------------

When Claire was 9, she ran away from home. Her life was unfair and her siblings were being cruel. Her mother didn't have time for her anymore and her father (with many wives and even more children) only ever gave her a thought when he needed her to fetch him food.
Claire hated it.
So, she ran away from home.

It was day 1 of her escape. Claire had brought a portable rolling fridge, a bag full of clothes and a sleeping bag and she was ready to begin her life as a bum. Hell, she didn't need education! What good was that? A load of detentions and teachers telling you you were hopeless and should drop out didn't appeal to Claire at that time. She had her phone so she could still keep in touch with her limited amount of friends and play the little apps that she had. It was all she needed.
Nightfall.
Claire had suddenly become scared- halloweentown was incredibly scary at night and Claire had just realized it. She started to run to the nearest shelter which happened to be an old cottage with a creaky porch. From the outside you could see what appeared to be light from a television set- the light was inconsistent and Claire heard voices from inside. Oh good! She had what she needed: A cottage with a TV, a whole stack (or fridge, should I say) of food and a phone. Claire knocked on the door. No answer. She knocked again, now with a small "Hello...? Anyone in here? I need a place to stay... HELLO?" she pushed on the door to open it, and it did open. It was a television, and it was on, but the whole room seemed to be empty. Claire looked around the room before entering a small and mouldy old bathroom at the back which was also deserted. She walked back out and there was a note on the floor. It was incredibly dusty and seemed to be quite old, maybe a year or two.
Welcome to my cottage.
Yes- this is deserted. Feel free to make yourself at home. Please do not stay for more than three days as other travellers need to use my facilities too.
Thank you.

Claire grinned and set up her sleeping bag in front of the TV, grabbed a snack (being quite reasonable for once) and settled in. She thought about the life ahead of her. She'd get a job in a far-away place and eventually settle in to a rather fancy apartment or small house. She'd marry a modest man and have one child. It would be a female and her name would be Jessica Virus (second name can be changed depending on marriage decisions, of course!) her husband would be either a demon or a reaper. Maybe a ghost... It was all irrelevant now, though. She was 9 and she was taking on adult responsibilities. Like cleaning clothes and getting food! She stopped thinking about stuff when the news report came on.
"In other news, a demon family of quite high class have organized a search party for the missing glutton demon, Claire Virus, aged 9. The family is pleading for anyone with information of her disappearance to contact them immediately. They have also requested that even if you do not have information, having more people to help search for the missing ghoul would be greatly appreciated.

Now, to sports...

Claire was shocked. T-They wanted her back? Really? Claire was under the impression that they did not care at all whether she stayed or left. Claire felt... guilty, mad, confused, touched... All this emotion at one time was enough to make a nine year old explode! However, instead of exploding, Claire decided that she would go back the next day.
She turned off the television and attempted to get some sleep. All of the thoughts were still fresh in her head, and yet she managed to get to sleep quite easily.
Day arrived and Claire awoke.
She was still confused but she knew that it was time to go home- even after a day she was homesick, silly as it was. Claire loved her family. Her mother was polite and friendly and you just wanted to hug her all day, her siblings were... mean, but you could tell they loved Claire and her father was, um, her father. There had to be some love in there somewhere!
So, Claire found her way home. It was quite a long and complicated way, but it was a way. When she got there, her mother never neglected her again and her siblings apologized for the cruelty and her father... was her father.
Needless to say, when Claire grew up and became *cough* more mature, she had realized that running away from home was a bad idea and pretending to be deadly ill was a better solution to get attention.
