Super Sailor Chaonis had found a good target. A youma that was strong, but obviously not strong enough. Something he could have fun fighting and practicing on, a bit of his own training without the obligation and drag of actually admitting to doing it, without the risk of actually losing.
Chaonis did not lose to youma. He did not like to and did not let it happen. Damn it.
The youma, which was deceptively cute in its form, looking like a rabbit faced kangaroo of sorts, was fighting him like a boxer. It jabbed and kicked, bounced and even tried to headbutt. It was a fun fight, but Chaonis was just messing with it at this point. The buildings around them looked rattled and broken. A large cracked was opened in the earth, broken glass and chunks of walls all around. A lamp post had been felled.
Chaonis was standing over the youma, holding its fairly limp form by one hand and pulling the other back to punch it one last time. Put it out of its misery, after it had out lived its use and no longer offered the kind of fight Chaonis wanted or could find useful.

The chibi senshi of sleep had enjoyed camp for the most part, but she was happy to be back in the city. She couldn't help but find herself roaming the streets and soon the energy signals that were ticking inside of the ticker. They were always interesting, and always proved interesting results. They fed a curiosity that was often unsettled, bringing the child new experiences day in, and night out.
This night was no different but instead she had caught the tail end of the fight that was going on between a youma and an unknown senshi, her eyes not believing what she was seeing. How could a senshi do such things to something that wasn't even fighting back (at this point, no longer even able to offer a fight). She gasped, and tightened her arms around her bunny plush that perpetually followed her about as she ran to the male senshi. The devil in disguise was after him, quickly leaping to try and grab onto the male.
"No!"

The voice brought Chaonis out of his little world, a small place that was mostly violent and fast. It was a nice place to visit if one liked those kinds of things, but difficult to imagine anyone living in. Which, of course, Chaonis did. Violence was fun, and destroying youma topped that list since there was absolutely no urge, conscious or otherwise, to hold back against them.
They were just punching bags.
Tiny senshi, however, were not and when she leaped at him, he looked at her in surprise and dropped his hold on the youma. He reached to grab the back of her fuku and pull her away from him.
"What are you doing, kid? You're going to get yourself punched in the face if you jump in fights like that! What are you trying to do, defend the youma?" He spoke like he thought that was the dumbest thing he had ever heard, or rather thought of, and of course it was. At least in that moment he couldn't think of anything worse.
He shook his head.
"What's your problem, pipsqueak?"

What was her problem? What was HER problem? The child's brow furrowed and her face scrunched up until a very large pout appeared on her lips. How could he asked her that! It was obvious, was it? He was the one picking on the little, helpless animal! Her hands squeezed around him and a small whine came out of her as she shook her head.
"You're being a bully! You're hurting it!"

Chaonis watched as the young senshi pouted at him. It wasn't something he was unused to: he often upset small children. With his charming personality and care to make sure all kids were happy all the time, he had to wonder why.
Or not. He had neither of those things, was very aware of it, and didn't care much about kids regardless.
There was a difference, though, for Senshi ones. They were helpless and they were too young to know what the hell they were doing. They needed more help than most newbies did, even the really terrible ones. Kids had no business being on the battlefield, but since he couldn't change that he could at least toughen them up a bit.
He watched her as she clung to him.
"It's a youma, kid, you have to hurt it. They're bad guys. They hurt people. You rather I let it go on its merry way and it goes and attacks your parents?"
There was that child friendly tact again.

His reasoning didn't work with this child, her face looking between him and the youma with anxiety. He had no issues with hurting it, and what did that make him? A monster that he was so driven to destroy? Sailor Chibi Hypnos couldn't forget that time she'd heard the youma cry out in pain from when she'd hurt it. They felt pain too, and this youma hadn't been doing anything! How could you properly judge it based on what other youma had done? She shook her head at him. Hurting them didn't make you any better!
"But they can feel pain too!" She whined, tugging on his arm with all her might, clinging to him like a wet towel.
Then he threw the parent card and her body tensed for a moment. Did he win? Was she going to admit defeat? No. She shook her head again, body relaxing to a tight grip on his arm again as she looked between the youma and senshi once again. If it went on its merry way it certainly couldn't attack her parents when they weren't in this state, let alone this city.
"They're not even in this state," she admitted.

Chaonis watched her. What were they teaching at Chibi Senshi School? How to be the complete opposite of an effective grown up senshi?
"They don't feel pain. They're not real: they're made of dust. They are literally walking corrupt... ness." Words weren't his forte, so explaining it was going to be difficult for him. But he wasn't trying to justify himself, so it worked out for him.
He was not going to shake her. She had the grip of an octopus.
"Well, what if it went and attacked your friends parents? Or your friends? The thing about youma is they are not thinkers. They don't care what they do, as long as they are getting the energy or starseeds they want. They're not going to stop and think 'oh that's a little kid, better not hit it' like I'm doing right now."
He tried to shake her free of his arm. Then turned his attention to the youma. He opted to crush it, and since it was so weak it just burst into dust when he used his strength on it. It seemed he wasn't going to allow her to save it.

"They do feel pain! They can feel emotion, I know it!" She was very insistent about this fact, remember the snow dancer Gwenliana quite well. Gwenliana wasn't human, but she wasn't an animal that was otherwise found on Earth. She was something that would have been considered a monster, if not a youma, just like a youma. She had strange abilities of cold and snow, and then the not-so-strange abilities that even humans were familiar with: love, sadness, and pain.
She didn't get a chance to even argue his previous words when he had began to shake her free of his arm but she was stubborn and she continued to use her ocotpus grip on him, clinging tightly to him until he struck the youma and it fell into dust from his hand. It was like all the suction suddenly fell from her arms and she quite literally slipped off, falling to the ground. She was quick, and she scurried to the dust that was laying on the ground, her hands picking it up longingly. It was a moment when the youma didn't try and eat her, or chase her and she'd never felt so sad. She turned to look at him, but half way there she turned back to look at the dust on the ground.
"Why..." she whispered. "It was still innocent... It hadn't attacked anyone... It wasn't hurting anyone..."

Chaonis shook his head, watching her.
He had met Chibi senshi before, and his opinion on them was mixed. He felt they were capable of being trained and learning how to be good senshi. But he wasn't sure he liked that they were so young, and that they could be so innocent. It was up to someone to show them how things really were, though, and like with the Chibi senshi before her, Chaonis wasn't going to pull his punches too much with Hypnos.
Maybe change his usual tactics, but he was going to stick to his guns.
"it doesn't matter if they feel pain or not," he said, his tone matter of fact and lacking that gentle understanding most people used with kids or with people they didn't want to upset. He treated her like someone his own age, in his way, minus the pushing and teasing.
He watched her as she touched the lingering dust not carried off by the wind, his eyes keen but clouded with something like thought or memory.
"It wasn't innocent. They're never innocent. They're made to hurt people. If you let someone go, then you're letting all your friends, all the people and animals you might care about, be in danger. It's our job to dust these things, kid. You can't feel bad for them. They don't feel bad for you."

"But how do you know? Do you know it? How can you say that?" She paused at her questions, however endless, before continuing. "You're not even giving them a chance! What if they think the same of you, it could be a useless, endless fight!"
Not everyone was the same, and even if something was different than you it didn't mean you should kill it! You shouldn't hate it, and you shouldn't stop trying to help. Her thoughts were filled with these thoughts while her hands were clinging tightly to the dust that was on the ground, direly hoping that the youma would not disappear into the wind, even hoping it might possibly come back. She wanted to apologize for not being able to save it.
"I'm sorry," she whispered to the pile disappearing from her fingers.
She finally turned to Chaonis, hands folded over her lap with her eyes staring at him.
"Just because someone doesn't treat me nicely, it doesn't mean I should treat them badly. I should treat them the way I want to be treated!" It was a simple rule, one every child was told to follow.

Chaonis frowned at her.
"How do I know it? Because I know! Because I've been fighting these things since... a long a** time ago. That's all they're good for. Getting destroyed by us, or hurting people. That's it, kid. I know that sometimes they could look like animals or whatever, but they're made of nothing but... you know. Evil."
He shook his head, not sure he was a very good teacher for this kind of stuff, but she seemed to have no idea what the rules of the game were out here. That was unacceptable. He hated kids, but he didn't want them getting themselves killed just because they had somehow managed to become senshi.
He had trained them before, and he would train this one before she got herself eaten.
"Look, that works fine for people. The whole... be nice thing. That's fine, if that's your s**t then you do it, right? But these aren't people. They aren't animals. They have no thoughts, no feelings, okay? All they are here for is to eat energy or starseeds, and that means real people, the ones you want to be nice to? They die. The only way to protect them, and yourself, is to destroy these monsters."
He shook his head, arms folded over his chest.
"You've never killed on? Never gotten into a fight? How can you just walk around with that attitude, when things are so... I dunno. Dangerous."

"But how do you know it? In the long time you've fought them, have you ever given them a chance?"
The child knew the answer to that question already and she didn't wait for an answer. No one ever gave them a chance and every day that was becoming more clear than ever. If Gwenliana had ever met this male senshi, she would have never breathed an icy breath toward Ainsley after that graceful dance from the sky. Sailor Chibi Hypnos knew that the youma could hurt people, often being the victim of the attacks herself, but so could senshi. Senshi were so much more powerful, and they knew what they were doing. How did that make youma worse? She didn't want to believe she was better than them, that they deserved to be "dusted" as everyone liked to call it.
"I will find a way that everyone can live together," she said stubbornly. "I will. Watch me!"
With that she stood up, getting right into his face. Well, at close to his face as a ten year old could get to an eighteen year old. She stared up at him, studying this man carefully. His arms were crossed, his face was stern, and he just wasn't very princely. Perhaps more of a knight that had lost what he sought to protect and was now just a sword that hurt. She frowned a bit at it, thinking about the youma she had in fact killed.
"Death isn't something to be celebrated," she whispered. "Not a death in this world."
She turned her heel on him, floppy ears flailing about with each step further away from the male senshi. She had to think of something useful she could do, a way to stop the youma without hurting them. It may have seemed absolutely ridiculous to everyone but it was so important to the child. She didn't want to see anyone get hurt. Not a civilian, senshi, Negaverse soldier, or even a youma. It would be hard when all sides were so determined to fight the other, evil side.

Chaonis stared at her. Give a youma a chance? They were creatures made entirely of chaos and dust. He might have had the word chaos in his name, but that did not make him a friend of it. He was not going to talk to a youma and see how it was feeling that day.
He knew, without the shadow of a doubt that might haunt a 'nicer' senshi, that youma were soulless, evil creatures. Their purpose was to hurt, and to be destroyed. Chaonis was more than glad to do the destroying. it wasn't even about saving people, not really.
Youma were the perfect punching bag.
"You're s**t out of luck, kid," Chaonis said, shaking his head and putting his hands on his hips. "You're going to get yourself killed thinking like that. It's nice to pretend we can all get along, but if human beings can't even stop killing each other, why should a monster created for that sole purpose want to play nice?"
He shook his head and snorted.
"If you're going to walk around powered up, you're going to need to grow up. You're a baby, I get that, but you're a senshi. You're going to hurt yourself or someone else, thinking like that. And I'll be damned if I just let you do it."
He took out his phone and got her information, staring at her.
"Look, if you can't handle a youma, you call someone who can. You might not believe me right now, but some time you're going to be in a ton of trouble."
