birth, he could recall the six lessons that the scholar in his story learned; they were the first tools he utilized to navigate the City and meet acquaintances without trouble (once the City People became visible to him, of course). He doesn't call to mind much of what his "birth" was like, nor does he remember the Forest's guards that shepherded him towards the city. Truthfully, his origin is an enigma to him; he named himself after the author of his story because he lacked the creativity to create one himself. Akihiko does, however, strangely recall his first visit to the city's lower layer which he is the fondest of. Akihiko is intrigued at how agriculture develops there, and vexed at how even the City People themselves didn't understand the functions of their City either. Akihiko remained in the City's lower layer for awhile before he moved on to explore the rest.

SEBONTAIYOUONOODOJO
THE CASTLE OF A THOUSAND SUNS

By Akihiko Nodame (Pistolsys)

Long ago, the Sun Children lived in peace and happiness in a castle of one-thousand floors. The castle was so tall that its roof kissed heaven, and there a beautiful temple was built The Sun Children sang and danced in the temple in honor of the sun goddess, Ameterasu, who blessed them so with gifts of sunrise and harvest. For many long years all was good, and the Sun Children were happy. However, one summer the sun goddesss grew sick and could bring no sunrise nor health to the land. Life around the castle waned, and Darkness swallowed the earth.

The Sun Children were very afraid. They did not know how to defend themselves, for they were not accustomed to hostility. Demons that dared not exhibit malice during Ameterasu's reign now seeped into the castle's one thousand floors. As they ascended the levels of the castle, the Sun Children fled to the castle's rooftop--all of them but one man, who was very weak and sick; he could not climb the castle's floors. When the demons saw him, they laughed and ridiculed his ill health and lack of meat. They decided not to eat him, but assured him that they would kill him.

"Please, good demons, before you reap my life, may I be allowed a courteous conference with your leader?" the scholar asked politely. "I am sick and weak, and I may never see an infernal being in my life greater than yourselves. I had hoped to see the true face of all evil, but in my poor health, it seems that I cannot journey for it."

The demons pondered this, then agreed, for the scholar was not far from death--and their leader was well aware of it, also.

The floor grew dark, and the scholar could only see brooding blackness. A voice boomed from the void, and the scholar felt very afraid.

"I AM KUROYAMI, THE DARKNESS. YOU WISH TO SEE ME, HUMAN?"

The scholar masked his fear, and summoned his courage: "Yes, Kuroyami, I wish to learn a final lesson before my passing; I am sick and weak, and death is impeding."

Kuroyami gave a shadowy laugh and humored, "BUT WHY? SURELY I GAIN NO BENEFIT IN THIS REQUEST."

The scholar calmly replied, "Of course I will teach the Darkness all I know in return. I could not cheat Kuroyami, the Darkness, for death is already upon me."

Kuroyami thought for a moment and decided this was true. He agreed, and the scholar smiled before continuing.

"Our lesson will require three scrolls and a brush with ink," the scholar offered, and from his robes, he revealed three silk scrolls and a brush.

On the first scroll, the scholar wrote " 勇気". Bravery.

"Kuroyami, is it true that bravery can deflect even the sharpest weapon?" the scholar asked.

"FOOLISH!" Darkness barked. "ARMOR IS THE BEST PROTECTION."

The scholar looked troubled. "But I do not know what armor is or looks like."

Frustrated, Darkness roared, and the scholar was clad in the layered armor of hellion design, and the scholar understood. On the second scroll, the scholar wrote "念力". Willpower.

"Kuroyami, is it true that willpower can pierce through the strongest man's heart?"

"FOOLISH!" Darkness barked. "A KATANA IS THE BEST WEAPON."

The scholar looked troubled. "But I do not know what a katana is or looks like."

Frustrated, Darkness roared, and at the scholar's hip was a blade sharper than the crescent moon, and the scholar understood. On the third scroll, the scholar wrote "騎士道". Chivalry.

"Kuroyami, is it true that chivalry can humble even a nemesis in defeat?" asked the scholar.

"FOOLISH!" Darkness barked. "POWER MAKES ALL TREMBLE IN DEFEAT!"

The scholar looked troubled. "What is power? I have never heard of it."

Frustrated, Darkness roared, and the scholar felt his body become strong and his heart filled with a vitalizing fire. The scholar understood.

Furious, Darkness thundered, "FOOLISH! HOW CAN YOU, TEACH ME ANYTHING IF YOU BARELY KNOW ANYTHING YOURSELF?"

The scholar looked bewildered. "Why, Darkness, what is it you would like to learn?"

Darkness answered, "OF COURSE, THE ULTIMATE LESSON THAT EVERY MAN MUST LEARN!"

The scholar stood tall and unsheathed his katana. "I have not learned it," the scholar admitted. "It is not yet my time."

In anger, Darkness struck the scholar with its claws, but the scholar was impervious to his blows.

"The first lesson, Kuroyami, is bravery," the scholar said, closing his eyes and releasing a soft breath. The scholar then rushed towards Darkness with his katana unsheathed in a flurry of slashes so quick that Darkness himself flee higher and higher up the castle's one thousand floors until he could run no further. The night's cloak could not protect Darkness from the scholar.

"The second lesson, Kuroyami, is willpower," the scholar said. The Sun People saw that Darkness was very afraid, and his demons dispelled.

"I will not kill you, Darkness, for the third lesson is chivalry," the scholar said, "You have taught me three important lessons yourself, and I am indebted to you."

Darkness, confounded, could not speak.

"It appears that my final lesson is here for me to learn," the scholar said sadly, and presented the three scrolls he'd written earlier. "These are my final lessons to the Sun Children."

Darkness nodded his monstrous head, and answered, "Do as you see fit. Keep my lessons as well, for I will return in the future to avenge my pride."

The scholar smiled, and shook his head. "I am sorry, Kuroyami, but it is time for me to learn the ultimate lesson."

With those very words, the scholar succumbed to Death, but the Sun Children were no longer afraid. They had six lessons; three from the scholar, and three from Darkness. Every day, for one thousand suns, the Darkness returned to the castle to fight the Sun People, but he saw that he could not defeat them and his body only weakened.

In the one thousandth battle, the Darkness finally learned the ultimate lesson like the scholar before him, and departed.

The Sun Children were powerful now, and by then had forgotten their peaceful life before the coming of the demons. However, they did not forget their savior's sacrifice, and took on his name.

The Samurai protected the castle of one thousand floors for many suns, and when Ameterasu was well again, peace was finally restored to the land.

Ahaha, a Japanese samurai wondering down a western looking settlement. This could get interesting ^___^

So I realized that you mentioned he can hold liquor and likes to pretend he got drunk, but liquor isn't under his likes. Does that mean that he's indifferent for the liquor itself? Also, could/would there ever be a circumstance where he's actually drunk?

YAY I GOT APPROVED WOOHOO * U*

Ah, hi Tear!
Yeah, you have a a point, I should add that to his likes. Nope, I don't think he's ever gotten drunk before, I think he's just sort of more fun that way; yes, I think he's pretty indifferent to the liquor itself. xDD
