I was just wondering if baking was counted as art because pastry chefs, cough cough, put a lot of time and design into cakes and stuff like painters do into their paintings.

I'm about to start high school but i know that i'm most likely going to be a pastry chef. :p

Yes I think it should be considered art. Pastry chefs put a lot of work into their creations. Art is considered to be something that inspires people right? Well if you are inspired by a cake then yes it's art.

Cooking in general can be an art form for sure. It depends on the attitude behind the person doing it. Just like painting has forms that have more practical uses (painting a house, etc). :'D
But just saying pastry is art seems demeaning to the rest of cooking. If you've ever seen a single cooking show/competition on television, then you know how much goes into plate design, placement of food, etc.

Definitely an art. I would say that anything you create is art, but that's my opinion.

yes yes yes it truly is!!!!!!
And think about it cupcake wars, Ace of cakes, Sugar Competions, Making Chocolate into Dresses, baking teddy bear shaped loaves of bread, etc ect............................................this could have gone on infinitly lol
