“Let’s go to the land of the sand, she says. I want to go there, it’s just past the mountains she says. I’ve never been there.” Ammon’nen was arguing really with himself, but he was speaking loud enough for Aagiro to hear him. He was growling, not caring the sun was still fully in the sky shining down on both of their darkened pelts. It was more pissed off at the fact of the whole INCIDENT that had happened just this morning. Of course, out of all the lands of sand they had to enter, it HAD to be the firekin lands. The land of the brute lions of fire pelt. Ammon’nen wasn’t a fighter, he was actually far from it. In the ghost pride, he was a nanny---he took care of the children. There was no fighahting whatsoever in his rulebook. That probably was another reason why he was so irate. On his stomach were scratch marks. They were bleeding uncontrollably, but they still stung nonetheless. The grains of the sand etching themselves into the wound was not helping that feeling either.
“Are you happy? Did you enjoy the sands as much as I did?” he was very sarcastic as his gray eyes turned towards her in an accusing manner. Sure the both of them had gotten into this mess in the first place, but it was HER idea. SHE made him. There was a man’s mentality for you; Always blaming the woman. “Heh, here’s a thought, next time I PICKED the destination. Okay? Sound like a plan.” Huff.

Aagiro's ears were pressed back against her skull, she looked both very pissed off and slightly in pain. Surprisingly she hadn't opened her mouth once, even though Nen had been bitching for the last ten minutes or so. She was sore, scared, tired and embarrassed even though she argued with herself that there was no way she should feel embarrassed for what had happened. It wasn't her fault. She shouldn't feel guilty! Maybe if someone hadn't been making so much noise. Right. Nen had been, hadn't he? Her tail lashed behind her and she dragged her paws behind Nen. Just far enough back to hear every little snitty comment the a** spit out, and each word just added to her anger. Of course, this was probably mostly due to the fact that Nen didn't exactly complain. Or hadn't. He just joked... as annoying as those jokes were, it seemed like a much better option to this whole blame game thing he had going on. Wasn't that her job?
And even though they'd clearly gotten away from the firekin Nen wouldn't slow down or stop. Aagiro was sure the cuts on her face needed to be cleaned... oh gods what if they scarred? And her hind leg was killing her. The only reason she wasn't whimpering about it was from the sheer anger bubbling in her stomach, making her feel sick.
Did he really just ask that? He seriously decided to be sarcastic about that? Did she freaking enjoy it? She snarled and finally stopped. "Oh yeah, tons of fun. Can't wait to go back, think they'll ask our names before attacking this time?" Her words were bitter, upset and slightly hurt. "Next time? Next time?" She laughed at this, no mirth was found in it though. "YOU'RE THE ONE WHO BROUGHT US THERE!" She was yelling. Boy was she yelling. Hopefully those firekin weren't following them, because her loud voice would have been a sure give away.
No way was she being blamed for this! He was at fault here, she'd never said she wanted to go to the firekin lands! He'd said there were two desert prides or something! So what if she'd mentioned the mountains. So what if she was a little curious about the fabled, blood thirsty beasts. So what?

“I’m the one who brought us out there?!” He wasn’t yelling exactly, but his voice was raised than what it usually tone was. “You’re the one who wanted to go to the ‘land of sand’. And last I checked, you’re the one who asked that lion…” whatever the colorful lion was name, Nen didn’t remember…he was too angry too, “for directions.” The starry pelted lion was trying to put all the blame on Aagiro, just like she was doing to him.
Although they were quite a distance from where the attack took place, Ammon’nen’s ears pinned down, but flicked occasionally listening for any sounds of approaching lions. “Keep your voice down!” He hissed. He did not want her shrill tone to attract the firekin again, or ANY other lions for that matter. “Or do you just want them to find us again. I’m sure this time they would both go for the kill.” Well, the female probably would, he wasn’t too sure of the male. He just did want to see them again, regardless.
“Was that not the land of sand you wanted to visit? Well I do apologize Kitten, but you are the one that said that you wanted to go to the place beyond the mountain.” Could sarcasm drip anymore off Nen’s words? The second desert pride he knew of resided further down south past the mountain range, almost near the shore of the large waters.

This had all been a terrible, horrifying... miserable idea from the beginning. The gods hated her, she knew it. They must have, to have her get thrown into the miserable trip with the miserable male and arrrggg she didn't want to be the only one wrong here! She wracked her brain to counter his words, but what he was saying was true. She bared her teeth at him, and would have done more if she could have just come up with some more hurtful words. As it was he was just... pointing out really good reasons why this all was her fault. "Tropiki'baa? Is that who you're referring to princess?" She hissed out, the colorful lion's name jumping into Aagiro's thoughts much quicker, due to the fact that she'd actually gotten on pretty well with the male. Plus she remembered how testy Nen had been that day, and she just figured something about Tropik had bugged the hell out of him and she wanted to remind him of it as best she could.
Her claws flexed in the soft sirt and sand as he snapped at her to keep her voice down and she just laughed. "Like hell I will!" She yelled, this time louder. "I'd bloody love to be killed right now! It's the top of my mental list of 'things to do'.. wait... no. I believe the first one is getting the hell away from you." Fine, if it had to be her fault at least she could be the one to dismiss him. Ah but why did it make her feel sick to her stomach? She began to stalk past him, seemed to hesitate when she was passed and then turned around. "Right, I think I owe you this." And she wasn't sure what had come over her or even why she thought it was okay to attack Nen so soon after their run-in with the firekin but her blood felt as though it were literally boiling.
So she lunged at him, though she wasn't really thinking about consequences. She definitely was not prepared to feel him stumble back, and no way could she have ever imagined that in tackling him the sudden loss of balance and the harsh pull of gravity would be tthis sudden. She yowled as she suddenly went tumbling, claws digging into poor Nen in almost reflex than in trying to cause him pain, as was her goal only seconds before.
Not only had she gotten them involved with the two firekin brats and wouldn't own up to her mistake... she'd also sent them flying down one of the taller sand dunes they'd climbed that day. Wonderful.

Was that his name? Tropiki’baa? Well whatever it was, it didn’t matter. The starry male didn’t care for him, so why should he remember his name? His gray eyes did narrow as Aagiro spoke of his name though. It was like him telling her not to mention that name again, but those words never were expressed out loud. As her teeth were bared, Ammon’nen just rolled his eyes. “Now, now Kitten,” he sneered out. “Just accept the fact that it was your fault.” He pushed and pushed, soon Aagiro would flip. And she did.
“I’d like to try to see you get a paw on me.” His angry tone was diminishing. Now it held an amused tone. He had been traveling with this female for a while now, he knew how she would act. She would say things, but never act upon them. That is why, when the female had lunged at him, Ammon’nen wasn’t prepared for it whatsoever. The lioness had acted. As soon as she hit him, he had stepped backwards, not realizing where they had stopped was a sand dune. The ground underneath him gave way due to it’s softness, and both felines tumbled in a downward spiral. He could feel her claws sinking into his flesh in order to stay together in the tumble. Of course, this didn’t help the already stinging pain from the previous firekin fight.
He grunted as the grains of sand scratched at his back. For something normally so soft was a b***h when you went against it! His eyes closed as their swirling down the hill was coming to an end. He was dizzy. When he opened his eyes, he was above Aagiro. He was looking right into her eyes. There was a much different expression he was giving the female unlike he had given her before. Something much softer, as if he was seeing his traveling companion in a new light.
“…So uhm…” all the hostility his voice previously had was gone.
“…I…guess I won the bet….”

She thought that if she'd had the ability to throw up she probably would have by now. All of her body hurt by the time they suddenly thumped to a stop and by then her eyes were shut tight and her body pressed close to Nen's, she was shaking slightly. Who knew you could roll down a dune that swiftly? It took at least ten times as long to walk up it. Her chest rose and fell in swift succession as it took a moment for her to realize the world had finally come to a stop. It took her another moment to open her eyes and slowly stretch her head back, dark gaze flickering over the area they'd rolled to a stop in. It was... a much more welcome sight than the endless desert. It seemed they'd finally his an area at least dotted with some green here and there. The sun was finally sinking, and it could only make her hope that Nen would be in a better mood because she'd instantly regretted lunging at him. Even though she probably shouldn't have because he probably deserved it.
She swallowed as her gaze flickered over a few of the glow-flies she liked to watch so much. They always twinkled like the stars come down from the sky to play. She drew her eyes back to Nen finally, right as he opened his own, much lighter gaze. She'd retracted her claws, but her paws still lay against him. She was still slightly dizzy and just fully caught off from the tumble down the hill, so before she could just swallow her pride and apologize and then shove him off so she could leave... well... her words seemed to stick to her throat and refused to move past her maw. So there she lay with Nen on top of her and insanely close, their gazes glued together. Gods above, why was he looking at her like that? She felt shivers down her spine and butterflies in her stomach all at once, and surely she must have looked embarrassed. She did not like looking embarrassed, not one bit.
She cleared her throat finally, but he spoke first. He... he wasn't mad any longer? How long had they been laying there? It seemed both like it had been days, weeks, years and at the same time as if it was just minutes, mere seconds and she regretted that he broke what seemed to her to be an almost magical silence, and she wished that the time would stretch out even longer. She could feel her breathing picking up slightly, as though the excitement of his next words was getting to her.
And then he went and said that. Her eyes must have widened slightly, and then she probably looked the most embarrassed she ever would in her entire life. "T-the bet?" Damn why wasn't her voice steady? And was he... was he just bringing that up because... wait, was that all this was? Stupid, stupid Aagiro! She must have lost half her brain tumbling down that dune. Surely it had fallen right out of her ears... of course this was just about the bet! Oh she needed to get away from him, needed to stop feeling hints of attraction to the lumbering moron. "Right! The bet." She said, this time more firmly but the words were repeated too long after she'd first spoken them and they'd wavered. What was she supposed to reply to that? Right, now let's get down to cub making! I so owe you some! And why did it suddenly hurt so much? "Well... I guess... yes, Iguessyoudid." She hadn't wanted to say it, not at all. She swore she would claw his eyes out if he mentioned the damn wager. Or maybe actually start crying, and she definitely wouldn't cry in front of him. She did not like feeling this foolish, not one bit!
She finally looked fully away from him, gaze now glued to a few of the bugs who so much resembled the stars. She gave him a tiny little push. "Can you get off of me now?" She whispered, her words barely audible to herself. Oh gods, why was she so emotional lately? If she didn't know better she would have thought herself pregnant already. Hah, but that was impossible.

Ammon’nen was glad as the light of day slowly began to wane, the darkness creeping onto the sands. Today had just been one of those days where you just want it to end, and never speak of it again. Of course, he was the dunderhead that decided to break a certain silence with an equally stupid observation. He didn’t know why he said it. He didn’t truly like this girl enough to even think about having a cubs with her…did he? Oh, Nen was so confused. He broke the stare as a flicker of light flashed by his eyes. Fireflies? It was a weird place for the lightning bugs to be at, but then again, Nen never really knew about the desert, so maybe they just enjoyed being by the sand. Weren’t fireflies some sort of omen anyways? The lion gulped, his gaze shifting back towards Aagiro. Maybe he was imagining things, but it appeared the fireflies were floating just by her head, illuminating her eyes. If she didn’t look embarrassed, most likely Ammon’nen did. He listened as she spoke. She too appeared a little dumbfounded about his comment. Way to go, Nen. How to lose a girl in twenty seconds. Wait…Aagiro was not his girl! Ergh! What was he thinking?
Did she just…agree that he won? No…no argument? No…derogatory comments? Just a…agreement? A breath hitched in his throat. This…was not the reaction he expected for her to give. She was suppose to keep yelling at him! Suppose to call him Princess and tell him he was DREAMING if he thought she was going to be the female who bore his cubs. But no. She AGREED.
Her last words appeared to go in one ear and out the other. He was still flabbergasted by her comment. Nen just stared at her, trying to find the reasoning behind what she said in her eyes. This wasn’t the Kitten he knew. This wasn’t the Aagiro he knew. Oh lordy, look what he had gotten himself into.
The little push from her had brought his attention back from lala land. “Oh! Err…sorry.” He still hadn’t moved. The voice inside his head was screaming at him, JUST GET OFF HER, but no budge. Finally, he shakily moved to the side, no longer on top of the female. He sat next to her, almost shrunken down in embarrassment. “Umm…We should…er…go. Those lions are…probably still after us…”

Why wasn't he getting off? She both wanted him to get off of her very much but at the same time almost liked the presence of his weight slightly on her, the warmth of his body and his... well less than soft fur since it was now full of sand. She imagined it would be very soft otherwise, then cursed herself for imaging that at all. He seemed almost like he was in shock a little... crap... oh crap! Why had she just agreed like that? She had not wanted to admit he'd won, not in the least... in fact as far as she was concerned he hadn't! Was it too late to take back her words? Well, of course. They'd already sprouted from her maw. She felt confused, and her mind felt sluggish. She felt a number of things she wasn't used to feeling, and she couldn't sort out what was good or bad.
She wondered if she should shove him again. But just as she was thinking to he seemed to snap out of whatever funk he was in, apologizing. She lay on her back a moment more, staring up at nothing. What the hell had just happened? She shifted and suddenly rolled over, uneasily getting to all four paws when he mentioned that the lions were probably still after them. It was a hallow excuse even to her ears, they would have caught up by now, probably. Still, she was thankful for it anyways and cleared her throat, not able to look over at Nen. "Right..." Her tongue felt thick and clumsy in her maw and she couldn't bare to say anything else, already knowing how much of a fool she'd looked.
She began to move away, not glancing back. She almost did right as she passed him, but her eyes snapped back to where she was going before they'd ever come upon his form. "M..maybe there's a pride nearby." Or another lion. A friendly lion. Oh gods, she didn't want to be alone with him. Now for all new reasons, most of which she would not admit to herself.
Well. This was awkward, wasn't it?

A pride? Oh yes! A pride. Full of nice lions to hang out with, regardless if they were male or female. It just meant that he would not have to be…well, he didn’t want to say alone with her, but more so he didn’t want the tension that now hung greatly in the air to still be around. Right now, it was weighing quite heavily on the male to the point where he just couldn’t speak. He quickly nodded, finally uttering a few words before falling silent once more. “Right…umm, this way.” It was all he said. He jumped to his feet, moving swiftly away from Aagiro as he led the way south to the dawnwalkers. Oh, how he hoped they would meet another lion like Laana or even Tropiki-baa…anyone?

He snapped up just as quickly as she had, and even went so far as to move ahead of her so he could lead. She almost snapped at that, but her nerves felt raw and shaky, so she kept her mouth shut. No telling what was liable to happen if another argument sparked and then ended even... weirder than the one that had just happened. But now she'd have to watch him the whole time... Oh what was wrong with her! She wasn't some adolescent fresh away from her mother, she knew a thing or two about the world they lived in. Hell, she knew the feelings that had sparked up inside of her, but she did not want to admit them to herself. She knew they'd been growing, bit by bit... oh this was terrible!
She stayed silent, not knowing if he was leading them to an actual pride or just... in a random direction. Maybe she could just veer off and go her own way! Yes, that would be lovely. But no, her paws would not stray from the path he was setting and her heart bid her to stay following after the starry pelted male.
Sometimes life was not fair... and she couldn't help but feel her life was one cruel joke after another. END
