My favorite character is Alyx Vance because I hate going it alone in games like this. Having an NPC to keep me company is like having a security blanket. An unkillable security blanket with infinite bullets who tells me where to go and opens doors and stuff.
Second favorite: John Freeman. ;P
That one Vortigaunt who helps Alyx is pretty cool, too. Total runner up material.

Alyx isn't invincible, I've failed thanks to her before. xP
I find it pretty hard to pick a favourite, all the characters are awesome.

Hmmm,I would say Sheckly and Griggs.They're funny as hell.
Also Barney,he's pretty funny too.

I thought you said Alyx isn't invincible because you failed to thank her. Was a little confused there for a minute. Imagining you yelling at the computer, "Thank you, thank you, dammit, notice me thanking you!"
And Barney's cool. He's the one who gives you the crowbar, right?

Your AI companions (besides the resistance) have a lot of health, and it regenerates very fast, so yeah Alyx and Barney can die, but it's very unlikely.
